All members of the community are welcome to engage in free onsite healthcare services at Bel Park Towers on Friday, November 17, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

BALTIMORE, Nov. 6, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Ideal Option, a national leader in outpatient medication-assisted treatment for opioids, methamphetamine, alcohol and polysubstance, is partnering with Johns Hopkins Medicine, Park West Health System, Maryland Wellness and other organizations to host Testing for Turkeys, a community resource event for residents of Baltimore. NGD CEO Paul Rhodes Announces Professor Patricia Simner has Joined NGD’s Scientific Advisory Board

“NGD is deeply involved in developing machine learning methods to predict antibiotic resistance from WGS, and is now using those models to begin to discover novel mechanisms of resistance and susceptibility,” noted Paul A. Rhodes, Ph.D., NGD’s founder and CEO. “Trish’s interests and remarkable record of research into the complex genomic underpinnings of AMR will make our engagement together one of genuine mutual interest and benefit.”

NGD has developed some of the most accurate ML models for the determination of resistance in Gram negative bacteria from WGS, including resistance to the clinically important drug cefepime in E. coli, with accuracy higher than that of the in vitro methods that comprise the current standard of care as recently validated by Humphries et al in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology (1). NGD has also shown that WGS-based predictive ML models can be analyzed to identify mechanisms of resistance and susceptibility (2), indicating the ML results are driven by biologically causal regions of the genome, which fosters credibility needed for clinical use, and may provide guidance for the discovery of new inhibitors of resistance. “Dr. Simner’s work and interests fit well with this compelling research agenda,” Dr. Rhodes noted.

As sequence-based determination of resistance and susceptibility increasingly proves to be more accurate than the standard of care (3), with an appropriate quality framework, validation, and regulatory review and clearance, coupled with the low cost and automation of sequencing and bioinformatic analysis, WGS can increasingly be the basis for routine pathogen diagnostics.

Meniere’s Disease Institute Celebrates 25 Years of Successful Treatment Breakthrough

Geraldine Hesselsweet had been suffering from nonretractable debilitating Meniere’s disease for forty five years until November of 1998 when Michael T. Burcon, B.Ph., D.C., using his newly developed 10 Step Cervical Specific Protocol, adjusted her, ending her ear fullness, vertigo attack and nausea. When she woke up the next morning, her profound hearing loss and tinnitus were also gone.

Of his first 1,000 patients, followed from two to twenty years, 97% had their vertigo under control and 30% had their profound hearing loss restored.

Dr. Mike’s theory is that the main cause of Meniere’s disease is a whiplash/concussion injury that occurred an average of 15 years before the onset of the first symptom. This trauma creates a misalignment between the Occiput (head) and the Atlas (top cervical vertebra in the neck). This slows the CSF existing the skull which in turn, slows the blood flow through the vertebral artery to the affected ear. Burcon first published this hypothesis in 1999, but it was not proven until tested in Rome at the oldest teaching hospital in Europe in 2016, by doctors attending his presentation in 2015. Endolymphatic hydrops is a result of normal pressure hydrocephalus caused by cerebellar tonsillar ectopia, the result of whiplash.
