ArchWired.com logo

“Our readers wanted to keep current on that latest topics in orthodontics, and also requested an easy-to-use orthodontic glossary. I was happy to comply.” -Lynn Schneider

ArchWired.com has a fresh new look featuring updated, expanded information for adult orthodontic patients. Some of the new content includes articles about coping with jaw surgery, invisible aligner treatment, and an orthodontic glossary. In addition, there are many new opportunities for dentists, orthodontists, and dental companies to get their message out to orthodontic patients.

Online for almost 20 years, ArchWired.com has been a reliable and popular source of information for orthodontic patients across the globe. Its readers have contributed stories and photos to the site, and many orthodontists and dentists have written patient-oriented articles. ArchWired’s streamlined new look includes refreshed content, new articles about Invisalign and invisible braces (including mail-order braces), articles about jaw surgery, a new blog, and a comprehensive illustrated, peer-reviewed orthodontic glossary. The site’s popular Metal Mouth Message Board has also been updated and fine-tuned, and new Facebook and Twitter feeds have been launched.

“We wanted to refresh ArchWired and address topics relevant to today’s orthodontic patients,” said Lynn Schneider, site owner and editor. Last year, she reached out to her readers to ask what new content they would find helpful. “Our readers wanted to keep current on that latest topics in orthodontics, and also requested an easy-to-use orthodontic glossary. I was happy to comply,” she said.

While ArchWired’s readers enjoy engaging in the new look and content, dental professionals can also benefit from the site’s design refresh. ArchWired.com is accepting patient-oriented articles from dentists and orthodontists, and welcomes guest bloggers. There is no fee, and the article or post will include a free backlink. ArchWired is also accepting paid advertising from dental companies or practices.

About ArchWired.com’s Founder

Lynn Schneider has been involved in the orthodontic industry since she got braces as an adult, in the early 2000’s. ArchWired.com began as her online journal, “Of Braces & Home Improvement,” (she got braces on her teeth at the same time as a major home improvement project was about to get underway in her house). Over time, ArchWired.com grew into the comprehensive orthodontic information website it is today. Schneider is also the founder and owner of DentaKit.com, an e-commerce website which sells orthodontic products directly to patients worldwide. She has a background in technical writing, technical training, journalism and broadcast communications, and is the mother of two grown daughters.

ThoughtWire and PointClickCare Enter into Partnership to Transform Patient Data Challenges in Ontario’s Long-Term Care (LTC) Facilities Built On Microsoft Azure

ThoughtWire today announced its strategic technology partnership with PointClickCare, the leading cloud-based software vendor for the senior care market. Together, ThoughtWire and PointClickCare will work to help overcome patient data challenges experienced in Ontario’s Long-Term Care (LTC) facilities. This partnership has resulted in a new solution built on the Microsoft Azure platform including AI services.

Ontario’s LTC system is facing increased pressure to streamline and simplify how clinicians access patient data. Residents at LTC facilities often require complex medical care, yet LTC facilities typically lack easy access to advanced medical technology, such as on-site laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging. As a result, LTC residents are referred to external health organizations and their reports are returned to the LTC using a mix of paper-based and electronic methods.

This creates a challenging scenario for clinicians accessing patient data, requiring them to manually match records between systems and search large databases to find test results. Not only is the current approach inefficient, but it also increases the risk of privacy breaches and user errors.

To solve this challenge, ThoughtWire and PointClickCare developed eConnect, a unified solution for clinicians to access a patient’s medical data built on Azure. The eConnect solution, designed for the long-term care market, provides critical data sources, while applying Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Augmented Intelligence (AI) to create a single source of truth for patient data. It also improves efficiency, reduces the risk of user error and overcomes many privacy concerns.

“At ThoughtWire, we believe that healthcare data challenges are best solved through partnerships,” said Mike Monteith, CEO of ThoughtWire. “That’s why we’re proud to announce our work with PointClickCare, built on Azure, to create better experiences and outcomes for patients at long-term care facilities.”

“Having access to the right data at the right time is essential to improving healthcare outcomes,” says Stuart Feldman, General Manager, Canada, PointClickCare. “There is a wealth of data available to care providers and through the eConnect solution, we are enabling frontline care staff to access the right information in an efficient and compliant way.”

“Advancements in technology have led to new opportunities to unlock siloed data and improve patient care,” said Lisa Carroll, Canadian Public Sector Lead, Microsoft Canada. “We are pleased to work with partners like ThoughtWire and PointClickCare, who are leveraging Azure to transform the way clinicians assess and treat patients, ultimately leading to better experiences and outcomes.”

RF Technologies (RFT) Announces the Advancements to their State-of-the-Art Patient Security Solution

SAFE PLACE Enterprise Software

“This platform was designed from the ground up with IT compliance and information security in mind” says Paul Larson, VP of Engineering Services for RFT.

RFT a leading provider of wireless safety and security solutions for healthcare, hospitality and education, has recently announced an innovative change to their current patient security software. The SAFE PLACE® Enterprise Software is an entirely redesigned and modern software platform to serve your operational needs.

The new SAFE PLACE® Enterprise software release maintains the company’s most popular hospital products, including Infant Security, Pediatric Security, and Elopement Management Solutions, on a single modernized platform.

Enhancements for clinical staff:

  • Connect from Anywhere — With the browser-based interface you do not need a dedicated workstation or need to install software on every machine. The interface allows access via your facility’s secure web connection.
  • User Friendly — Modern, intuitive design is easy to learn and fast to use. Streamlined interface helps you find what you need, when you need it. Improved workflow aligns with common nursing practices, reducing procedural errors and alarm fatigue.
  • Designed for Mobile — Caregivers can conveniently receive alerts on their mobile devices. The ability to seamlessly view alerts, coordinate care, and classify events “on the fly” improves workflow efficiency.
  • Fewer False Alarms — A transmitter can be classified as ‘Off Unit” while its wearer is away from the unit, without needing to be disarmed and reactivated upon their return. Once back within range, the patient is immediately secure.
  • Coordinated Caregivers — Receive and ‘Claim’ alerts to coordinate responses with other caregivers. Also includes easy Event Classification to provide detailed reporting for Quality Assurance purposes.
  • Easy Troubleshooting — Makes it easier to keep track of misplaced transmitters; a ‘green’ icon indicates an active or available transmitter, while ‘grey’ signifies a transmitter is unavailable or missing.
  • Remote Access (optional) — With optional remote access, browser-based interface allows for access from offices or another site via your facility’s secure web connection.

In addition to significant key features, the SAFE PLACE Enterprise contains several user enhancements. “This platform was designed from the ground up with IT compliance and information security in mind” says Paul Larson, VP of Engineering Services for RFT. This release includes the below improvements:

  • iOS App – In addition to the Mobile Client and the Android app, SAFE PLACE® Enterprise now has an iOS application that allows you to respond to alarms from your iOS mobile device running iOS 11 and higher.

Features:

  • SAFE PLACE® Enterprise alarms will appear as a push notification on your iOS device
  • Device will sound / vibrate with each new alarm
  • Always logged in
  • Can claim alarms from inside the app
  • Can perform common functions at the point of care using the app, such as admits, adjusts, and discharges
  • Mom-Baby Matching – To help reduce the risk or possibility of mismatching a new born with his or her mother, the SAFE PLACE® Enterprise mom-baby matching feature provides an added layer of protection against human error and a potential mismatch.

Staff is notified visually as well as with an audible alarm at the workstation or on their mobile devices when a mismatch occurs so that they can respond quickly.

  • Elopement Management Support – Developed with emergency departments and acute care in mind, SAFE PLACE Enterprise now offers the ability to configure units for elopement management. For units using wander management transmitters, when a banded patient is too close to a monitored exit the doors will lock (if desired), an alarm sounds, and staff members are instantly notified.
  • IP Camera Integration – Streaming video for IP cameras can be accessed on the map view allowing responders to see what is happening before they get there.

About RFT

RFT is a leading provider of safety and security solutions for the healthcare, hospitality, and education markets, leveraging radio frequency identification (RFID) and real-time locating system (RTLS) technologies. New Poll Shows Americans Trust The World Health Organization To Manage Health Crises Like Coronavirus

4 out of 5 Americans (82%) across party lines say it is important that the U.S. work to limit the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in other countries.

Peter Yeo, President of the Better World Campaign said, “This poll shows that Americans understand that global cooperation is not optional—it’s an imperative. No country, including the U.S., can battle a pandemic on its own.”

Two thirds of respondents say global cooperation to address health crises is a top priority (67%), topping the list of global concerns that included terrorism, national security, and the prevention of global conflict.

The WHO, based in Geneva, has shipped more than 584,000 surgical masks, 47,000 N95 masks, 620,000 gloves, 72,000 gowns and 11,000 goggles to 57 countries, along with laboratory kits to test and diagnose over 100,000 people.

Yeo added, “Whether you approach this issue from a moral perspective, a health perspective, or a business perspective, the coronavirus proves what we know, deep down: We’re globally connected. And global problems require global solutions.”

Full results can be found here: https://betterworldcampaign.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/International-Cooperation-Poll-March-2020.pdf.

The poll was conducted from March 06-March 09, 2020 among a national sample of 2,200 adults. The interviews were conducted online and the data were weighted to approximate a target sample of adults based on age, race/ethnicity, gender, educational attainment and region. Results from the full survey have a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Coronavirus outbreak has many nonprofits increasing critical services to meet needs

The Nonprofit Alliance

This is a good reminder that nonprofits are a crucial part of the safety net for vulnerable populations. Crisis intervention happens at the national level, but most immediately it happens at the community level.

While the coronavirus pandemic is causing some businesses and schools to close, many nonprofits have more work than ever. Some are ramping up to meet increased needs among especially vulnerable populations, while dealing with a decrease in manpower and donors amid virus fears.

AARP, whose members have been deemed more at-risk for complications from COVID-19, is actively working to provide accurate, timely guidance during the outbreak, including a special Tele-Town Hall earlier this week. “We have a unique opportunity to meet the needs of older adults during this outbreak, providing what could be lifesaving information and support,” says David Whitehead, AARP and AARP Foundation chief development officer.

“For many nonprofits, the increased need comes at a time when fundraising is a concern due to market instability and overall uncertainty, and when volunteers — a large part of the manpower at these organizations — may not be able to work,” says Shannon McCracken of The Nonprofit Alliance, whose members include many 501(c)(3) organizations. TNPA is planning a virtual town hall meeting for members to discuss fundraising challenges and strategies in light of the pandemic.

The San Antonio Food Bank is preparing hundreds of thousands of 14-day food and supply kits to deliver to low-income households in Texas. “We are running into the fire instead of running away from it,” says Chief Resource Officer Michael Guerra, who expects the need to grow as hourly workers miss paychecks. Volunteers for their programs have dropped 50 percent, a gap they expect to increase.

Many food banks are expanding their services to include mobile distribution centers and hundreds of thousands of additional meals. With schools closing, and nearly 3 million children in the National School Lunch Program, organizations are taking action to meet an immediate and possibly dire need across the nation.

“This is a good reminder that nonprofits are a crucial part of the safety net for vulnerable populations. Crisis intervention happens at the national level, but most immediately it happens at the community level,” says McCracken. “A family already receiving services from a local pantry or after school program is going to need more help during a crisis. And they’re most likely to turn to the organizations already entrenched in the community.”

About The Nonprofit Alliance

The Nonprofit Alliance exists to foster the development and growth of nonprofit organizations and to protect the vital services they provide, as well as the donors, members, partners and volunteers who support them. Members represent a diverse landscape of causes and include industry experts who help nonprofits in their public outreach, fundraising and resource development. For more information, visit tnpa.org.

WHO, UN Foundation and partners launch first-of-its-kind COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund

The case for global cooperation could not be clearer – communities everywhere are affected, and people want to contribute. This new fund will create space for people everywhere, together, to fight this virus.

A new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Solidarity Response Fund will raise money from a wide range of donors to support the work of the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners to help countries respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund, the first-of-its-kind, enables private individuals, corporations and institutions anywhere in the world to come together to directly contribute to global response efforts, and has been created by the United Nations Foundation and the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, together with WHO.

“We are at a critical point in the global response to COVID-19 – we need everyone to get involved in this massive effort to keep the world safe,” said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “We are immensely grateful to the UN Foundation and the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation for coming forward to help us set up this fund. A lot of people and institutions have been saying they want to contribute to the fight against the novel coronavirus. Now they can.”

The fund launches with major support already lined up, including from Facebook and Google who have instituted a matching scheme for funds raised through their platforms, while individual donors are also supporting the fund through http://www.COVID19ResponseFund.org.

“We can’t ignore the fact that this is a truly global problem – one that requires truly global solutions,” said Elizabeth Cousens, UN Foundation President and CEO. “The case for global cooperation could not be clearer – communities everywhere are affected, and people want to contribute. This new fund will create space for people everywhere, together, to fight this virus.”

Funds will go towards actions outlined in the COVID-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan to enable all countries – particularly those most vulnerable and at-risk, and with the weakest health systems – to prepare for and respond to the COVID-19 crisis including rapidly detecting cases, stopping transmission of the virus, and caring for those affected.

WHO and its partners are seeking financing for protective equipment for frontline health workers; to equip diagnostic laboratories; improve surveillance and data collection; establish and maintain intensive care units; strengthen supply chains; accelerate research and development of vaccines and therapeutics; and take other critical steps to scale up the public health response to the pandemic.

The COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund is hosted by two foundations, the UN Foundation (registered in the United States) and the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation (registered in Switzerland). Both foundations have established relationships with the World Health Organization, allowing for efficient transfer of financial resources to enable COVID-19 response efforts.

Apart from giving online at http://www.COVID19ResponseFund.org, the UN Foundation can also receive donations via check or wire from around the world by contacting COVID19Fund@unfoundation.org.

All donations made to the United Nations Foundation and Swiss Philanthropy Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by the law, where applicable (U.S. and Switzerland). Additionally, Swiss Philanthropy Foundation has partnered with Transnational Giving Europe to extend tax benefit to certain additional European countries where applicable.

Dave Nassaney Relaunched His Best-Selling Book, “It’s My Life Too! THRIVE to Stay Alive as a Caregiver,” During His Fourth 2020 National Book & Media Tour

I have loved hammocks for as long as I can remember. I would usually solve the world’s problems (and my own) while lying on my hammock as I pray, meditate, and gain wisdom from above. On July 30, 2017, it finally occurred to me that I was being very selfi

It’s My Life, Too! THRIVE and Stay Alive ass a Caregiver

30% of Caregivers Actually Die Before Their Loved Ones Do

Dave Nassaney became his wife, Charlene’s, caregiver in 1996 after their 21st wedding anniversary. She lost her speech and became paralyzed on the right side from a devastating stroke. For the next 2 years they both went through the grief process, and almost separated. However, Charlene eventually entered into the “acceptance” phase of her grief, and started becoming her old self again – their love was rekindled.

They both reinvented themselves and embraced their “new” normal. She still cannot speak or walk, but she makes most people look like whiners & complainers. Despite her disability, she is a very strong, independent lady. They just celebrated 45 years together.

Dave realized after the grief that there are so many other caregivers out there feeling lost, alone and hopeless. He didn’t want them to have to go through the same pain he went through. He didn’t want them to give up, like he almost gave up. So he became “Dave, The Caregiver’s Caregiver.”

He now hosts his own syndicated radio show heard in all 50 states and 135 countries. He has appeared on 33 network morning shows on NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX from Honolulu to Washington, DC. He is a best-selling author of “Dave’s Hammock Wisdom, 99 Lessons Learned Living Life.” He is writing his 4th book, is an award-winning speaker, and has spoken at dozens of prestigious venues, and just signed a deal to have a documentary filmed about their life together.

His membership website, http://www.CaregiverDave.com was designed to help caregivers become part of a community where they feel supported, and become equipped with the necessary tools to thrive. Caregivers are not alone, in Caregiver Dave’s community, they are surrounded by caring and understanding individuals who have gone through exactly what they are going through in their difficult journey.

Dave’s site has tons of helpful articles and blogs, inspirational videos, an introductory coaching call, weekly group calls, a copy of his first book about overcoming unbelievable hardships, 7 “Thrive Pacs” to help you get started, or get you back on track with your caregiving journey, a private and public Facebook group to build community, a resource page, an audio soundtrack to help you sleep soundly, and 100% access to Dave’s 23-years of caregiver wisdom.

All of the above is available for a very low one-time membership fee FOR LIFE!. We encourage those who love a caregiver in their life to give “the gift of life” to their favorite caregiver so they can become healthy again, and go on to live a joyful & peaceful life — to not just survive — but to THRIVE!

Torchlight’s Technology-Based, Data Informed, Human Supported Solutions Help Solve a Wide Range of Family Caregiving Challenges

Torchlight’s Technology-Based, Data Informed, Human Supported Solutions Help Solve a Wide Range of Family Caregiving Challenges

Torchlight has just announced that it has been added as a new health and well-being solution to CVS Health’s Point Solutions Management service. Torchlight is the first caregiver-support benefit available on Point Solutions Management for the company’s pharmacy benefit management (PBM) clients that provides real-time access to the strategies and solutions modern caregivers need most. With a user-friendly digital platform and team of expert advisors, Torchlight goes beyond traditional family caregiving benefits. Its decision-support tools, caregiving knowledge base, and human expertise come together to help reduce stress and enhance outcomes for families and their sponsoring organizations.

After a rigorous review and evaluation process, CVS Health added Torchlight, along with four other key health and wellness industry vendors, to join its Point Solutions Management – a full-service offering that enables the company’s PBM clients to seamlessly evaluate, contract, and manage third-party healthcare point solutions to help maximize their benefits programs while minimizing associated spend.

Torchlight is a leading, scalable solution that can support and guide caregivers through the complexities of educational, financial, social, health, and other demands related to caring for a loved one, no matter the age, stage, or concern.

“This announcement about our relationship with CVS Health further validates that caregiver support is now a must-have benefit for leading employers and member organizations. Stress around caregiving issues – from supporting a child with behavioral issues to managing an out-of-state parent’s declining health – often causes negative repercussions for millions of caregivers in the U.S., such as decreased productivity, time away from work, and physical and mental health issues,” said Adam Goldberg, Torchlight Founder and CEO. “Torchlight helps resolve day-to-day family caregiving challenges which, in turn, helps employees reduce stress, improve outcomes, and lead happier, healthier, more productive lives.”

“We’re thankful for the opportunity to work with CVS Health. This collaboration allows us to take on the U.S. Caregiving Crisis, together, at the greatest scale,” Goldberg added.

Torchlight underwent a comprehensive evaluation, including a review of available clinical, safety, IT and data security information. A team of CVS Health clinicians also tested the solution to ensure it meets high standards and provides a quality end-user experience. Moving forward, Point Solutions Management also enables benefits verification through real-time and ongoing monitoring of Torchlight.

About Torchlight

At Torchlight, we believe that caring is everyone’s business and caring is good business. We are the only complete caregiver support solution for employers and member organizations. We offer solutions informed by data and, thus, are built for better results. Our approach includes a user-friendly digital platform and a team of expert advisors. No matter the age, stage or concern, Torchlight’s decision-support tools, caregiving knowledge base, and human expertise combine to reduce stress and enhance outcomes for both families and their sponsoring organizations more cost-effectively than call center or concierge-only solutions. The Beryl Institute Announces Reformatting of Patient Experience Conference 2020

News Image

The Beryl Institute announces its annual Patient Experience Conference 2020 will not be held as an in-person gathering as planned in Orlando, Fla. this year due to concerns about the rapid spread of coronavirus globally.

The Beryl Institute announces its annual Patient Experience Conference will not be held as an in-person gathering as planned in Orlando, Fla. this year due to concerns about the rapid spread of coronavirus globally. Instead, reinforcing the value and need for connection, learning and expanding the conversation on human experience, especially in today’s healthcare climate, the event will be reformatted as a multi-week virtual learning experience.

Patient Experience Conference, originally planned for April 20-22, 2020, is the largest independent, non-provider or vendor hosted event bringing together the collective voices of healthcare professionals across the globe to convene, engage and expand the dialogue on improving patient experience.

“With the current state of events, the commitment of our organization to elevate the human experience in healthcare, the realities of our community members who need now more than ever to be where care is needed, and for the safety and well-being of our global community overall, it is not the right time for us to hold Patient Experience Conference in person this year,” said Jason Wolf, PhD, CPXP, President & CEO of The Beryl Institute. “While we cannot come together in April, we stand together to tackle this health crisis in a way that ensures the best outcomes, the greatest of dignity and respect, and the human experience it deserves.”

The Institute will invite the patient experience community to connect in a new way through Virtual Patient Experience Conference 2020 (Virtual PX2020). The virtual event will commence during Patient Experience Week, April 27-May 1, 2020 and will offer over 40 sessions from global presenters and engage and involve supporters and exhibitors. The multi-week offering provides an opportunity for participants to access exclusive live and/or recorded presentations from work or home as well as connect with other participants for networking and sharing through a dedicated online community.

For more information regarding the transition to Virtual PX2020 and how The Beryl Institute is addressing logistics for those previously registered for the in-person Orlando event, please visit: http://www.theberylinstitute.org/page/PX2020_Update
