REDCOM Donates Software and Services to Help Monroe County Respond to COVID-19 Emergency

REDCOM’s Derwin Melendez-Diaz and Dave Conover set up the REDCOM Sigma Conference Manager at the Monroe County Emergency Management Offices.

We’re impressed by how quickly the REDCOM system was set up and how easy it is to use.

REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. has loaned its secure conferencing solution and professional services to the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management to help enhance communications during the COVID-19 crisis.

As the county tries to limit the number of people on-site, the need for real-time communication and conferencing tools has increased dramatically. The county’s existing conferencing solution presented several ease-of-use challenges, especially as the number of participants increased. Notably, there was no visual means of monitoring or controlling each conference. Automated announcements would constantly interrupt conversations whenever a user entered or left, and conference organizers had no way to mute individual attendees. Clearly, these technical challenges made it difficult to coordinate resources during an emergency scenario.

Derwin and Dave Setting Up Sigma

REDCOM’s Derwin Melendez-Diaz and Dave Conover set up the REDCOM Sigma Conference Manager at the Monroe County Emergency Management Offices.

REDCOM quickly took action, deploying three of the company’s experts to consult with the county. With the county’s technical staff already busy managing other emergencies, REDCOM donated its team and professional services in order to get REDCOM Conference Manager — a part of REDCOM Sigma® call control software — installed and running on the county’s servers within hours.

“The REDCOM conferencing system is allowing us to focus on the content of the conversation and managing the emergency without interruptions or distractions,” said Tim Kohlmeier, Deputy Public Safety Director and Emergency Manager, Office of Emergency Management. “We’re impressed by how quickly the REDCOM system was set up and how easy it is to use.”

By leveraging the REDCOM Conference Manager, county officials now have a visual overview of all conference attendees, viewable from a web browser. The conference organizer can manually mute participants with loud background noise, and even has the ability to join/split conferences or initiate a conference with a single click. The system will remain in operation at least through the duration of the COVID-19 crisis.

Vostia Telemedicine Apple iOS App available now for patients to download.

Telehealth

Vosita Telemedicine iOS Mobile App

Vosita Healthcare, Inc. https://vosita.com/ – a startup Telemedicine firm providing an online medical care appointment booking service for Telehealth appointments or standard office appointments.

Vosita Healthcare Inc. – located in Paramus, New Jersey – announces the release of Vosita on the iOS App Store for patients to use on iOS devices such as iPad and iPhone. The Vosita 1.0 app is going to make it easier for patients to connect and use the camera on the device with very little technical experience. Vosita has also added a new category for acute COVID-19 screening, which will make it easier for patients to find providers that are willing to virtually screen patients over Telemedicine for COVID-19.

In dealing with a crisis such as the Coronavirus pandemic, or COVID-19, our goal is to provide modern services like telemedicine to the public in order to decrease the risk of infection. Telemedicine allows those who are immunocompromised or quarantined to get doctors’ advice from the safety and comfort of their home. It can also keep patients who believe they may be infected with the virus out of the emergency room.

On Sunday March 29th, 60 Minutes interviewed Dr. Amit Uppal, a critical care specialist at Bellevue Hospital, who is really on the front line of dealing with the coronavirus. Dr. Uppal said, “What’s surprising about this, is sheer volume of the patients that we’re seeing and how rapidly they deteriorate is not what we’re used to, with other conditions, similar to this, when you see patients are deteriorating rapidly.” 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley asked, “What do you mean by that?” “What I mean is patients coming in with moderate symptoms, cough and shortness of breath, and within the course of a few hours some of those patients are on life support. And that’s really hard to watch, just from a human standpoint, to see someone get so sick so quick. And right now that’s a very common story that we’re seeing, I think.”

Dr. MICHAEL BASISTA, MD, a leading provider at Immedicenter, an urgent care facility at Clifton, New Jersey says: “I am able to examine patients over the Vosita Telemedicine videos, I can coach patients to take in deep breaths, inhale and exhale.” Dr. Basista says, “Right now, our most common visit is upper respiratory infections which are common colds, sinusitis fever, cough, a lot of these symptoms are the same symptoms you see with COVID-19. Using Vosita Telemedicine helps me determine if the patient should go to the emergency room for treatment, or they might have alternate or milder symptoms where going to the emergency room can be more harmful than beneficial. We are trying to keep patients who believe they may have the virus, but have only minor symptoms, out of the emergency room where they could spread the disease to others or have their condition deteriorate.”

The Trump Administration this month announced expanded Medicare telemedicine coverage that will enable patients to receive a wider range of healthcare services from their doctors without having to travel to a healthcare facility. Beginning on March 6, 2020, Medicare—administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)—will temporarily pay clinicians to provide Telemedicine services for patients residing across the entire country.

President and CEO of Vosita Healthcare Inc. Robert Gabriel commented, “We here at Vosita Telemedicine are donating the technology and software to conduct face-to-face telemedicine visits to all physicians so they can treat patients while staying socially distant. Our goal is to help our physicians, patients, and communities overcome the crisis and flatten the curve of infections by providing Vosita Telemedicine services.” Mr. Gabriel is a proud believer in giving back to the providers as a small price to pay in order to contain such a pandemic. Mr. Gabriel has been working with providers for 23 years serving as the CEO of Microwize Technology, a Healthcare IT firm since 1997.

The use of Vosita Telemedicine will be free for providers and medical groups for one year, with no obligation to continue to use it after the free period. In order for patients and providers to use the service, they need to go to https://vosita.com/ to join or download the app from the App Store free of charge.

Mediaplanet and the American Association of Endodontists Team up in Promoting Good Oral Health

News Image

…considering that endodontists are both qualified dentists and specialists in tooth pain, and perform root canal treatments on average of 25 times a week, it might be time for the general public to reconsider their provider…

Kicking off April’s Oral Cancer awareness month, Mediaplanet launches its March edition of Oral Health campaign. The campaign is aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of oral health to overall health and wellbeing. With topics ranging from the importance of starting a good oral care routine from a young age to the advantages of endodontic care to general dentistry, the campaign is a call to action urging people to advocate for their own oral health.

Tooth pain is a very prevalent problem, and sufferers typically seek out the help of a dentist for relief. But considering that endodontists are both qualified dentists and specialists in tooth pain, and perform root canal treatments on average of 25 times a week, it might be time for the general public to reconsider their provider in these extraordinary situations. Not only are endodontists uniquely skilled at addressing the pain caused by decay, inflammation, cracks, and trauma, they do so by inflicting a minimum of pain of those already in a great deal of it. Their first and last goal is to get patients feeling their best, and the root canal treatment is at the top of the list of dental procedures that can help achieve that.

In one of the campaign’s articles “How Endodontists Can Minimize Tooth Pain” the AAE helps to describe Endodontic treatment in detail and also debunk prevalent dental myths.

The print component of Oral Health is distributed within today’s edition of USA TODAY in New York, Chicago, D.C Baltimore, Los Angeles, Houston, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh/Cleveland, and Boston markets, with a circulation of approximately 200,000 copies and an estimated readership of 600,000. The digital component is distributed nationally, through a vast social media strategy, and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets. To explore the digital version of the campaign, visit: https://www.futureofpersonalhealth.com/oral-health/

This campaign was made possible with the support of the Academy of General Dentistry, American Association of Endodontists, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Head and Neck Cancer Alliance, Operation Smile, America’s Toothfairy, SmartMouth, Native, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

With a Mommy Makeover, Knowledge is Power, says Beverly Hills Physicians

Beverly Hills Physicians is a health and beauty medical group serving the Greater Los Angeles area and beyond.

A successful mommy makeover begins with offering patients support and plenty of information so that they can make the best possible decisions for themselves.

A March 25 article on Haute Living describes how mommy makeovers are a reliable method for helping a woman to enjoy a body closer to the one she had prior to having children. It adds, however, that every mom/prospective patient considering the procedure should understand what it entails. This includes the details of the surgeries, deciding on when to schedule them, understanding the recovery time needed post-procedure, as well as carefully researching which surgeon is the best for the job. Beverly Hills Physicians, a Los Angeles based medical and cosmetic group, says that a successful mommy makeover begins with offering patients support and plenty of information so that they can make the best possible decisions for themselves.

Beverly Hills Physicians says that, for people who may not be certain what it is,a mommy makeover is a collection of procedures that address the less flattering impacts motherhood can have on a woman’s body. While diet and exercise can help to reduce post-pregnancy weight and build healthy muscle, loose and sagging skin as well as certain types of fatty tissue are very often mostly immune to exercise and diet. Procedures in the package typically include a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) to remove excess tissue and tighten muscles, liposuction to remove fat deposits, as well as breast augmentation and/or breast lift, says Beverly Hills Physicians.

The health and beauty medical group says that there are many factors involved with the success of any plastic surgery or group of surgeries. The first and most important detail, says the group, is the choice of a plastic surgeon. The group says that its most important offering is its selection of many of Southern California’s most respected physicians.

Beverly Hills Physicians adds that its consultants can also help with a great many other tasks beyond coordinating the choice of a physician. These include helping to make whatever arrangements are needed to facilitate procedures, including scheduling a time that will work with the patient’s schedule. In cases where patients may be concerned about finances, the group notes that consultants can nearly always structure an arrangement that can make most procedures affordable to most patients.

Moving on, Beverly Hills Physicians says that, beyond the matter of the date of a procedure there is a different kind of scheduling that prospective mommy makeover patients should know. It is best if a mother waits until she is finished having children before having the procedures. As you may have guessed, waiting ensures that the results of the procedure will last and not be affected due to the exigencies of another pregnancy.

Readers who would like to learn more about a Mommy Makeover procedure or other services provided by Beverly Hills Physicians can call 800-788-1416 or visit the health and beauty medical group’s website at http://www.BeverlyHillsPhysicians.com.

Trident at AIU Launches New Doctoral-Level Health Administration Program

Starting this April, Trident at American InterContinental University (Trident) will begin offering its new Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) program. This is Trident’s sixth doctoral-level program and second within its College of Health and Human Services.

The goal of this program is to help health administrators prepare to pursue opportunities in this growing field. Impacted by regulatory and legal policy, political and social trends, and technological innovations, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of medical and health services manager will see growth of 18% from 2018 to 2028*.

Students in this online doctoral program will be taught to critically evaluate research, and the political, social, and legal climates of modern healthcare administration. Successful graduates will have an expert-level understanding of applied research, and an understanding of how this information can be used to effectively lead health organizations in ethical, social, legally, financially, and culturally responsible ways.

The DHA program culminates in a Doctoral Study Project that graduates must successfully defend. The project is a comprehensive study using applied research methods to investigate an area of healthcare administration that is of interest to the student.

Like other Trident programs, the DHA program is stackable. This allows graduates from Trident’s Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA) or Master of Science in Health Sciences (MSHS) programs the option of applying up to 16 credits towards the DHA program. Students who have successfully obtained a health-related graduate degree from another regionally accredited institution may also be eligible to transfer up to 16 credits into this new program.

Courses that can be transferred into the DHA program include Health Care Finance, Health Care Law, Regulations, and Ethics, Healthcare Delivery Systems, and Health Equity.

Enrollment is now open for Trident’s Doctor of Health Administration program. Instruction begins on April 13.

Mediaplanet and Voice Actor Rob Paulsen Team up in Promoting Good Oral Health

With topics ranging from the importance of starting a good oral care routine from a young age to how early detection of oral cancer can save your life, the campaign is a call to action urging people to advocate for their own oral health.

Kicking off April’s Oral Cancer awareness month, Mediaplanet launches its newest edition of the Oral Health campaign. The campaign is aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of oral health to overall health and wellbeing. With topics ranging from the importance of starting a good oral care routine from a young age to how early detection of oral cancer can save your life, the campaign is a call to action urging people to advocate for their own oral health.

According to the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, 50 percent of children will have tooth decay by the age of five. By neglecting their oral health, many Americans face a number of oral health diseases that not only can result in partial to total tooth loss, infection, and even death, but also overall wellbeing and mental health. 85 percent of Americans believe that oral health is extremely important to their overall health (according to a Delta Dental), yet only half of those surveyed reported they visit the dentist at least one time per year. This discrepancy highlights the importance of raising awareness on these topics and educating people on best practices.

Profiled in the cover story is Rob Paulsen, American voice actor and throat cancer survivor. As the 2020 spokesperson for the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance, Paulsen has been advocating to raise awareness of the disease and preventative measures. In an interview with Mediaplanet he shares his experience with throat cancer and his motivation behind his advocacy.

Expert Dentists Can Help Patients Remotely to Distinguish Emergencies from Less Urgent Matters, says Dr. Sahar Verdi of Dental Specialists of California

Sahar Verdi, D.D.S.

If people do need to come it for an emergency treatment, they should rest easy that we always take every possible step to prevent the transmission of microbes.

A March 20 article on CDA provides the California Dental Association’s updated recommendations for dental treatments. The primary recommendation is that treatment should be restricted to emergency care until further notice. Board-certified periodontist Sahar Verdi, D.D.S. of Dental Specialists of California, says that the seriousness of the COVID-19/coronavirus crisis fully justifies this step. At the same time, people with dental or oral health issues should not hesitate to get in touch electronically with an oral health care specialist.

“Emergencies don’t always announce themselves clearly. People with extreme pain, of course, will usually seek out care immediately but other symptoms might make patients wonder whether or not their situation is truly urgent,” Dr. Verdi said. “As a board-certified periodontist and a specialist in multiple areas, I regularly deal with the most serious oral healthcare issues. The worst tooth problems usually impact or start in the gums, and serious gum issues can very often require the removal of one or more teeth – a poor outcome which is even worse than most people think it is,” Dr. Verdi added.

“People should even consider reaching out with what they see as fairly mild symptoms. Relatively moderate but very persistent pain is always cause for at least some concern. Also, bad breath that doesn’t go away is a common sign of gum disease,” said Dr. Verdi. “It might not seem like the worst symptom in a time of social distancing, but it is it a red flag that needs to at least be discussed. The same goes for bleeding gums – even a somewhat pink toothbrush shouldn’t be ignored,” said Dr. Verdi.

“I offer virtual consultations where I can talk with patients and often look at photos they’ve taken of their mouths. That way I can at least provide them with peace of mind if their issue is not so urgent,” says Dr. Verdi. “On the other hand, if things look more serious, then we can make arrangements to deal with that,” she says.

“If people do need to come it for an emergency treatment,” says Dr. Verdi, “they should rest easy that we always take every possible step to prevent the transmission of microbes. That’s for the benefit of both the patient and ourselves. During the crisis, of course, we will take additional steps to ensure that there is as little contact between patients and our teams as we can possibly manage,” Dr. Verdi added.

“At a time like this, it’s more important than ever for everyone to practice outstanding oral hygiene including brushing and flossing at least two times every day. To kill any viruses that may be in a person’s mouth, I suggest either dissolving a teaspoon of salt in a cup [eight ounces] of water or making a 50/50 solution of water and hydrogen peroxide and rinsing with either for 20 seconds,” Dr. Verdi added.

“Finally, even if people have concerns they know for a fact aren’t emergencies but want to get an early start, they are very welcome to give us a call. No one knows when the crisis will end but, whenever that is, there is going to be a rush of people who’ve been putting of all kinds of issues, it never hurts to start things early,” concludes Dr. Verdi.

Readers who are interested in learning more about Dr. Verdi’s services in Thousand Oaks are invited to call 805-370-7171. They can also visit the Dental Specialists of California website at https://dentalspecialistsofca.com/. Los Angeles residents may wish to call the number for her West L.A. offices, (310) 477-1691.
