First Successful Hip Replacement Surgeries Completed with New Libertas® Taper Reduced Uncemented Femoral Stem

“We are delighted to commercially launch the Libertas TR, demonstrating our continued commitment to developing new implant options to further expand our hip portfolio” says Ashesh Shah, CEO, Maxx Orthopedics.

Maxx Orthopedics, Inc., a rapidly expanding global orthopedics device company, announced today the commercial launch and first successful surgeries of its new Libertas® Taper Reduced Uncemented Femoral Stem, the latest addition to its hip system.

The Libertas Taper Reduced Uncemented Femoral Stem (Libertas TR®) is a press fit, double tapered stem with Ti-GrowthC® coating offered in standard and distally reduced versions. The stems are available in three neck angles to accommodate patient specific anatomic requirements and are compatible with Maxx’s existing Libertas Femoral Heads as well as the Libertas Acetabular Cup System. The proximal Ti-GrowthC coating on the implant surface is designed to promote biological integration with the bone to achieve longer-term stability, while the geometry of the stem aids in providing a better fit for proximal and distal mismatches.

Dr. Sridhar Durbhakula of OrthoBethesda, in Bethesda, MD and a member of the Libertas TR design team, performed the first cases. He reports, “I have enjoyed working with the Maxx Orthopedics development team in designing this new stem choice. The Libertas TR rounds out their comprehensive array of options for primary total hip arthroplasty. The reduced distal taper minimizes fracture risk and allows optimal proximal fixation, without ever getting caught up distally. The smaller neck length and variable offset options allows accuracy in achieving proper leg length and femoral offset for all patient anatomy, including smaller female patients. The newer generation of instrumentation affords a minimally invasive technique for surgical efficiency. I couldn’t be more excited about the Libertas TR stem!”

“We are delighted to commercially launch the Libertas TR, demonstrating our continued commitment to developing new implant options to further expand our hip portfolio. It is in limited release now, and we expect full commercial release within 3 months. As a company this launch is particularly invigorating as we continue to battle the challenges posed by COVID-19,” says Ashesh Shah, CEO, Maxx Orthopedics.

The Libertas Hip System is a total hip replacement system engineered for providing patients with mechanical and biological stability to help restore mobility. The variety of component and size options enable surgeons to provide patients with a robust hip arthroplasty solution without compromise.

The Libertas Total Hip System is globally available. For additional information, please visit http://www.maxxortho.com or download the MaxxOrtho mobile app.

HealthTrio to Expand Interoperability API Solutions to help Health Plans meet new CMS Rules

News Image

HealthTrio announced plans today to launch their Interoperability Kit, starting with their Patient Access application programming interface (API) solution, to help health plans comply with the recent CMS Interoperability and patient access final rule. The kit will also include the Provider Directory API and support for Payer-to-Payer Data Exchange.

On March 9, 2020, the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) released final rules addressing Interoperability, Information Blocking, and the ONC Health IT Certification Program, as part of the 21st Century Cures Act. The Interoperability and Patient Access final rule (CMS-9115-F) finalizes new policies that help advance health information and data exchange, ultimately moving the entire healthcare system toward greater interoperability and allowing patients to access their health information through third-party applications of their choice.

CMS, in partnership with ONC, has determined Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Release 4.0.1, a standard created by the health-care standards organization Health Level Seven International (HL7), as the foundational, common standard for storing and sharing patient information. These final rulings will provide patients access to their electronic health information in a single, longitudinal format that is easy to understand, secure, and updated automatically.

Based on its existing API framework and adoption of HL7 FHIR standards, HealthTrio’s Patient Access API solution reduces health plan costs, complexity, and deployment challenges while allowing patients to easily and securely access their claims and encounter information. The solution optimizes HealthTrio’s consent and identity management, data-integration capabilities, and extensive security to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health care information. In addition to exceeding requirements set forth by CMS regulations and HIPAA, this solution supports Blue Button (BB) 2.0 (Carrier Claim) guidelines as well as clinical data based on the United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) standards.

HealthTrio, as the first to market portal solution provider over twenty years ago, has a longstanding history advancing batch and real-time data exchange. HealthTrio has extensive experience with interoperability. They were awarded CAQH Phase IV certification and have a growing single sign-on (SSO) library of over a hundred commonly used organizations and partners.

HealthTrio provides elegant, advanced digital engagement solutions, all purposefully designed to help simplify the intricate healthcare landscape and to support health plans, administrators and integrated delivery networks to decrease costs, increase access, and improve health outcomes. HealthTrio’s Patient Access API solution capitalizes on the digital engagement innovations that HealthTrio has designed and continuously refined throughout the years, enabling health plans to implement a streamlined, secure, and industry-leading product that easily and effectively complies with CMS requirements.

HealthTrio is currently piloting their solution with testing set to begin in the fall of 2020. Both the Patient Access and Provider Directory APIs will be ready for health plans by January 1, 2021, in accordance with deadlines set by CMS. Payer-to-Payer Data Exchange will be ready for health plans by January 1, 2022.

SweetLeaf Sweetener Celebrates Men’s Health Month By Helping Men Lead Healthier Lives

News Image

Eliminating dietary sugars can reduce or minimize the chance of getting several dangerous diseases.

In 1900, the average lifespan for men in America was a mere 46 years. By 1950, men’s average lifespan was 65; a significant improvement. Today, a man’s average lifespan is 76 years – 30 years more than in 1900.

Of course, advances in medicine and diagnostics play a large role in getting males those extra years, but men have also begun taking better care of themselves. Men exercise more and are more conscious of their diet than they were several decades ago.

In 1994, Congress designated a week in June as Men’s Health Week. Since then, the entire month of June has been celebrated as Men’s Health Month, and SweetLeaf® is doing its part in seeing that the American male population lives longer and more healthful lives.

Eliminating dietary sugars can reduce or minimize the chance of getting several dangerous diseases. For example, there is ample evidence that excessive sugar contributes to obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

Additionally, excessive amounts of sugar are suspected to cause liver damage, kidney damage, pancreas damage, and brain shrinkage.

To keep men, and everyone for that matter, as healthy as possible, the American Heart Association has suggested a daily limit of 36 grams, or 9 teaspoons of sugar per day for men and 25 grams, or 6 teaspoons, for women and for children 2-18 years. (Children 2 years and younger should not consume any added sugars. Plus, according to the AHA, children under 5 years should avoid drinking flavored milks, toddler formulas, plant-based/non-dairy milk, caffeinated beverages, and sugar- and low-calorie sweetened beverages, which can be a big source of added sugars with no nutritional value.)

Living sugar free, however, doesn’t require abandoning the foods we love. Continuing to enjoy life’s sweetness is as simple as replacing sugar with plant-based SweetLeaf sweeteners. Plus, SweetLeaf has a non-glycemic response, so it doesn’t affect blood sugar levels.

It’s easy to accurately replace dietary sugars by using SweetLeaf’s downloadable Conversion Chart or interactive, online Conversion Calculator.

Try great tasting SweetLeaf Stevia or SweetLeaf Organic Stevia in packets or shaker jar; Water Drops® water enhancer in six delicious fruit blends; delicious Sweet Drops® in 2-ounce or convenient 50ml bottles, or organic Better Than Sugar!®, a one-to-one sugar replacement in both powder and granulated form.

SweetLeaf products are available online at Shop.SweetLeaf.com, or at your favorite health food stores, natural groceries, supermarkets, and online retailers.

For interviews with company leadership, please contact the name listed at the bottom of the release.

Texas Breast Cancer Survivor Launches Experiential Website to Help Others Searching for Quality Hemp CBD Information

“I live with a lot of repercussions from the year of fighting breast cancer,” said Johnson. “My quality of life is absolutely, positively changed by having hemp-based products as a part of my lifestyle.”

In 2011, Stephanie Johnson was staring down a very scary diagnosis of Stage 3, Grade 3, Triple Negative, BRCA1+, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma: Breast cancer. She was 38 years old. As a “Gen X, DARE Generation kid,” Johnson had always been taught to fear the cannabis plant family. It would take facing mortality with her cancer diagnosis to be open to the possibilities.

“I was looking at a less than 25% chance of living to see 5 years,” explains Johnson. “I was also looking at a tough fight that began with 4 months of chemotherapy followed by what would be several surgeries, including a double mastectomy and complete hysterectomy. Ultimately it would take a year to get through it all.”

Now, having lived longer than she ever expected, she attributes the willingness to add the cannabis family of plants into her life as being a major force in her being alive and functioning, today. It is this story that is at the core of why Johnson is determined to share her experiences – with the hope that someone else may benefit.

“I know that I dove deep into research to get comfortable with the idea of cannabis in the first place,” says Johnson. “There’s so much that my generation was told that was fear-based. Now, I know better and that is why I want to be able to share in the journey with others who may be like me – who may be curious but don’t know where to begin. I had just had the opportunity to be a part of a book about real conversations around the plant and that had me thinking of the others who may be like me and wanting to know more.”

What started out as a “simple blog idea with some Instagram chatter,” Johnson’s personal journey has grown in attention to require a web-based home of information – the reason behind SinceDay3.com. A combination of reviews, research and industry interviews, Johnson hopes to reach those who, like her, are curious but don’t know where to begin.

“I really enjoy the opportunity to share news and information with those who may be as curious as I am but who may also be intimidated by starting a conversation with those who are industry experts,” says Johnson. “There is a duality of both incomplete information and very complete (but overwhelming) information out there. There are a lot of parts and pieces to this plant family and the industry, as well. Not to mention that it is ever-evolving, so what they may have heard last week could be different, today. I am hopeful to be a bridge between the experts and those, like me, who are still learning.”

A 2019 study by New Yield Insights showed that a majority of those U.S. consumers who showed interest in CBD were 35 years of age or older (64%), were predominantly female (56%) and had college experience (79%). These numbers only solidify Johnson’s desire to keep spreading her experiential journey to others.

“The old stereotypes of the misanthropic, unmotivated stoner type just don’t add up anymore,” explains Johnson. “People like me are interested, but we’re often saddled between the old school rhetoric and how this can affect our lives – like employment availability. It’s a lot to try to take in and figure where to begin. I hope that my willingness to be open helps them feel more comfortable.”

Most of Johnson’s writings focus on the oft-ignored hemp industry and the high CBD products that the agricultural commodity is a base for.

“I’m in Texas which is, currently, a hemp state,” states Johnson. “What I have available to me is hemp-based products which are predominantly CBD. Hemp is the multifaceted and multipurpose non-psychoactive sibling to marijuana. I hope I can help them see how wonderful this plant we have truly is.”

That limit of accessibility doesn’t seem to bother Johnson as her life, she claims, has been made functional because of these hemp-based options like CBD that she has access to.

“I live with a lot of repercussions from the year of fighting breast cancer,” said Johnson. “My quality of life is absolutely, positively changed by having hemp-based products as a part of my lifestyle. I have already been on the earth longer than expected and now, because of these non-psychoactive cannabinoids like CBD, I’m able to enjoy a higher quality of life with motility and mobility that I was not enjoying before CBD. I want this same kind of possibility for life quality for others, too. Maybe I can help them learn something new or see a brand that they feel comfortable trying because I already did.”

Stephanie Johnson is a Dallas resident who regularly writes and speaks on hemp, CBD and breast cancer survivorship. Having lived to see 47 years old, she strives to be able to help others feel comfortable with this still misunderstood plant family and its potentials. More information at http://www.SinceDay3.com

Demystifying Decentralized Clinical Trials and Enabling Your Study for Success, Upcoming Webinar Hosted by Xtalks

Xtalks Life Science Webinars

Join this educational webinar to learn how CROs and Pharma can fast track plans for decentralized clinical trials with the smart capabilities of the Internet of Things (IoT).

Join Bryan Lubel, Executive Vice President at IoT Managed Services at KORE and Rust Felix, Co-Founder & CEO of Slope.io, Inc in a live session on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 1pm EDT.

Decentralizing clinical trials is no longer a ‘nice-to-have’ feature to reduce clinical trial times and improve participant engagement. The COVID-19 outbreak has shattered this illusion and placed the spotlight on the imperative to have better, faster access to new drugs, meaning clinical trials can no longer languish in a tedious, paper-based approach. According to the US National Library of Medicine’s ClincialTrials.gov site, there are over 55,000 clinical trials actively enrolling participants worldwide right now.

Join this educational webinar to learn how CROs and Pharma can fast track plans for decentralized clinical trials with the smart capabilities of the Internet of Things (IoT). With the enablement of IoT, participants are no longer required to appear in-person for physician visits, and valuable clinical data can be gathered remotely. This sounds very streamlined, but in fact over 76 percent of all IoT projects fail, resulting in further delays and the loss of countless dollars.

In this webinar, the presenters will talk about the common mistakes companies make when trying to decentralize their clinical trials. They will also discuss how to increase participant engagement & satisfaction, as well as manage the full spectrum of decentralized clinical trials from conception to completion with cost saving tactics.

Orfit Aerial Couch Top for Proton Therapy Validated by Mevion Medical Systems

“Mevion is committed to providing customizable and complementary immobilization products to our customers and we are excited to partner with Orfit to add the Aerial Couch Top and accessories to our proton therapy systems,” said Ying Xiong, vice president of product management at Mevion Medical Systems.

The Aerial Couch Top combines precise and reproducible immobilization with homogeneity over the entire treatment area. Concerto Renal Services Brings Home Dialysis Program to Wisconsin

Concerto Renal Services, the nation’s leading provider of dialysis in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), has expanded to the State of Wisconsin. The expansion for Concerto means SNF dialysis patients – who otherwise require transportation to and from outpatient clinics at least three times weekly – can receive services at their home facility. The service is the first of its kind in Wisconsin.

The benefits of SNF dialysis are enhanced due to COVID-19, offering residents and SNFs better protection from coronavirus exposure and community transmission. With its certification from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in Wisconsin, Concerto now provides home dialysis services in five states.

“We’re proud to service Wisconsin dialysis patients and the facilities caring for them,” noted Concerto CEO, Shimmy Meystel. “The benefits of SNF dialysis are becoming increasingly clear, especially at this critical time, so we’re especially honored to do our part promoting safety and better outcomes,” Meystel declared.

Concerto is partnering with Ignite Medical Resorts to offer services at Ignite Medical Resort Oak Creek, a brand new 144-bed SNF in suburban Milwaukee. Primarily focused on the “medical resort” model, Ignite combines luxury accommodations and amenities with advanced clinical programs and rapid rehabilitation. “Our partnership with Concerto is an example of how Ignite offers its guests the chance to recover and receive treatment in a safe and beautiful environment, and to gain strength and independence without excessive transportation that interrupts valuable therapy time,” says CEO Tim Fields. “It also provides our guests more protection from COVID-19 by limiting exposure to high risk outpatient dialysis clinics,” Fields added.

Concerto’s partnership with Ignite is not limited to Wisconsin. Already working together in Illinois, where Concerto is based, the two are also collaborating to open dialysis services in Kansas City, Missouri at Ignite Medical Resort KC Northland, another new 90-bed facility. Additional partnerships in the State of Kansas are also in the planning stages as well. “Concerto and Ignite have similar visions,” concluded Meystel. “We both have something unique to offer SNF residents, and truly believe our services will usher in a brighter future for this vulnerable population. We expect to grow together as SNF residents understandably demand more of their caretakers.”

About Concerto Renal Services

Founded by nursing home operators who grew frustrated with both the quality of in-house dialysis care and the risks of transporting patients offsite to dialyze, Concerto Renal Services began in 2015 with a vision of Giving Life to People on Dialysis. Based in Chicago, Concerto provides in-house services to more nursing home residents than any other provider in America. Concerto’s compassionate and innovative model of three-times-weekly hemodialysis delivers enhanced technology and human capital to a nursing home resident’s doorstep. Concerto believes that dialysis care for nursing home residents should accommodate their lifestyle and conform to their schedule. The result is improved and extended lives, while dramatically reducing the overall costs of these patients to the healthcare system. Concerto operates in Illinois, Maryland, Kansas, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Concerto is also launching operations in several additional states. Learn more at https://www.concertors.com/.
