American College of Lifestyle Medicine Designates Mental Well-Being Program The Lift Project as a Certified Lifestyle Medicine Program

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) today announced that mental well-being program The Lift Project has earned Certified Lifestyle Medicine Program designation. The designation recognizes, supports and encourages adoption of evidence-based health intervention programs that meet rigorous review requirements and standards for offering lifestyle modification for chronic disease treatment and reversal.

Lifestyle Medicine is defined as the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic intervention—including a whole-food, plant-predominant eating pattern, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connection—as a primary modality, delivered by clinicians trained and certified in this specialty, to prevent, treat, and often reverse chronic disease.

Founded in Australia by internationally recognized lifestyle medicine expert Dr. Darren Morton, The Lift Project is an evidence-based program for everyone, not just those suffering from a mental health condition. The program, used by some 15,000 participants ranging in age from 8-88 years old, employs strategies from lifestyle medicine, positive psychology and neuroscience.

The program involves 10 facilitated sessions (taken once weekly over 10 weeks) and is delivered in both face-to-face and online formats. The lessons cover a diverse array of lifestyle-related topics that have been scientifically shown to improve mental wellbeing.

The Lift Project is being utilized in four settings: health care, education, workplace and the community. It has been used by health care providers for their patients and clients, by universities as well as senior high schools, by a number of workplaces and in the community.

Studies of The Lift Project have shown that it significantly reduces depressive symptoms, anxiety and stress, while improving positive aspects of mental wellbeing such as vitality and life satisfaction.

MoveStrong FitGround and Obstacle Course for Fontana Unified School District and Community


MoveStrong recently launched an outstanding multi-faceted outdoor fitness and obstacle course training area by converting four unused tennis courts for Fontana High School and Law Enforcement. The MoveStrong outdoor design and setup included many of their well-loved legacy favorites like the T-Rex Functional Training Station as well as several new stars like the Functional Staircase and Ramp.

“The fitness training area benefits so many in the community and offers so much flexibility for users of all ages and skill level,” says Jared Kuka, founder of MoveStrong. A dedicated Police Testing and Training Course was integrated for Fontana Law Enforcement. In additional to students and physical education programs, other Fontana First Responders will also use the Obstacle Course training area.

After the installation was complete, MoveStrong stepped up their efforts to bring the community together in wellness by providing a group functional training introduction with students, faculty, ROTC, and law enforcement officials. MoveStrong’s training course provides information for everything from to the introduction to basic exercises with MoveStrong products to safety, programming, and creative ways to engage users.

Long-awaited South County Family YMCA in Urbana to Open in April

“The Y will provide positive activities from an early age to help young people reach their full potential so they can grow into thriving adults,” said Chris Colville, president, and CEO at the YMCA of Frederick County.

After years of planning, the much anticipated new South County Family Y, conveniently located between the Urbana Middle School and High School, is set to open Monday, April 5 with an Open House being held 10 am-4 pm Saturday and Sunday, April 10 & 11.

“The Urbana community is growing quickly and will only continue to grow. Active Older Adults and Families in this area need the support and essential programming offered by the YMCA for healthy living and youth development!” says Charlie Seymour, Turning Point Commercial and YMCA South County Advisory Board Chair.

Festivities planned will showcase not only the facility but the programs and services of the YMCA of Frederick County. Cooking class demonstrations, trial group exercise classes, and swim lesson tests are just a few of the planned activities.

The partnership will provide flexibility for college coaches to participate in camps and other transformational experiences.
