Freedom Kitchen transcends time and space to offer cooking classes and education to those ready to eat real food. It is a place for health enthusiasts to gather.

After a decade of teaching holistic health, Lisa could clearly see a need to gather in the kitchen with like-minded individuals. A new ecosystem is needed that organizes resources from health advocates, food producers and farmers to influence the shift to conscious consumerism.

Her teachings of holistic health and nutrition follow yogic principles, starting with ahimsa, or “non-harming.” Similar to the Hippocratic Oath taken by physicians to “first, do no harm.”

It seems so simple, yet somehow we forgot. Regardless of how we got here, it is time to course-correct. Will you join us in the kitchen to live like the future matters?

Freedom Kitchen is a place to gather, to nourish and to love.

Lisa Jendza is a business and health coach who has owned a Wellness Spa and co-founded a Commercial Kitchen/Cooking School. Hindu Leader to Host Free Event for All

“Trinity Spiritual Center is pleased to offer this unusual opportunity to be in the presence of a living saint, as part of our year-long series of conversations on contemporary issues that deeply impact our lives.” — Mark Grayson, Director

With a powerful message sure to challenge overachievers, Trinity Spiritual Center will host renowned Hindu writer, speaker, and social activist Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati at an in-person and livestream event on Thursday, September 9th at 7:00 p.m. in Southport, CT. This special event is free and open to all with advance registration.

Sadhvi is the author of the just-published, best-selling memoir, “Hollywood to the Himalayas: A Journey of Healing and Transformation”—the story of “a reluctant spiritual seeker who finds much more than she bargained for when she travels to India.” Deepak Chopra, world-renowned pioneer of alternative medicine, praises Sadhvi for her “inspiring wisdom [that] illuminates the path to healing, happiness, and inner peace.” Dr. Jane Goodall describes Sadhvi’s journey as “a river of love, compelling in its authenticity and unflinching honesty.”

A highly-revered spiritual leader whose public appearances attract thousands in India, Sadhvi will discuss the presence of Grace, and how it unexpectedly entered and changed her life. She will explore the unusual series of events that led her out of her upper-middle-class American life into her spiritual awakening on the banks of the Ganga in India.

“You may be focused entirely on business and working a thousand miles an hour when, out of nowhere, you experience a genuine spiritual awakening,” Sadhvi said. “Grace is available to all. It does not discriminate. Grace requires only that there be space in us in which it can flow.”

A data-driven social scientist who grew up among Hollywood’s elite, Sadhvi graduated from Stanford University, and was finishing up her Ph.D. in psychology with no interest in spiritual pursuits when she arrived with her husband in Rishikesh and was overwhelmed by a direct encounter with the divine.

This experience was followed by a series of awakenings that fundamentally altered the trajectory of her life.

In addition to her service as a spiritual leader, Sadhvi also leads myriad humanitarian programs worldwide. She is Secretary-General of Global Interfaith WASH Alliance, the world’s first alliance of religious leaders for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, launched by UNICEF in 2013; the President of Divine Shakti Foundation, a charitable organization bringing education and empowerment to women and children; and Director of the world-famous International Yoga Festival.

“We are excited to welcome Sadhvi to the Trinity community and eagerly await her thoughts on how we can rewire our thinking and behaviors so that we experience more grace, deepening connections, and greater meaning and purpose in our lives,” Peggy Hodgkins, Rector at Trinity Episcopal Church says. “We welcome our friends from all around the globe to join us for a very special event.”

Director Mark Grayson adds, “Trinity Spiritual Center is pleased to offer this unusual opportunity to be in the presence of a living saint, as part of our year-long series of conversations on contemporary issues that deeply impact our lives. We are eager to absorb the lessons that Sadhvi will share as we expand our open, welcoming spiritual community for all seekers in Fairfield County and beyond.”

The presentation is open to all. No affiliation with the church required, and while there is no charge for the participation in this event, registration is required (details are below). Copies of Sadhvi’s memoir Hollywood to the Himalayas will be available for a suggested donation of $30 or more to the Divine Shakti Foundation. An author signing will follow the event.

Indie Drink Brand Makes 2021 Inc. 5000 by Putting People First

Dave Colina, O2 founder and CEO, is leading one of the fastest-growing companies in the U.S. with a community-first business approach.

Today independent functional beverage brand O2 announces its first appearance on the Inc. 5000 list of 5,000 fastest-growing U.S. companies.

O2, launched by Ohio State University alumni Dave Colina and OSU physician Dan Kim in 2014, makes high-performance hydration beverages for pro athletes and everyday workout warriors, according to its founder.

“O2 is a great drink made even greater by an amazing group of people,” Colina said. “Our roots are deep in the gym and CrossFit community, and we know we wouldn’t be here without our extended fitness family.”

O2 made headlines last year when it won the U.S. beverage industry’s award for best marketing campaign for an initiative in which the company donated 50% of its online profits to gyms struggling to survive in the face of COVID-19.

Colina admits he didn’t know if the plan would work, but he did know it was the right thing to do.

“It probably sounds like a cliche, but our core values are ‘Honesty, Humility, and Hustle,’ and we live by that. We knew we had to try and help, but it was scary.”

O2’s campaign-wide contribution to local gyms totaled $14 million in member-retention incentives, $177,000 in cash and gifts to gym owners, and $30,000 in community donations, a significant portion of which came from O2 partnerships.

Now, Colina and his team are working to keep the momentum going, and they feel the Inc. 5000 milestone is proof that putting people first is a viable business model – and a good example to set.

“No one can do it alone,” Colina said. “There’s so much hurt in the world right now, but we believe we can still make a difference if we work together.”

Bringing Older Adults Back to the Dinner Table

Now more than ever, we recognize the importance of human connection, but few realize how a lack of connection affects our daily behaviors, especially for older adults. In fact, a survey from Home Instead, Inc. found that older adults who eat most meals alone are more than twice as likely to be lonely, leading to a poorer diet compared to those who enjoy meals in the company of others.

Additionally, more than 35% of older adults experiencing loneliness and isolation graded their diet as a “C” or below. In turn, 29% described their health as fair or poor. As we begin to gather again in person, Home Instead encourages family and friends to share a meal with older loved ones. Not only will it strengthen relationships, but it likely will impact the quality of food seniors consume.

To improve mealtime habits and promote connection, Home Instead is introducing the Companionship Diet℠. This free program is designed to offer educational resources to make more informed nutritional choices, while demonstrating the health benefits of enjoying meals together.

“It’s no secret that eating a well-balanced diet becomes trickier with age, but the importance of proper nutrition for seniors simply cannot be overstated,” said Lakelyn Hogan, Ph.D., gerontologist and caregiver advocate at Home Instead, Inc. “Reimagine what meals look like by trying new recipes with a variety of ingredients. By preparing and enjoying meals together, you will experience the joys of quality time while also encouraging your loved one to maintain healthy eating habits.”

Included in the Companionship Diet program are recipes, tips and resources designed to inspire and educate seniors and family caregivers on how best to make nutritious choices. Taking the time to plan, prepare, cook and consume meals together is likely more meaningful to the older adults in your life than you may realize.

There are often physical, psychological and situational factors impacting the nutritional intake of older adults, such as health conditions leading to decreased taste, mood variations generating a loss in appetite or fixed incomes causing challenges to afford fresh foods. These factors demonstrate the importance of being there for your loved ones to observe these cues. The combination of nutrition and companionship is a recipe for healthy living. Hogan provides tips on how families can include older adults in mealtime:

  • Schedule regular mealtimes. Plan to get together weekly or monthly to enjoy a meal with older loved ones. Ask your loved one what ingredients they like and what dishes they prefer to involve them at every step. This will help keep seniors engaged and give them something to look forward to.
  • Plan simple and healthy meals. Check in with older adults before dinner and ask them to select a favorite recipe that you could make. Even better, ask them for their favorite childhood foods and incorporate them into mealtime. Meals should be balanced and include grains, fruits and veggies. Canned veggies can still be healthy and are a good alternative if fresh ones aren’t available. Remember to be mindful of portion size with seniors.
  • Involve your loved one in the preparation process. If they are up for it, ask your loved one to help with making the meal. Perhaps they can help mash the potatoes or frost the cake. If your loved one doesn’t want to help with meal preparation, he or she can sit and chat while you’re cooking and help provide instructions or share old family recipes and stories. These moments can serve as valuable bonding time.

Anyone can play a role in ensuring the aging population continues to feel connected as the pandemic wanes. With the Companionship Diet, Home Instead demonstrates the impact personal connections and casual conversations during mealtime can have on the physical and emotional health of older adults.

These resources, and additional information about the Companionship Diet, can be found at http://www.HomeInstead.com/CompanionshipDiet. Or get in touch with your local Home Instead office at homeinstead.com/locations.

Mental Training Coach, Dan Vitchoff Unveils New Olympic Gold Medal Winning ‘Original Mind Gym’ To Help Athletes Achieve Peak Performance

Vincent helped Hancock regain his brain to be ‘laser-focused’ despite any external noises or distractions.

Pittsburgh Mental Training & Performance Coach, Dan Vitchoff unveils new State Of The Art, ‘Original Mind Gym’ to help people train their brains to achieve greater success in their lives. Vitchoff is the founder of PA Hypnosis Center in Pittsburgh, PA where he helps a variety of clients with his ’33 Method’ which combines hypnotherapy with psychology, NLP (neurolinguistic programming) and brain wave technology to improve their health and quality of life.

Vitchoff is most well-known for his work with Olympic athletes where he has helped them mentally prepare for the single most important competition in their lives. One of Vitchoff’s athletes is three-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Vincent Hancock who recently made history in Tokyo becoming the first person to win 3 Olympic Gold Medals in Men’s Skeet.

Vitchoff’s ‘Original Mind Gym’ has been used to help elite athlete’s improve focus, concentration, eliminate distractions, reframe negative thoughts into positive and clearly visualize themselves winning Olympic Gold. Vitchoff believes that mindset is not fixed and that people can choose to train their brains to think, feel, act and respond to life if a more positive manner. He also believes that confidence and belief systems are key components to success. Something as simple as training your brain to believe that to FAIL means it is your First Attempt at Learning can help you become more resilient and make it easier for you to look at challenges as opportunities as opposed to road blocks. Essentially, Vitchoff is helping his clients ‘practice’ having a winning mindset. Just as one practices physical or technical skills to improve, it is imperative that one practices their “mental skills” or “mindset” as well.

Vitchoff’s Pittsburgh Based, PA Hypnosis Center has become a hot spot for athletes and non-athletes alike who are looking to make positive and significant developments in their lives and/ or career. Vitchoff teaches his clients how to “train their brains” to achieve success. Whether their goal is to win Olympic Gold, make the High School Basketball Team, Improve Sales Performance, Reduce Anxiety, Pass the Nursing Exam, Lose Weight or Quit Smoking; Vitchoff’s Nationally Acclaimed “33 Method” Mental Training Programs can help them “re-wire” their brains to achieve success just as naturally as it is for their lungs to breath and their heart to beat.

Vitchoff began working with Three Time Olympic Gold Medalist Vincent Hancock and the US Olympic Shooting Team in preparation for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China where Hancock won his first Olympic Gold. Before Hancock’s feet even landed on the ground in China, he and Vitchoff had performed mental training exercises that enabled Hancock to clearly visualize himself competing and winning a Goal medal at the 2008 Olympics. Vitchoff helped Hancock train his brain to be “laser-focused” despite any external noises or distractions. By the time Hancock had actually won Gold in Beijing, he had already “practiced” it in his mind thousands of times.

Vitchoff has continued to work with Hancock and the team to help them navigate the pressures of life, career and competition on a daily basis. Hancock openly talks about the challenges that he faced after winning the Gold Medal in Beijing. He says, “After the 2008 Olympics, I rode high for about two years. I won the World Championships the next year in Beijing. I made every final in 2010, but only won one medal. It kept slowly getting worse until I bottomed out in 2011.” He goes on to say, “I shot awful, it was the worst I’ve ever done.” Hancock was ready to quit. What Hancock was experiencing is not uncommon with elite athletes and performers; in fact, Simone Biles recently withdrew from two major Women’s Gymnastics events in the 2020 Tokyo Women Olympic Games citing “Mental Health” issues. Vitchoff explains, “These athletes literally and figuratively have the weight of the world on their shoulders.” He goes on to say, “even though I travel to work with athletes and business professionals on a regular basis, I needed to find a way for them to be able to practice their mental training on a daily basis. That is why I developed the Original Mind Gym.” Vitchoff is very excited to bring the ‘Original Mind Gym’ to Market so that more people can benefit from his ’33 Method Mental Training Techniques.

The ‘Original Mind Gym’ is designed to be the vehicle or avenue in which his clients can utilize his “33 Method” Mental Training Programs either at home or on the road. It is similar in concept to the Pelaton Bike, however, it is targeted specifically at training the brain. Vitchoff believes that having a dedicated tool such as the “Original Mind Gym” to focus on mental training and setting aside time each and every day to “train your brain” can be the difference between doing well and achieving excellence. ‘The Original Mind Gym’ is available at http://www.originalmindgym.com.

John Wallace SpeakWell Camp Helps Kids Build Physical, Mental and Social Emotional Skills Lost During the Pandemic

Retired NBA Player John Wallace works with Basketball Campers

“It’s important to teach leadership skills on and off the court.” – Patty Kennedy, Founder, SpeakWell

The COVID-19 pandemic kept students at home and online for months, impacting more than their academics. Studies show children were physically, emotionally and socially impacted by the isolation of the past year. As New York schools prepare to reopen after Labor Day, the John Wallace and SpeakWell Basketball and Leadership Camp heads into its third session at the Hardscrabble Club in Brewster, NY helping middle school students build those skills as they get ready for in-person school.

The John Wallace Basketball Camp was started by retired NBA player, and a first round draft pick for the New York Knicks, John Wallace – who last year had his #44 Syracuse University jersey retired, and the Al Morales Basketball Club. This year, John – who also serves as a role model for SpeakWell – an after-school program that teaches middle school students leadership, life and speaking skills, integrated the programs to help all students benefit from high-level physical, social and emotional skills, positive mindset and communication training.

“Playing basketball is more than just developing talents on the court,” said John Wallace. “From overcoming fear, developing a strong work ethic, finding your voice, mutual respect and teamwork – those skills serve you on the court and in life.”

“So many kids lose the confidence as they navigate the challenges of middle school and this is especially true as a result of the pandemic,” said Patty Kennedy, an international entrepreneur and speaker and founder of SpeakWell. “The program is a structured curriculum that focuses first on mindset, combines social and emotional learning with leadership skills training – including speaking and opportunities to demonstrate leadership. The combination helps students find their voice, gain a strong sense of self, work well together, and learn skills they need in school, sports and life.”

Part of the program includes “Real Talk,” where students engage in productive and respectful conversation and debate about real-world issues that impact them. They also engage with high-profile role models including professional athletes, actors, business leaders, scientists, and journalists who actively mentor the students. SpeakWell 7th-grade students became the first in the country from a K-8 school to each deliver TEDx talks, far exceeded 12th-grade speaking & listening standards, published national articles and have spoken alongside senior executives at international companies including UBS and BT.

The students’ reaction to the program? “It changed my life,” said 14-year old SpeakWell student, Zena Gardner – one of the first students from a K-8 school– and only girl – to deliver a TEDx talk. As part of the program, SpeakWell alumni mentor younger students.

As SpeakWell continues to expand its 8-week after-school programs across the country, the organization also will launch additional John Wallace SpeakWell basketball camps and introduce acting camps with actress Amy Hargreaves of Homeland and 13 Reasons Why – another SpeakWell role model

Interested schools, parents and organizations should contact info@speakwell.rocks to sign up.

About SpeakWell

SpeakWell is a public speaking and leadership program that builds strong, confident students who do better in school, sports and life and help one another. The program began with nine students and now serves more than 150 students across the country. The curriculum combines leadership and speaking skills training with social and emotional learning, offers unique opportunities to demonstrate leadership including TEDx talks, corporate panels and national writing opportunities, as well as a chance to engage with high-profile, diverse role models – including professional athletes, actors, business and community leaders. The organization also includes a non-profit arm that accepts donations and awards scholarships for students and schools in need.
