Olympic Hot Tub’s 5th Annual Founder’s Event, October 2021

Olympic Hot Tub kicks off its 5th Annual Founder’s Event. The event honors founders Alice Cunningham and Blair Osborn and their legacy of giving. This year, Olympic Hot Tub is raising funds for Pioneer Human Services. Pioneer empowers those coming out of incarceration and gives them a chance for change.

“Alice & Blair, both brilliant businesspeople, were passionate about a number of worthwhile causes. They shared a concern about the ever-growing plight of hunger and homelessness in our region and they recognized the importance of giving back,” said Olympic Hot Tub President Don Riling. “We are so pleased to help Pioneer Human Services in their mission to empower those re-entering society to live safe, healthy, productive lives through inspiration, affirmation and by overturning barriers.

Olympic will donate a portion of each Hot Spring Spa, Vita Swim Spa, Freeflow Spa, and Covana Automated Gazebo sale toward the Founder’s Event goal of $18,000. This donation to Pioneer Human Services will go directly to housing and job training… helping those in need build better lives.

Olympic encourages community members to donate directly to Pioneer Human Services, or a local charity of their choice. “Our company has always been focused on the health and wellness of our customers—one of the reasons we’ve adopted Better You…Better Life ™ as Olympic’s mantra. We think that everyone, regardless of their situation in life, deserves a chance for change. We’re hopeful our customers will agree and make our 5th Founder’s Event a significant contributor to Pioneer Human Services to help those in need,” said Riling.

Labels Create Barriers

We believe that words are powerful and can be very stigmatizing and harmful when used to label our citizens who are or were formerly incarcerated. Let’s be clear, the individuals are first and foremost human beings!

We all need to remember that people released from prison or jail share common and descriptive names with everyone else in society to include: grandparent, parent, son and daughter, extended family member, friend, neighbor, colleague, and employee. These are the only type of names that should ever be used to describe a person.

The Jenesis House Launches Crystal Candle Collection

News Image

Phoenix-based start-up, The Jenesis House, has answered the call for a renewed interest in self-care with the debut of its luxury crystal candle collection. Formulated from a blend of essential oils, 100% soy wax and a wood wick The Jenesis House Crystal candles will have what feels like an everlasting burn of up to 50 hours.

The collection’s candles are all non-toxic, vegan, cruelty-free, and are hand-poured by the creator herself, Creative Director Jenesis Laforcarde.

With the debut of the luxury candle line, Laforcarde is on a much bigger mission to operate the first Black female-owned wellness resort in Arizona for everyone to experience — especially people of color. According to the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators, and Developers (NABHOOD), less than 1% of all hotels are owned by African American women. When asked about her motivation for creating the candle collection, Laforcarde explained: “The Jenesis House is currently self-funded, so I wanted to launch a luxury candle line to help contribute to the thousands of dollars in startup costs to make this dream a reality.”

Keeping wellness and self-care at the forefront, those interested in making a smaller contribution can purchase candles from the collection at a cost of $65 each. Available in 3 enchanting fragrances: Cheque In, Cheque Out, and Cheque Ya Self. The candles are packaged in luxury glass jars available in crystal, rose gold, and matte black.

To help push the agenda forward, The Jenesis House has also launched a crowdfunding campaign that is hosted on ifundwomen.com a crowdfunding platform for women. The campaign goal is $500,000 and anyone can show their support by simply donating or pre-booking a heavily discounted 3-night stay at The Jenesis House for $1,500 for one person or $2,500 for two people. The reward night stays will feature a welcome bottle of champagne, complimentary spa treatments, and mediation time as well as an all-inclusive culinary experience.

Laforcarde is also offering complimentary refills on luxury candles for those who plan to visit the highly anticipated resort. For those that love the lavish candles and can not wait for the resort’s doors to open, Laforcarde is encouraging customers to send in their crystal candle jars for complimentary refills as well.

The candles are currently available for sale on the company’s website. To purchase a candle, get further information and updates on the new resort, visit: http://www.thejenesishouse.com.

Monster Energy’s Jack Moir Crowned 2021 Enduro World Series Champion in Scotland

Monster Energy’s Jack Moir Crowned 2021 Enduro World Series Champion in Scotland

“It’s insane, man! I just achieved something that I have dreamed of and have been working towards my whole life. It still doesn’t really feel real!” – Jack Moir

A battle to the finish! Monster Energy congratulates professional enduro mountain bike racer Jack Moir on claiming the 2021 Overall Elite Men Championship title in the Enduro World Series (EWS) in Scotland this weekend. In the Vittoria EWS Tweed Valley race, the 27-year-old from Morisset Park, Australia, battled injury and adverse conditions to finish the race in fourth place and become the new EWS Men’s World Champion with 4520 points in overall rankings.

“It’s insane, man! I just achieved something that I have dreamed of and have been working towards my whole life. It still doesn’t really feel real!” said Moir upon claiming his career-first EWS World Championship.

As the final highlight of the 2021 Enduro World Series (EWS) season, the Vittoria EWS Tweed Valley race was the biggest celebration of international mountain biking in the United Kingdom. Over the course of a long weekend, the event crowned new champions in men’s and women’s racing divisions, plus the electric bike category. Complementing the race action in the rolling hills of Southern Scotland, EWS Tweed Valley featured a full-fledged music and food festival.

The forest trails of Innerleithen and surrounding hills are hallowed ground for mountain bike racers. The terrain is notoriously twisted, demanding, and interspersed with steep climb sections. Adding to the challenge, intermittent rain created slick track conditions that kept riders on their toes all weekend.

Newly signed to Monster Energy’s pro mountain bike roster, Moir came to Tweed Valley after a season-long battle with American racing prodigy Richie Rude. With only 70 points on the leaderboard separating the two rivals, anything could happen in Scotland. Especially keeping in mind that Rude already made history as the first man to win back-to-back championship titles on the EWS.

In Saturday’s first Pro Stage race, the two riders finished just seconds apart, with Moir claiming the stage win on a 00:03:25.37 total time. But as it turned out, race officials found that Rude had failed to ride within the course markings, resulting in a disqualification that ended his championship run.

Recalling the first race day, Moir said: “My strategy for the weekend was to go in and do my best to keep the points lead. I was ready to battle on Friday, and had a good Pro Stage, taking the win.” When Rude was no longer competing for the overall title, it became clear that no other rider could mathematically take Moir’s top spot. “I then found out later that evening that Richie had been disqualified and I had won.”

With the title already secured, Moir continued to fight for the Tweed Valley race win during four stages on Sunday. But a hard crash and shoulder injury proved a severe setback. With Martin Maes finishing the weekend in first place overall with a 00:23:53.12 time, Moir placed fourth 00:34.05 behind.

When all was said and done, Moir’s impressive season performance – including five race wins – earned him the overall 2021 Enduro World Series Championship. The Australian took first place with 4520 season points, ahead of Richie Rude with 4015 points.

“The season was insane! It was a super tight back and forth battle with Richie every round. On top of this, I faced so much adversity, from food poisoning on a race weekend, to popping out my shoulder and mid race mechanicals. This made it that much sweeter though!”

This weekend’s EWS World Championship marks the biggest achievement in Moir’s career to date. Hailing from New South Wales, Australia, Moir first began racing motorbikes at the age of 4 and discovered mountain bike racing at 13. After turning pro in 2015, Moir became a force on the global downhill mountain bike circuit and claimed the 2016 Crankworx DH overall title. In 2020, he made the switch to racing enduro full-time.

Speaking on joining team Monster Energy, the newly crowned EWS World Champion said: “I’m pumped to be riding for Monster! It’s always been a dream growing up to be repping a Monster lid at the races. And they are always supporting such sick video projects outside of racing as well. So, I can’t wait to get something going on the content side of things.”

Now that the EWS season is officially over, what’s next for Moir? “Normally I would go home and go camping and surfing all off-season. But I’m going to have to get my shoulder fixed as soon as I’m out of quarantine. So probably a lot of chilling and rehab!” said Moir. The 2022 Enduro World Series (EWS) season will commence this coming June in the Tweed Valley, so stay tuned!

Advanced Training Athletic Club (ATAC) Releases Version 2.0 of its Revolutionary Training App with Significant Upgrades

ATAC App

With version 1.0, ATAC had launch metrics far above the industry average.

Earlier this year, Advanced Training Athletic Club made waves in the wrestling community and fitness tech market with the release of ATAC 1.0. After several months on the market and collecting critical user feedback, the company made substantial improvements to their training platform and recently announced the release of ATAC 2.0.

Founder and CEO Bryan Heller explains, “We anticipated our launch would perform well out of the gate, but we knew that quickly gathering feedback and giving our users the feature enhancements they were looking for was critical to early growth. Once we heard from athletes and coaches who regularly use ATAC, we immediately began reimagining our User Interface (UI) to enhance our User Experience (UX). Our design team did a great job bringing these ideas to an interactive prototype, and our engineers executed perfectly, as we brought that prototype to production.”

User acquisition is a critical first step to any successful business model. Getting customers to the app store listing, downloading the app, and signing up to complete the acquisition process are incredibly important.

Heller elaborates, “With version 1.0, ATAC had launch metrics far above the industry average. Our App Store Conversions (Unique Visits-to-Download) were 95.92%, compared to the Health and Fitness average of 42.8%, and over 80% of people who downloaded ATAC completed the sign-up process.”

Once customers are acquired, the percentage of users who come back regularly (retention) is a very clear indicator of whether the app will be successful.

Developing the first version of ATAC intelligence (Ai), ATAC’s proprietary scheduling AI, was one upgrade that immediately impacted user retention. Ai custom builds each user’s schedule of workouts and activities to help them reach their goals. User goals range from breaking the varsity lineup, to winning a High School State Championship, to becoming an NCAA National Champion, or joining the elite by winning an Olympic Gold Medal; all of which are on ATAC shareholder Jordan Burroughs’ list of accomplishments.

Heller explains, “Although we know there is always room for improvement, our early retention numbers are very encouraging. ATAC’s 1-week retention has averaged over 20% since ATAC 1.0 launched, more than double the 8.1% mobile app average, and we have seen peaks in our 1-week retention surpassing 30%. We are also pleased to see ATAC’s 30-day retention average hovering over 10%, nearly triple the 3.7% mobile app average. With month-over-month churn rates under 33%, we are confident in our ability to steadily grow our foundation of dedicated users.”

It was easy to identify that the greatest leak in the funnel occurred after signup but before users completed their first workout or activity. Therefore, ATAC went back to the UI drawing board. Eliminating friction during this initial phase of the UX would be a critical step towards greater retention.

The ATAC 2.0 development process was hyper-focused on minimizing the number of clicks and page navigations required between signup and users completing their first workout or activity. The click and page nav reduction dramatically simplifies the user journey and creates a much clearer roadmap for users to follow. With a brand-new home screen, a simplified calendar, more intuitive scheduling protocol, and an all-around visually enhanced design, ATAC 2.0 is slated to plug the leak previously identified and provide a fully immersive fitness platform unlike anything else on the market.

Heller says, “We look forward to once again getting direct user feedback and reevaluating our analytics as we continue to refine our platform. We are excited to enhance the training capabilities of ATAC with groundbreaking tech while simultaneously working to improve the overall flow of the app. We are most excited about rolling out our upgraded Ai features in the coming months. We have short term and long-term plans that we know will shake up the Tech Fitness space from corner to corner and redefine the impact a training app can have on competitive athletes and the average fitness junkie.”

About ATAC

ATAC is a breakthrough training app that helps competitive athletes achieve more in their sport. In collaboration with Olympic Gold Medalist Jordan Burroughs, ATAC’s proprietary AI: ATAC intelligence (Ai) builds custom schedules with workouts and activities for each individual user based on a 9-category Athlete Optimization Program. Users are guided through strength training programs, provided custom meal plans, trained to improve endurance and mentality, increase their flexibility and agility, better their technique, recover more efficiently, and reflect to focus on opportunities for improvement. SPIRE’s Growth Continues with Additions of On-Campus Marriott Hotel & Starbucks Cafe

Artist’s rendition of the Marriott TownePlace Suites together with an adjacent Starbucks coffee shop.

The new TownePlace Suites hotel and Starbucks will be meeting the needs of these visitors, for SPIRE itself, as well as the surrounding area.

In a unique partnership with SPIRE Institute & Academy (IA), Blue Ocean has announced plans to develop and construct an 89-room Marriott TownePlace Suites together with an adjacent Starbucks coffee shop, adding to their rapidly expanding Geneva campus.

Over one million people visit SPIRE’s world-class sports academy and event facilities each year, with demand growing for on-site hotel accommodations since it’s opening in 2012. Bill Monicelli, Director of Land Development for Blue Ocean explains, “Over the next few years, the I-90 corridor in Northeast Ohio will be growing and the SPIRE campus will be expanding as well. We predict that in the very near future, visitors to this area will double or even triple. The new TownePlace Suites hotel and Starbucks will be meeting the needs of these visitors, for SPIRE itself, as well as the surrounding area.”

“SPIRE is a world-class sports academy and event facility, while Marriott and Starbucks are both Fortune 500 organizations with the name recognition and respect that people appreciate,” Bill went on to say.

Both Marriott and Starbucks are world-renowned Fortune 500 brands that will be greatly enjoyed by SPIRE’s international population of students, event competitors, Olympic trainees and spectators. The community as a whole stands to benefit from all of the growing amenities on the SPIRE campus, as well as the impact on economic development through job creation and capital development.

Blue Ocean’s ability to create deep impact and value on the communities it serves is well known, and this latest growth opportunity is no exception. Targeting strong markets with “path of development” locations, they align themselves with trusted brands, and apply design-forward thinking to separate their properties from the competition, locking in long-term value for the local communities and their Partners.

President Jonathan Ehrenfeld of Blue Ocean states, “SPIRE is an exceptional resource to the global market of elite sports and is a prominent economic driver in and around the greater Cleveland area. The addition of these new resources on the SPIRE campus elevates our ability to bring more value to the local market and well beyond – further positioning SPIRE as the premier destination for top student athletes, Olympic hopefuls, sport camps, national competitions and more.”

Groundbreaking for both the hotel and the Starbucks store is expected to take place this November. The new TownePlace Suites is scheduled to be open sometime in the late fall of 2022, and the new Starbucks will be located at SPIRE Circle, right at the entrance to the athletic academy, along with a third retail business – yet to be determined.

The National Fisheries Institute Kicks Off Second Annual National Pescatarian Month

National Pescatarian Month is designed to help keep seafood top of mind with consumers, encouraging them to enjoy seafood at least two or three times a week, either at home or when dining out.

This month, the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) wants you to go pescatarian! Celebrating its second annual National Pescatarian Month, sponsored by its award-winning blog, Dish on Fish, the institute hopes to shed a national spotlight on pescetarianism, promoting a healthy lifestyle as well as sustainable fishing and seafood consumption practices.

Thanks to the NFI initiative consumers can now enjoy fish-centric meals with a little culinary assistance. As the sponsor of National Pescatarian Month, Dish on Fish will showcase nutritious, pescatarian-focused meal plans, along with tips for simple seafood prep and cooking on their blog throughout the month.

Following last year’s successful e-cookbook, “Everyday Seafood Recipes: 53 Quick & Easy Dishes,” featuring primarily pescatarian, original recipes for the home cook, Dish on Fish will be releasing new and interactive recipes as well as educational videos around seafood preparation and sustainability.

“Once again, the 2021 edition of ‘Everyday Seafood Recipes’ is a free resource for consumers to download directly from the Dish on Fish website,” explains Judy Dashiell, the senior vice president of the National Fisheries Institute. “Many of the book’s recipes utilize everyday pantry staples and we illustrate a lot of different techniques for preparing seafood—we even have pescatarian recipes for the slow cooker and air fryer!”

National Pescatarian Month is designed to help keep seafood top of mind with consumers, encouraging them to enjoy seafood at least two or three times a week, either at home or when dining out. The initiative’s goal is to bolster the existing efforts of many retailers, foodservice operators, and brands that market under the National Seafood Month umbrella.

Long celebrated as National Seafood Month, October now has an even stronger connection to seafood. With this second annual celebration, NFI plans to make seafood less intimidating, proving that it can be used in place of other, more common proteins, while being just as—if not more—delicious.

“We take a ‘give it a try this month’ approach with Pescetarianism. We’ll show how easy – and tasty – it is to swap out things like traditional burgers or tacos for a seafood version,” says Dashiell.

In addition to promoting educational material about National Pescatarian Month on their platforms, the NFI and its members have partnered with other seafood industry groups to help spread the word. Partners of the program will tout the various health benefits of pescetarianism with their respective audiences and celebrate the seafood-and-vegetable lifestyle.

“On our 20th anniversary as the voice and centerpiece of the active-aging industry, we reflect on our tremendous progress in uniting the formerly disparate group of professionals that serve the older adult community,” says Colin Milner, CEO of ICAA. “Our vision for the future focuses on the concept of healthspan – which emphasizes not only living longer, but also living better.”

According to “The Four Pillars of the New Retirement: What a Difference a Year Makes,” a June 2021 report by Age Wave and Edward Jones, full life expectancy includes two components: a healthy lifespan – the years lived in full health and free of disability – followed by approximately 12.4 years of expected poor health.

Expanding the healthy lifespan, or healthspan, not only improves individual quality of life and productivity, but also benefits society and grows the active-aging industry, which includes senior living communities, senior centers, health clubs, rehabilitation centers and aging organizations.

Wellness is the way

The critical foundation to increasing heathspan involves fully embracing wellness, which includes seven dimensions: emotional, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, vocational and environmental.

To support the industry, ICAA produces a wide variety of resources that promote aging well, such as proprietary research to inform the industry about best practices, trends and the current state of affairs. In fact, ICAA research findings have supported a financial return on wellness and a trend toward shifting from care communities that include wellness to wellness-based communities that offer care.

ICAA also leads executive think thanks that serve as expert counsel and guide rods to create solutions and drive the industry forward. And the organization’s conferences, initiatives and publications further facilitate collaboration, awareness and progress.

Furthermore, online education with certificate courses, virtual summits and webinars equips professionals in the retirement, assisted living, rehabilitation, fitness and wellness fields to foster thriving communities. Currently, ICAA is expanding its education arm to enhance offerings on what wellness is and how to build a wellness culture.

As the go-to source on active aging, ICAA works with the U.S. Administration on Aging, the National Institute on Aging, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the White House Conference on Aging, the Canadian Special Senate Committee on Aging, the European Commission and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Great expectations

Milner is enthusiastic about the next 20 years, as key trends are converging that support the expansion of healthspan. Among them: a growing health data economy, inclusive living models such as intergenerational communities and multigenerational housing, communities integrating into the larger society and more.

“The future is about building an even more robust foundation for wellness, continuing to drive change, and equipping organizations that serve older adults,” Milner notes. “Our vision is to create a world of healthier older people that are alive with purpose, inspired to live a rich quality of life and able to enjoy a fulfilled life.”
