New Book Uncovers Research Findings That Indicate That Fiber and Antioxidants Can Counteract the Effects of Junk Food

Junk food is so loved by many. What is not loved are the medical conditions and weight gain that it is associated with. Research findings have been made at various institutions across America and abroad. These findings have indicated that fiber and antioxidants can mitigate the health risks associated with junk food by counteracting the physiological effects of high-fat and other junk food. This does not mean that unlimited consumption of junk food won’t have consequences. What it does mean is greater freedom and a wider variety of food choices for healthy individuals. The scientific evidence has indicated that junk food can be counteracted by fiber and antioxidants in the following ways:


  • High-fat foods produce cholesterol-related acids that can clog arteries and raise cholesterol levels – opening the door to heart disease. Fiber counteracts that effect by nabbing cholesterol-related acids and removing them from the body, thus promoting healthy cholesterol levels and reducing the risk of heart disease.
  • The excess calories in high-fat foods are absorbed by the body and stored as fat, and can cause weight gain – opening the door to obesity. Fiber counteracts that effect by nabbing calories before they can be absorbed and stored as fat, thus making it harder to gain weight and reducing the risk of obesity.
  • High-fat foods increase the body’s exposure to “free radicals,” which attack and damage healthy human cells – opening the door to cancer, heart disease and many other conditions. Antioxidants counteract that effect by neutralizing free radicals, thus preventing and reversing cellular damage and reducing the risk of cancer, heart disease and many other conditions.
  • The excess calories in high-fat foods are absorbed by the body and stored as fat, and can cause weight gain – opening the door to obesity. Antioxidants counteract that effect by providing the body with the energy needed to burn fat more efficiently, thus making it harder to gain weight and reducing the risk of obesity.
  • High-fat foods can weaken the immune system. Excess fat and cholesterol interferes with the immune system cells’ ability to fight off diseases by impairing the ability of red blood cells to deliver oxygen to immune system tissues that depend on a good supply of oxygen and nutrients in order to fight diseases and keep the body healthy. Both fiber and the antioxidant “vitamin C” counteract that effect by promoting healthy blood levels of fat and cholesterol, thus strengthening the immune system by enabling red blood cells to deliver oxygen to immune system tissues.
  • Some of the best-loved smoked, salted and cured meats such as sausages, hot dogs and bacon are processed with chemicals known as “nitrites.” Nitrites can open the door to pancreatic cancer by breaking down in the body into carcinogens known as “nitrosamines.” The antioxidants “vitamin C” and “vitamin E” counteract that effect by neutralizing nitrosamines, thus helping to immobilize the cancer-causing process.
  • High-fat foods can trigger heart attacks by causing blood-clotting elements in the bloodstream known as “platelets” to become more adhesive and clump together, thereby triggering the formation of abnormal blood clots in the heart artery. Abnormal blood clots can eventually trigger heart attacks. Fiber counteracts that effect by speeding the mechanisms in which abnormal blood clots dissolve, thus decreasing the likelihood that abnormal blood clots will lead to heart attacks.

The HeroZona Foundation, in partnership with Andrew & Amy Cohn, is excited to announce that it will be distributing luxury Birdiebee activewear clothing to the community at UMOM New Day Centers, an organization that restores hope and rebuilds lives by providing shelter, services and affordable housing for people experiencing homelessness. The giveaway will take place on Saturday, June 25 from 8 to 11 a.m. at 3333 E. Van Buren St. in Phoenix and is open to the public.

“We are thrilled to receive this generous donation of brand-new clothing from HeroZona Foundation and Andrew and Amy Cohn,” said Jackson Fonder, CEO of UMOM New Day Centers. “UMOM is an organization that ends homelessness for families and single women in our community by providing programs and services that lead to a life of stability through employment and affordable housing. At the same time, we also focus on promoting self-worth, confidence, and dignity. This donation of quality clothing reinforces our approach, and we are so grateful.”

This is one of many giveaway events that the foundation and Cohn family have partnered on. In April of 2021, they distributed luxury Bota Hydration Backpacks to healthcare workers at COVID-19 vaccine and testing sites under the OneCommunity Initiative. During the OneCommunity Initiative events, the healthcare workers vaccinated thousands of people to help in the fight against coronavirus.

Thus, with this significant activewear donation, it is our hope to assist those in receipt of the activewear to remain motivated to not only take care of themselves, but to then be in a position to care for those they love, admire and support. Monster Energy’s Nyjah Huston Wins Street Skateboarding Contest at CPH Open 2022

The most legendary European skate contest is back! Monster Energy congratulates team rider Nyjah Huston on taking first place in the street skateboard competition at CPH Open 2022 in Copenhagen, Denmark, this weekend. In the official contest inside Royal Copenhagen Skatepark, the 27-year-old from Laguna Beach, California, took first place amid A-list pros.

From June 16-19, the grassroots skateboard event attracted hundreds of pro skateboarders from across the world to the Danish capital. In a festival atmosphere, CPH Open featured top-notch skateboarding in cash-for-tricks competitions at spots all over the city. The massive crowds witnessed some of the best skateboarding on the planet, supplemented by concerts and art exhibits with a wild energy that’s unique to CPH Open.

Started in 2007, CPH Open ranks among the most storied and authentic skateboarding events, right alongside Tampa Pro in the United States. As a real ‘skater’s contest’, the event celebrates the creativity and lifestyle at the heart of skateboarding, alongside the art and culture of the movement. After a brief hiatus in 2020 due to the pandemic, CPH Open returned stronger than ever in 2021 and all the stars were out for its 2022 edition.

The official street competition inside Copenhagen Skatepark featured a roster of A-list pros from across the world. The technical, wooden street course provided ample opportunity to get creative and technical.

Creative and technical happen to be Huston’s calling card! In his final run, the American street skater rifled off technical tricks such as nollie heelflip varial, switch frontside kickflip and Caballerial kickflip the kicker, nollie frontside heelflip lipslide, switch heelflip and switch frontside heelflip the gap to flat, huge frontside bigspin fakie the hip, half Cab crooked revert, half Cab kickflip noseslide, and switch heelflip frontside 5-0 the Hubba for the win.

In the Best Trick event presented by Independent Trucks on a rail-into-bank obstacle, Huston also shut down the contest and scored a few hundred dollars by putting down backside noseblunt slide, nollie heel backside lipslide, kickflip backside Smith grind, and huge frontside flip into the bank.

What else happened during CPH Open 2022? Tons of skateboarding and hijinks! Here’s some of the Monster Energy team’s action from Copenhagen:

For the official opening event, skateboarders attacked a series of street obstacles on The Red Plaza. The crowd witnessed tricks like Huston’s half Cab crooks revert and backside nosegrind to 180 heelflip up the shoebox ledge, as well as fakie kickflip into the quarter pipe and kickflip crooked over the hip. French team rider Aurelien Giraud from Lyon put down a hardflip revert over the hip. Crowd favorite and previous CPH Pro MVP Ishod Wair posted a perfect kickflip and nollie heelflip from deck into the quarter pipe.

On day two of CPH Open 2022, the crowd headed to the city’s concrete pool for Rune’s Bowl event. Hosted by Monster Energy team rider and skateboard icon Rune Glifberg, the event featured a Best Trick on Rail and Bowl session in a relaxed outdoors atmosphere. Danish vert skating legend Nicky Guerrero graced the contest with signature inverts and Madonnas in smooth style. Japanese rider and newly minted pro Mami Tezuka put down eggplant in the deep end, fast five-o grind tailslide and frontside airs. Upcoming rookie Liam Pace finessed a crooked to fakie into a Cab disaster as well as a huge Indy 540 nosebone and body jar. Australian rookie Kieran Woolley had the crowd on its feet with rare tricks like a frontside invert revert varial kickflip Indy, frontside 5-0 to fakie, and massive frontside air over the hip. When the dust settled, Woolley was pronounced as the winner of the event.

Later that day, the action moved to the outskirts of town for the Prison Yard Session in the former penitentiary known as Vridsløselille Prison. In the fully packed prison yard, skaters sessioned a wooden street course flanked by construction equipment as obstacles. Monster Energy’s Giraud went big by ways of 360 flip and backside 360 kickflip over the long kicker.

On the final day of CPH Open 2022, it was time for am skaters from 16 countries to shine in the Fælledparken Open Qualifier contest. This provided a chance to compete in the pro event at Royal Copenhagen Skatepark as the official finale of the entire festival, which Nyjah Huston shut down.

With so much non-stop action, CPH Open once again solidified its reputation as the “Champagne of Skateboarding”. Congrats to the Copenhagen Open crew in Denmark on yet another history-making event!
