NAI Manufactures New Box Builds for the Mining Industry

NAI assembles five different industrial-grade enclosures to house specific operational equipment: a main controller for a high voltage inverter, a DSP module, a power controller, the main controller for the inverter and a control unit for intrinsic mine safety.

NAI, a leading designer and manufacturer of custom interconnect solutions which deliver power and signals for monitoring data, connecting people and keeping equipment performing, has announced a new phase to a design and manufacturing project for large mining operations in China.

NAI manufacturing operations in Suzhou, China, had recently begun the development and manufacture of very complex cable harnesses for installation within large explosion-proof enclosures positioned in coal mines. Now, NAI is also installing these harnesses into various box build configurations. Each of these enclosures operates a different facet of a larger variable frequency drive and inverter system, and they are collectively installed within larger enclosures.

NAI assembles five different industrial-grade enclosures to house specific operational equipment: a main controller for a high voltage inverter, a DSP module, a power controller, the main controller for the inverter and a control unit for intrinsic mine safety. Each of various complex harnesses are installed within these enclosures, along with electronics and other components. The customer then installs these smaller enclosures into larger cabinets to house the main control system.

NAI products meet the requirements of the following tests, ratings or standards:

  • GB3836.2-2010 for explosive atmospheric conditions
  • High voltage test at 330V for power cable
  • Connectors are IP67 rated for resistance to dust and water

These cabinets control and operate variable frequency drives and inverters. These drives power and control conveyor belts, water and oil pumps, cooling fans, tape winding devices and brakes inside the mines.

In addition, they provide alerts and notifications for transformers, motors, cables and other components when they are not operating within the expected temperature range, voltage range or other parameters. All operational drives utilize NAI interconnect solutions for the transmission of control signals and essentially act as the nerve system for mining operations.

The customer for this mining project awarded the design and manufacturing of harnesses and box builds to NAI after producing the harnesses themselves internally. The company realized they were not as well suited to this kind of operation as NAI, and they ultimately preferred to focus on their main mining control equipment business and outsource this custom work to NAI. They acknowledged that, by using NAI, they reduced their quality risks and manufacturing lead times and they gained access to NAI’s global supply chain for advantages with various components.

NAI designs and manufactures custom rugged cable assemblies and harnesses for a variety of industrial applications for mining machinery, construction and agricultural equipment, robotics, machine tools, material handling equipment, instrumentation & control and other industries with demanding requirements. Broad design capabilities, a global manufacturing footprint, rigorous Quality Management Systems, along with the ability to make things happen very quickly, combine to make NAI a totally unique and attractive supplier for interconnect solutions.

AceUp Cofounders Will Foussier and Layla Lynn Honored by Forbes 30 Under 30 for their Company’s Support of Millennials and Gen Z in the Workplace

News Image

“Layla and I agree with former Google CEO Eric Schmidt’s assertion that ‘Everybody needs a coach,’” said AceUp CEO Will Foussier. “But we take this one step further and deeply believe that everyone deserves a coach.”

Global media giant Forbes has announced that Will Guillaume Foussier and Layla Lynn, cofounders of AceUp, provider of technology-enabled, one-on-one executive coaching, have been named to the 2020 class of Forbes 30 Under 30, the annual list chronicling the brashest entrepreneurs across the United States and Canada. Foussier and Lynn have been selected to the Enterprise Technology category for their innovative approach to executive coaching that Boston-based AceUp brings to the training and professional development market.

Given that Forbes’ theme for this year’s 30 Under 30 in Enterprise Technology is the future of work, it’s no coincidence that AceUp has found a home in this category. Foussier and Lynn are laser-focused on enabling the next generation of leaders to thrive in an environment of constant change. “Layla and I agree with former Google CEO Eric Schmidt’s assertion that ‘Everybody needs a coach,’ said AceUp CEO Will Foussier. “But we take this one step further and deeply believe that everyone deserves a coach. Coaching made all the difference for me in my own professional development, so we are working to extend that tremendous benefit to employees at all levels of the organization and at all stages of their careers.”

Foussier and Lynn launched AceUp in anticipation of the growing demand for leadership development among the rapidly rising Millennial and Gen Z populations, which will comprise at least 70 percent of the workforce by 2025. Their numbers are swelling at a time when executive leadership is acknowledging that power skills such as adaptability, time management, communication and collaboration, are in short supply and of greatest need. The recent IBM report, The enterprise guide to closing the skills gap, underscores this new perspective: Power skills now dominate the list of core competencies that global executives seek in employees, supplanting technical skills for the first time.

Lynn and Foussier see power skills development as a headliner on the executive leadership agenda for 2020. “Enterprises everywhere are recognizing the skills gap identified in the IBM report,” said AceUp Chief Product Officer Layla Lynn. “They understand that they have to invest in their greatest asset — their people — if they are to remain competitive in 2020 and beyond. Millennials and Gen Z are the next leaders of today’s companies, and our coaching platform gives them the personalized leadership development they need to thrive in their roles and take their companies to the next level.”

AceUp taps into today’s broad expectations among its target market of personalized product and service delivery by offering personalized, one-on-one executive coaching. AceUp utilizes a technology-driven framework that enables an end-to-end executive coaching deployment enterprise-wide and measures impact through progressive analytics. The company is democratizing one-on-one coaching to make it affordable and accessible across an organization.

Currently, the AceUp platform offers services from close to 500 premier executive coaches and counts over 40 companies among its clients, including LovePop, Rapid7, Boston Children’s Hospital and Ginkgo Bioworks among others. The company has raised $3M in funding to date and is well on its way to achieving aggressive growth goals to make one-on-one coaching widely available. Foussier and Lynn are confident that this notable recognition by Forbes will help them meet and then exceed their objectives.

About AceUp:

For companies that want to maximize their employee engagement, increase retention, and foster performance through a culture of continuous learning, AceUp delivers personalized executive coaching to connect employees with their full potential through a tech-enabled framework that is impactful, scalable, and measurable.

Cornell Dubilier Expands Capabilities in High Current AC Harmonic Filter Capacitors

Cornell Dubilier Inc. announced that it now offers 85 Ampere RMS ratings and numerous other enhancements to its PC series of AC harmonic filter capacitors. The series improvements include UL recognized construction and an internal pressure interrupter system that has passed the rigors of UL testing to ensure fail-open performance under high current fault conditions. The higher current ratings improve the capacitor’s ability to handle the high levels of harmonic content encountered in inverter AC input and output filtering applications.

The series is typically networked with inductors to filter out undesirable harmonics in both single-phase and three-phase AC power systems. As a two-terminal capacitor device, multiple PC series capacitors can be connected in delta or wye configurations to achieve the reactive power and harmonic tuning needed to filter out the unwanted frequencies. The presence of multiple harmonics puts additional stress on capacitors in the form of self-heating. The PC series is designed with robust terminations and low equivalent series resistance (ESR), to minimize heating. The service life objective of the PC series is 60,000 hours when operated at full rated voltage and a case hot spot of 70° C.

The PC series is offered with capacitance ratings ranging from 20 µF to 125 µF at voltage ratings from 300 Vac to 700 Vac. Case diameters vary from 63.5 to up to 116mm. Custom capacitance and voltage ratings, sizes and performance characteristics are also available. Specific application conditions, especially harmonic content profiles, are needed to properly size the capacitors for peak performance.

The PC series enhancements add capabilities to the broad range of AC harmonic filtering solutions offered by the company. These include three-phase cylindrical and welded rectangular cases used in large inverter systems. Cornell Dubilier also offers rack-mount systems, designed and fabricated in-house, to allow for easy integration of capacitor banks into the mechanical design of a filter system.

Top Cybersecurity Consulting Firm, Anchor Advisory of San Francisco Announces Second Post on Network Security Breach Issues

Anyone traveling for the holidays knows to take extra precautions and secure their home before leaving.

Anchor Advisory, the Bay Area’s leading firm for IT security services at https://www.anchoradvisoryinc.com/, is proud to announce a second blog post in its series on cybersecurity issues. The post alerts Bay Area businesses that corporate leaders should not underestimate the abilities of internet hackers. Cybercriminals search for opportunities to steal sensitive company information and destroy a company network 24/7. The holiday season, in particular, might be a perfect time for hackers to seek out weaknesses in company systems while employees are out for winter break.

“Anyone traveling for the holidays knows to take extra precautions and secure their home before leaving. Criminals are opportunists and know to look for signs that show no one is home. That’s the easiest time for them to test a household’s security and attack. The same idea applies to company networks,” explained George Fu, technical director at Anchor Advisory. “Hackers are very aware that company networks get quiet around the holidays and take advantage of the opportunity. Our cybersecurity experts are here to make sure they can’t get in.”

Interested persons can review the new post from Anchor Advisory about the value of cybersecurity consulting in San Francisco, CA, at https://www.anchoradvisoryinc.com/many-san-francisco-companies-are-in-technology-and-have-cyber-risk/. The post is second in a series about IT security and risk assessment. The first blog post is available at the following link https://www.anchoradvisoryinc.com/your-san-francisco-business-is-at-risk-from-hackers-yes-even-yours/. Bay Area corporate leaders interested in how to keep LAN/WAN systems safe from potential hacking can learn more at the cybersecurity page https://www.anchoradvisoryinc.com/cyber-risk-assessment/.

CYBERSECURITY CONSULTING: SMART SAN FRANCISCO CA COMPANY NETWORKS DON’T TAKE A HOLIDAY BREAK

Here is the background for this release. Company networks can experience a spike in activity from October through December. Corporate leaders might task departments with important projects due before Q4 closes. An in-house IT (Information Technology) team could be prepared to handle the added pressure until the holiday vacation. After employees leave for winter break, network use can dramatically drop off. The most significant risk to a corporate IT system could be a quiet, unoccupied building.

Cybercriminals might seize the opportunity to hack into a system when offices are empty. Executives may come back to work to find sensitive company data compromised. A cybersecurity consultant can help business leaders create a smart plan to defend an IT system against hackers. Various protocols, including cyber risk assessment, colo design, and network security audits, could identify and fix vulnerabilities.

Employees may take time off over the holidays, but IT systems can require 24/7 attention. A cybersecurity consulting team can help San Francisco, CA business networks remain secure during office closures. For these reasons, Anchor Advisory has announced a new post in a series of network safety topics.
