Yandex Helps Reduce E-Waste By Exchanging Smart Speakers for Old Tech

As a technology company that started providing consumer devices over the last few years, Yandex is committed to sustainability initiatives that reduce the amount of electronic waste created. Yandex appreciates the environmental hazards posed by the globe’s growing e-waste, and as they roll out new devices, they’re taking steps to try and reduce it. In October, on the first day of sales of the Yandex.Station Mini smart speaker, Yandex encouraged people to bring their older speakers to their official store to exchange them for a free Yandex.Station Mini.

For the speakers they received, Yandex partnered with a local recycling company in Russia who will disassemble the devices and recycle their components. Through this process, speakers that were mainly collecting dust in storage will go on to serve new uses. Their plastic will be used in the construction of windows, while the metal from the speakers will be sent to scrap metal recyclers. Copper smelters will receive part of the wires, while refineries will extract precious metals from the metallic elements that can’t be recycled. What can’t be reused or recovered from the speakers will be disposed of responsibly.

In response to the call for older speakers, over two thousand people lined up at the Yandex store with a variety of devices. The first thousand who arrived received Yandex.Station Minis, Yandex gave the rest credit towards the purchase of a Yandex smart speaker. Yandex awarded their larger smart speakers, Yandex.Stations, to those who exchanged the most extraordinary speakers, such as gramophones, radiograms, and custom built speakers. These unique items will be displayed in the Yandex museum in Moscow, allowing visitors to take a journey through auditory history.

As one of the companies bringing smart speakers to people’s homes, Yandex also wants to be a leader in helping people give new life to their older speakers. The company thanks everyone who helped keep speakers from piling up in landfills by bringing them to the Yandex Store, as well as their recycling partner for disposing of the speakers in an environmentally friendly manner.

Yandex hopes that, through this exchange program, people will continue to consider ways they can ensure their old electronics are recycled or reused. The company encourages other users to explore electronic recycling options in their area so that they, too, can help create a more sustainable world.

AV500™, the new imager by Datalogic

Datalogic introduces the AV500™ imager, an innovative 2D image-based barcode reader developed for sorting applications. The new imager solves high speed applications in retail e-Commerce, postal/parcel sortation and airport baggage handling, covering all conveyor sizes, as well as static reading applications.

Fast and secure sorting of objects with different dimensions – even irregular – are the challenges that CEP’s, e-Commerce and airports are facing today. With its dynamic autofocus and its innovative optical technology, the AV500 imager is combining flexibility with reliability to solve such demanding applications. Since codes are captured multiple times under the reading array, excellent reading performance for damaged or plastic covered codes can be achieved. This results in an effective increase of throughput volume by 50% versus other traditional 2D imager-based solutions.

The AV500 is equipped with a high resolution 5 MP CMOS sensor, image acquisition up to 32 frames per second, dynamic, sequential, or adjustable focus, and multiple lens options, creating a new optical standard for automatic data capture solutions. For making manual reading processes such as overhead scanning or manual conveyor loading user friendly and fast, the imager can work with continuous frame acquisition, avoiding any user disturbance from-flashing white or red integrated illumination. In addition, successful reading processes are indicated visually by means of the patented “Green Spot” technology.

The Datalogic PACTRACK™ software allows the AV500 imager to increase the system productivity and traceability, enabling multiple packages and barcodes to be read in a single picture, and properly assign the correct barcode to the correct package with minimal package spacing.

Where needed, customers can manage all the AV500 imagers in a system remotely, through Ethernet IP. The installation and configuration are made easy with multi-language, browser-based, on board HTML web server interface and integrated aiming lasers. High speed dedicated GigE port for image transfer provides an unsurpassed image saving performance without impacting read rates or data acquisition, perfect for OCR applications.

The AV500 imager can be seamlessly integrated with other Datalogic high performance readers, enabling game changing performance in hybrid solutions. This makes the AV500 a perfect fit for dimension, weigh and scan systems, high speed sortation systems and automated baggage handling systems.

SANITRON® UV Water Purifiers Have Been Granted NSF Certification

Atlantic Ultraviolet Announces NEW NSF Certification for SANITRON Ultraviolet Water Purifier Lines

Atlantic Ultraviolet Announces NEW NSF Certification for SANITRON Ultraviolet Water Purifier Lines

This certification assures the public that NSF®/ANSI 61 and 372 SANITRON® models have met strict standards

Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation® (AUV) announces receipt of NSF® International certification for 3 of its SANITRON® ultraviolet water purifiers, for compliance with NSF®/ANSI 61 and 372 – Drinking Water System Component- Health Effects and Lead Content. SANITRON® Models S37C, S50C, and S2400C are capable of handling 12 gallons per minute (GPM) to 40 GPM while providing bactericidal treatment of water. To view Atlantic Ultraviolet’s NSF UV Water Purifier certification for its SANITRON® line, visit the NSF®/ANSI 61 and 372 certification pages. To shop or get more information about the SANITRON® product line, visit BuyUltraviolet.com.

COO of Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation®, Ann Wysocki, comments on the value provided through this certification:

“NSF UV Water Purifier certification gives our customers-and the public-assurance that SANITRON® Ultraviolet Water Purifiers purify their drinking water the way Atlantic Ultraviolet states they do. This certification assures the public that NSF®/ANSI 61 and 372 SANITRON® models have met strict standards. Consumers can trust that correctly installed and maintained models perform as stated.”

In 1944, NSF® International formed with the mission to protect and improve global human health. They continue to set the standard for consumer products that affect public health and safety. NSF® International is an independent organization accredited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Accreditation Service (IAS). Products granted NSF®/ANSI Certification must pass rigorous initial testing as well as undergo regular re-testing and unannounced on-site inspections.

NSF®/ANSI 61, a set of national standards relating to water treatment, sets health effects criteria for many water system components. It establishes stringent requirements for the control of equipment that comes in contact with either potable water or products that support the production of potable water.

NSF®/ANSI 372 was set to establish procedures to meet the 0.25% lead content requirement of the RLDWA (Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act), using a wetted surface area average calculation or simply using all no-lead materials for areas in contact with drinking water. NSF®/ANSI 372 includes a broader scope of drinking water products covered by the law, which may not be covered under NSF®/ANSI 61 and enables large or complex products and assemblies to achieve certification.

Atlantic Ultraviolet’s SANITRON® S37C, S50C, and S2400C water purifiers (12 GPM to 40 GPM) have been tested and certified to NSF®/ANSI 61 and NSF®/ANSI 372. Model S2400C can be used in modular form to build larger models. All SANITRON® models are engineered and manufactured in the USA from U.S. and imported parts, using 316 stainless steel and the highest quality materials. Models come with five standard features and numerous optional accessories that provide safe, rapid, and economical water treatment for a variety of applications.

SANITRON® NSF® UV Water Purifier Standard Features Include:

1.    WIPER MECHANISM: Patented, dual-action wiper mechanism facilitates periodic cleaning of the quartz sleeve without interruption of purifier operation. No disassembly required. Complies with U.S. Public Health Guidelines.

2.    REMOVABLE FLANGED HEAD: Purifiers disassemble completely and easily in the event that repairs are necessary. No special tools or fixtures required.

3.    QUICK LAMP CHANGE: Exclusive EASY-OFF™ End Cap enables effortless lamp replacement without shut down of water pressure or drainage of tank. No tools required.

4.    SIGHT PORT PLUG: Visible glow (that is easy to see) provides a positive indication of germicidal UV lamp operation.

5.    DRAIN PLUG: Convenient, in-place drainage of purifier chamber.

SANITRON® applications can/may include homes, apartments, swimming pools and spas, water wells, cisterns, catchments, aquariums and ponds, hospitals and healthcare centers, food and beverage processing plants, ships, electronics, pharmaceutical facilities, cosmetic manufacturing facilities, restaurants, campgrounds, farms, boats, and recreational vehicles. Applications are plentiful. For more details about the features and uses of the SANITRON®, visit this page or call 631-273-0500.
