The ChannelPro Network Announces Its Inaugural Peer of the Year Award

The ChannelPro Network has named Joanna Sobran, president and CEO of MXOtech in Chicago, as the inaugural winner of its Peer of the Year award.

Each month during the calendar year, ChannelPro invites a successful MSP, value-added reseller, or solution provider to share his or her story in the Peer to Peer feature that runs in the digital and print issues of ChannelPro-SMB magazine. The column provides actionable advice on topics such as growing a business, improving operations and service delivery, developing new lines of business, hiring and retention, building sales and marketing strategies, and creating and nurturing corporate culture.

All 12 stories in 2019 were considered for ChannelPro’s inaugural Peer of the Year award by the publication’s editors, who selected the one they believe readers could learn the most from and immediately apply to their own business. Sobran’s story outlines the hiring and retention process she uses, which has helped grow her IT managed services business to more than $5 million.

“Joanna’s story details a recruitment and hiring process she developed that honors the firm’s core values and embraces diversity and inclusion,” says Rich Freeman, executive editor of The ChannelPro Network. “Hiring and retention remain top challenges for IT business owners who face a tight labor market as well as a skills gap. Joanna shares sound and creative strategies that have helped her grow MXOtech, and which readers could adapt for their own businesses.”

Sobran, who came from Poland as a child with her parents, founded MXOtech, a 100% woman-owned business, in 2005. She began her career in the healthcare industry working for two successful women entrepreneurs and later moved into IT recruiting, combining her healthcare and technology business expertise. Her knowledge of these two practice areas, along with her business development and recruiting skills, became the foundation on which she built her own successful company.

“My favorite part of owning a business is matching people with their dream job, watching them make an impact, and building a great company together,” Sobran says. “Through our training program, we have changed the lives of individuals from underserved communities and foreign countries so they can do what they love while providing for their families. This is why I get up every day excited to continue our journey.”

MXOtech has been recognized as one of the nation’s fastest-growing outsourced IT companies by Inc. Magazine’s “Inc. 5000” list. MXOtech healthcare applications have also been nominated for Innovation Awards and adopted by Fortune 1000 companies. Most recently, the Women’s Business Development Center in Chicago presented Sobran with the Deborah Sawyer Rising Star Award. Visit http://www.mxotech.com

“The ChannelPro Network is honored that Joanna chose to share her story with our readers, and we are pleased to present her with our first-ever Peer of the Year award,” says Michael Siggins, president and publisher of The ChannelPro Network. “The competition was fierce, as all of our Peer to Peer stories last year were compelling sources of insight and inspiration for our readers.”

For 2020, ChannelPro will be expanding the Peer of the Year selection process to include nominees from the ChannelPro audience of readers and vendors as well as from our 12 Peer to Peer stories featured throughout the year. Interested parties can send nominations to: peer2peer@channelpronetwork.com.

Announcing Launch of ZBOSS Open Initiative (ZOI) for Royalty-Free Zigbee® PRO Stack Software

DSR Corporation announces the launch of a community for Zigbee® PRO software platform, ZBOSS Open Initiative (ZOI), which aims to provide a collaboration for IoT market players with a proven, reliable, and highly interoperable Zigbee® software protocol stack, along with the required development tools and infrastructure to establish a solid ground for effective joined work on the unified Zigbee® PRO software platform.

One of the main challenges currently facing the IoT market is to achieve interoperability across the vast ecosystem of smart devices and manufacturers. The key solution to this problem is a shared software platform, utilized and maintained by chipset vendors and consumer product companies, in a collaborative environment. This joint effort will greatly reduce compatibility issues and simplify development for manufacturers, while providing the opportunity to optimize R&D costs and decrease time to market for products.

DSR Corporation will share its market-proven ZBOSS stack source-code base with ZOI members and provide all the necessary, modern tools and support to make it easier for participating companies to integrate new chips and consumer products. Joined efforts will allow for the development of a unified software platform for Zigbee®-enabled smart devices and make it the most interoperable solution on the market.

ZBOSS is a Zigbee Alliance certified, hardware agnostic, cross-platform, high-performance Zigbee® software protocol stack developed by DSR Corporation. ZBOSS features cross-platform support, multi-tasking, fixed memory footprint, OS-less configuration, and easy-to-use API. It is an official Zigbee® stack for Nordic Semiconductor and ON Semiconductor and also supports multiple SoCs, MCUs and transceivers from Texas Instruments, Silicon Labs, Qorvo, ARM, Telink, UBEC, Microchip, and other chip vendors. Moreover, multiple Zigbee® 3.0 certified products are powered by ZBOSS. Over 200 smart devices from more than 40 vendors were tested successfully for interoperability with ZBOSS.

With validation and support from several silicon vendors and product companies, DSR Corporation is excited to launch ZOI on February 7th, 2020, but interested parties can join before the official launch by contacting DSR Corporation. ZOI is just one of the steps to provide a common Zigbee® PRO software platform to address the current market needs.

West Monroe Partners and Con Edison Recognized for Creating One of the 10 Best Intranets of 2020

Creating a modern, digital workplace is not just about technology. A vital first step in this process is developing a very thorough understanding of how employees work and how they work together.

West Monroe Partners, a national business and technology consultancy, today announced that Con Edison’s new intranet, “Conor,” has been recognized among the top 10 intranets of 2020 by Nielsen Norman Group. The redesigned intranet, first introduced to employees in February 2018, is featured in detail in Nielsen Norman Group’s new report, Intranet Design Annual 2020: The Year’s 10 Best Intranets.

West Monroe and Con Edison, one of the nation’s largest investor-owned energy-delivery companies, collaborated to develop Conor. The intranet brings more than 15,000 employees across several utility subsidiaries together in one modern, digital workplace that promotes the company’s safety, engagement, operational excellence, and customer service goals. Its many new features include enhanced search and navigation capabilities, a standard look-and-feel, the ability to personalize content by role and municipal borough, and redesigned employee communications, as well as digital forms that streamline work.

“Our intranet serves people in diverse roles, so it is important that it offers a flexible and fluid way to surface content that is highly relevant to users and targets communications to the right groups,” said Lionel Ing, Con Edison’s project sponsor. “In addition to helping us achieve critical business goals, modernizing our workplace will save on costs by reducing the time employees spend locating tools and information, employing standard templates to develop departmental content and sites, and introducing new digital forms with automated workflows.”

Most Con Edison employees use Conor every day. Satisfaction with the new intranet increased 30% following the launch. Additionally, search utilization increased by 50%, enabling greater employee self-service and engagement. Through the project, Con Edison reduced intranet content from more than 1,200 pages to just 120 pages.

West Monroe and Con Edison designed Conor for employees, first and foremost. They relied on agile principles to design and deploy Conor and targeted four prime user personas to guide the development effort.

“Creating a modern, digital workplace is not just about technology. A vital first step in this process is developing a very thorough understanding of how employees work and how they work together. This guides thinking about how the new intranet solution could help create a more productive, connected, empowered, and engaged workforce,” said Kaumil Dalal, director in West Monroe’s Technology practice. “Another factor that contributed to the project’s success was Con Edison’s commitment to a comprehensive change management approach that targeted adoption and buy-in from the Corporate Affairs team and departmental content managers and authors, as well as employee users of the site.”

The project team developed Conor on the SharePoint platform, serving as a portal to other internal systems, various external services relevant to employees’ daily work, and other collaboration sites.

“Con Edison has embraced the fact that, in this industry at this time, like in other industries, winning in the marketplace starts with winning in the workplace,” said Paul A. DeCotis, senior director and leader of West Monroe’s East Coast Energy & Utilities team. “In our recent study, more than 60% of utility industry employees indicated their workplace technology needs at least some updating. Taking bold steps to modernize the workplace, as Con Edison has, not only strengthens operations today. It creates an environment that can attract the talent and emerging digital skills that utilities need for the future.”

Nielsen Norman Group chose the winning intranets through an expert review, based on design and usability, from an international field of dozens of submissions.

vFairs Launches Feature-Rich JOB BOARD to Eliminate All Manual Efforts

We identified this problem time and time again with the several customers who conduct virtual job fairs for us and with our job board product, we aim to lay these obstacles to rest – once and for all.

After leading the market as a top-rated online event platform, vFairs continues innovating to address pain points in the recruitment sector. vFairs has revamped its Job Board offering with a new look and feel, and brand new feature set designed to solve issues such as data entry that universities have historically struggled with.

When implementing a job board, universities and colleges have to assign resources to either chase down employers to keep updating their jobs or manually copy over the latest job listings and expire closed ones. For a number of organizations, this challenge becomes an obstacle in adopting job boards. However, vFairs aims to solve this with a unique solution.

With every job board instance, vFairs also offers a scraping service to automatically harvest job postings from career sites of partner employers and publish them on the job board. Universities simply indicate who their affiliated employers are or share consolidated Excel sheets, and vFairs takes care of the rest. This eliminates the typical hassle university representatives face and their work is reduced to minimal moderation tasks.

Here are other highlights of the vFairs job board platform:

  • The Job Board remains live throughout the year and isn’t dependent on the core product (virtual job fairs). This expands opportunities for both employers and candidates to recruit and apply for positions all-round the year.
  • Job seekers can have access to job descriptions, save jobs, and apply with just a few clicks. They can also choose to set up alerts for upcoming jobs, eliminating their chance to miss out on an opportunity.
  • On the other hand, employers can advertise vacancies and access applications, not just for their posted jobs, but also for the entire resume database present on the job board.

“We understand that Career Services focus on facilitating the connecting between top employers and their student base but don’t have the liberty to spare resources to drive a technological product and operations. We identified this problem time and time again with the several customers who conduct virtual job fairs for us and with our job board product, we aim to lay these obstacles to rest – once and for all,” says Muhammad Younas, CEO at vFairs.

About vFairs: vFairs is a top-rated Virtual Event Platform that enables and equips organizers to make strong, valuable connections with their target audience. Ensuring their virtual event delivers the results that customers desire, vFairs has been succeeding in providing an alternative to physical events such as job fairs and career fairs to leading companies and universities like Nestle, T-Mobile, American Public University System (APUS), Rasmussen College, Tulare County Office of Education (TCOE), University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and many others.

“We founded EconoFact on the premise that there is both a need, and a desire, for quality, non-partisan resources that inform the public about the most important economic issues of our time,” said EconoFact Founder and Executive Editor Michael Klein, who is also a professor at The Fletcher School.

EconoFact, a non-profit media initiative published by the Murrow Center for a Digital World at The Fletcher School at Tufts University, is pleased to announce that it was awarded a $50,000 grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The grant will be administered by Tufts University, and will help to expand the scope, exposure and distribution of its non-partisan economic analyses.

EconoFact has assembled a network of more than 90 economists across the United States to contribute their expertise on timely economic policy issues, ranging from education and immigration to criminal justice and climate change. EconoFact shares this expertise through written memos, videos, and its Data Point series of compelling statistics to make the information and ideas accessible to a general audience. Since its inception in January 2017, EconoFact has achieved more than one million page views, developing a strong following among researchers, academics, government analysts and the media. In this respect, EconoFact aligns with the Sloan Foundation’s mission by serving as a resource for thought leaders, as well as the wider public, who want access to informed, expert opinion without a political slant.

“Through the leadership of Professor Michael Klein, EconoFact has demonstrated how collaboration in our community can have real-world impact on important policy discussions,” said Rachel Kyte, Dean of The Fletcher School. “We are excited to have the opportunity to expand this effort thanks to the generosity of the Sloan Foundation.”

EconoFact’s contributors, several of whom have served in policy positions such as chief economists in the U.S. Treasury and Labor Departments, as well as in leading roles in academia, are not financially compensated. They choose to participate in the initiative out of a sense of civic responsibility and a desire for civic engagement.

“We founded EconoFact on the premise that there is both a need, and a desire, for quality, non-partisan resources that inform the public about the most important economic issues of our time,” said Prof. Klein, EconoFact’s Founder and Executive Editor. “We are pleased with the response to our efforts, and look forward to continuing to grow this initiative with the help of our generous supporters.”

Mr. Nahari presented the idea to Chairman Attorney Avi Himi, who then launched it and has brought it to fruition. This committee will follow the mandate that other committees operate with work being performed at no charge. The committee will be the liaison between the elected officials of the Bar association, the senior executives and the rank and file attorneys as it pertains to the practice issues.

Attorney Sharon Nahari brings to the committee his experience and expertise as an attorney that has specialized in the two important areas of law being white-collar crime and overall criminal lawyer with a special interest in extradition and international crime. Added to Attorney Sharon Nahari’s credentials is his appointment as Israel’s representative, where he attended the DELF Forum special conference in this capacity. This Defense Extradition Lawyers Forum was held in London for the purposes of the discussion of the elimination of Interpol arrest warrants, and Red Notice alerts. Other important topics were discussed such as politics and international extradition connections.

Attorney Nahari has indicated that the forming of this new committee is a clear indicator of how important international and extradition laws governing Israel have been in the past. The participation between countries worldwide via collaboration has been successful in expanding enforcement collaborations on economic, technological and trade levels.

The state of Israel and International Treaties – Extradition Laws

The state of Israel is proud of its involvement in the international treaties on extradition laws that encompass conventions such as the Palmero Convention (Convention on Organized Crime) the UN Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Vienna Convention).

The international treaties also include the laws for various international crimes such as taxation, cyber-crimes — the laundering of money, and computer crimes.

The state of Israel is one of the UN member states, and as such works closely with the UN Police Intelligence Organization (Interpol).Beyond this is the State’s working relationship via bilateral treaties with other countries such as Australia, Thailand, the US and Canada and others for fighting crime.
