Acadia POS and GCG Consulting Ensure Over 50,000 Successful Transactions on PAX E700 and A920s at Waste Management Phoenix Open

…PAX makes setting up POS systems as easy as deploying payment terminals…

Acadia POS and GCG Consulting Inc. collaborated to provide point-of-sale software services that ran transactions on PAX Technology’s smart devices, the E700 and A920, at this year’s Waste Management Phoenix Open. The Open is one of the premier golf events in the country and boasts over a half million attendees. With nearly 50,000 transactions on 77 devices processed via the Acadia POS quick-service application, Acadia POS proved itself a robust, easy-to-implement solution for a high-volume atmosphere—giving vendors a 360-degree bird’s eye view of every detail, such as best-selling items and daily transactions.

In addition to the main golf event, a concert/party in the Scottsdale area known as The Bird’s Nest was held. The Acadia software was used on E700’s throughout the event while famous artists such as Warren G, G-Easy, Miranda Lambert, Cody Johnson, and Austin Burke performed on stage. Device setup was smooth and hassle-free as a result of management by local company GCG Consulting, who has been doing the event for years and knew what to expect. Acadia was well-prepared, and the solution was easy enough for GCG to manage everything on their own with light support from Acadia when needed.

ISOs Find New Opportunities

The success demonstrated from this year’s Phoenix Open offers hope to ISOs struggling to find alternative solutions to meet the unique needs of their clients. Recent changes in the payment processing industry have left ISOs in the dust. Once popular gateways such as MerchantLink have been acquired by larger processing companies and, consequently, shut down.

Greg Gooslin, President of GCG Consulting Inc. says, “Acadia POS solves this problem by positioning its partners to maintain and grow their merchant portfolios, while providing them with a powerful point-of-sale solution to manage their daily business operations.”

PAX: Smart Devices Today for Commerce of Tomorrow

The seamless collaboration between Acadia POS, GCG Consulting, and PAX devices allowed users to be able to experience the future of commerce, as PAX Smart Devices are several years ahead of other payment terminal manufacturers who are just now starting to understand the trend.

“PAX’s smart devices have allowed Acadia to scale rapidly, without having to onboard a whole team specifically dedicated to a single event. PAX makes setting up POS systems as easy as deploying payment terminals,” says Ken Schember, VP of Middle Market & ISV Solutions.

With the help of advanced smart devices from PAX, Acadia and GCG Consulting showed the power of mobile commerce technology. ISOs now have an opportunity to collaborate with Acadia POS & PAX to transition their merchants from basic terminals to smart terminals. By focusing on partnerships, Acadia continues to develop synergies with ISOs and provide solutions for individual agent offices and smaller POS dealers.

About Acadia POS

Acadia POS is a modern solution built from the ground up with the collaboration of engineers, merchants and ISOs. Originally a browser-based point-of-sale, Acadia has transformed into an omni-channel solution that can be implemented by low and high-volume establishments. Acadia is marketed and sold primarily to small to medium size businesses but has recently proven itself to be powerful enough for large enterprises.

New Mathematically Lossless Video Compression IP Cores Announced by Hardent

Mathematically lossless video compression IP cores by Hardent

See a live demo of Hardent’s lossless video compression technology at embedded world 2020

Lossless video compression offers a unique, cost-effective solution to manage the sheer volume of data collected by next-generation vehicles.

Hardent, a leading provider of video compression IP products, today announced the forthcoming availability of its new mathematically lossless video compression IP cores. Hardent’s lossless video compression (HLVC) technology offers mathematically lossless compression specifically designed to facilitate the challenges associated with capturing, processing, storing, and playing back large amounts of raw data from automotive image sensors.

Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as lane departure warnings, collision avoidance, and emergency braking systems, have become increasingly common in recent years. As the automotive industry moves towards autonomous driving, ADAS will be a key safety component of fully autonomous vehicles. ADAS collect data from a number of different sources including sensors, LIDAR, and cameras in order to build a picture of a car’s surroundings and react accordingly. This results in a huge amount of data collected, which is then brought together in the fusion electronic control unit (ECU). In the case of an autonomous vehicle, the captured data needs to then be transmitted, stored, processed, and analyzed, without altering the original data captured in any way.

Developed by Hardent’s in-house R&D team, HLVC uses an innovative compression algorithm to deliver compelling compression ratios, while preserving a bit-exact representation of the original data. Using Hardent’s lossless compression enables designers to reduce their overall storage space and memory footprint, lower transfer bandwidth on transmission links, as well as reduce the overall power consumption of their design. “Lossless video compression offers a unique, cost-effective solution to manage the sheer volume of data collected by next-generation vehicles,” says Alain Legault, VP IP Products at Hardent. “Our mathematically lossless IP cores have been extensively tested and verified to ensure true mathematically lossless compression for use in an automotive environment.”

Key features of Hardent’s mathematically lossless IP cores include:

  • Support for a wide variety of raw data formats
  • A small footprint for FPGA & ASIC design
  • Ultra low-latency performance
  • Real-time encoding/decoding capabilities for both FPGA and ASIC design
  • A software option for real-time and faster than real-time encoding/decoding

Hardent will be showcasing the first live demo of its HLVC technology at embedded world in Nuremberg, Germany. Participants will have the opportunity to see the compression ratios generated from both real-life camera captures and computer-generated images. Visit Hardent at PLC2’s demo spot in Hall 4, stand 560.

Ebemate Launches Bella, the AI-Enabled Baby Monitor Increasing Peace of Mind for Parents

News Image

Bella provides the technology to help parents rest at night, work during the day and keep a watchful eye on their little ones with ease.

Bringing home a new baby is challenging, but Bella, the AI-enabled baby monitor from Ebemate, launches today on Kickstarter to bring parents peace of mind. Harnessing the latest in AI technology, Bella monitors a baby’s movement, soothes an unsettled child and offers video surveillance from any connected smartphone. Rest easy, trusting Bella to provide the extra set of eyes every parent desperately needs.

“Having a baby is a wonderful, but scary time for every parent,” said Paul Nicoll, creator of Bella. “Bella provides the technology to help parents rest at night, work during the day and keep a watchful eye on their little ones with ease.”

The safety of a baby is top priority for Bella. As a child grows and reaches milestones, including rolling over and crawling, Bella is there every step of the way. Face cover detection sends an alert to the parent’s smartphone should the baby’s face become covered, or if they roll over to their stomach and appear stuck. Important for very young babies.

Once a child is crawling, parents can designate safe and danger zones that allow the child to move about within reason. Parents are alerted when the child leaves safety zones or enters danger zones. Bella is the eyes in the back of the head every parent needs.

Differentiating between fussiness, cries and screams is important when deciding how to respond to a child in the night. Bella detects these different noises and employs a soothe assistant to activate a “breathing” night light that pulses softly creating a calming effect. It also plays a pre-recorded message from mom or dad, or a lullaby to calm a restless child so everyone can get back to sleep.

Parenting comes with tremendous moments that should be captured and remembered. Never miss a moment as Bella captures HD photos and videos hourly as babies smile and move. A baby album stores up to 180 days worth of photos!

An accompanying app provides complete control of Bella from anywhere. Once parents are back to work, they can still keep tabs on their child at home. Panoramic cameras and two-way audio make it easier than ever for parents to see and interact with their children, even from afar.

Bella is available to pre-order on Kickstarter starting at $149 by visiting the campaign page at pr.go2.fund/bella.

Hybrid composite cables are becoming very popular due to their ability to extend distances for data and power cable runs beyond the standard limits of PoE cables (100 meters or 328 feet). The flexibility of running longer distances and the cost savings associated with needing fewer or no electrical power outlets are the key benefits driving the growth in demand for these cables.

Remee responded to this demand with their new Activate™ Powered Cable Solutions, a series of composite and Siamese fiber and copper cable constructions. Remee is unique among cable manufacturers with its offering of these alternative powered cable solutions in a number of ways.

1. Remee manufactures its fiber tubes, with offerings using gel-filled and dry tube technologies.

2. Remee is expert in the use of both braid and foil shields for copper cables.

3. Remee uses only real solid copper conductors, unlike the many manufacturers who are diluting copper material for cost savings. Adulterated copper means poor signal integrity.

4. Remee has been manufacturing fiber optic cable for over 30 years and has extensive engineering and manufacturing expertise in the use of optical fiber.

5. Unlike larger cable companies, Remee manufactures the complete composite cables in-house, providing greater control over quality and lead time.

6. Most importantly, Remee knows how each of these above factors affect each other and impact the overall performance of the composite cable. Remee is expert in the art of the finely tuned composite cable.

Remee will partner with customers on non-recurring expenses (NRE) associated with listings, ratings and other 3rd party testing needed for custom projects. In addition to the many standards and approvals Remee has today, they are willing to obtain certain required approvals when needed, such as special AWM listings, depending on the order. Other listings that can be obtained include:

  • Burn Ratings
  • Torsion
  • Crush

First two Maskless Aligner MLA300 Systems Installed at Customer Production Sites

MLA300 Maskless Aligner

Following the official launch of the Heidelberg Instruments Maskless Aligner MLA300 for industrial production in November 2019, the first two machines have been installed at customer sites in the semiconductor and electronics components industries. Further orders are pending and are scheduled for delivery in Q2 and Q3 2020.

High-throughput production settings can now benefit from all the qualities that have made the Maskless Alignment technology extremely successful in R&D and low- to mid-volume manufacturing. The MLA300 was designed specifically to fulfil industrial requirements such as high exposure speed and full automation and allows the maskless exposure of 300 mm wafers and substrates. It provides a fully integrated solution – complete with production management software and automated loaders – that integrates into production lines and MES-systems.

The MLA300 can be adapted according to specific requirements regarding process, resists, feature size and so on. Its high exposure speed can be increased even more by the combination of more than one (up to four) integrated optic modules. The standard write mode achieves 1.5 µm resolution of isolated features or 2 µm lines and spaces. The system provides perfect overlay and alignment, with the 2nd layer alignment specified as 500 nm.

A core requirement of our first MLA300 customers was a consistently high exposure quality on challenging and warped substrates. This is guaranteed by the tracking auto focus, which compensates for substrate warpage and so ensures outstanding exposure uniformity and repeatability across the entire write area.

The ability to quickly adjust the pattern is a highlight of Maskless Lithography technology. The spatial light modulator effectively acts like a “dynamic mask”: The data can be instantly adapted to compensate for distortions or die shift in packaging applications. Automating this process maximizes yield without large design rule tolerances for die shift. Another advantage of the Maskless Lithography technology is that even small series of e.g. legacy products no longer require any additional effort for storing and handling the mask sets.

About Heidelberg Instruments: With an installation base of well over 900 systems in more than 50 countries, Heidelberg Instruments is a world leader in production of high-precision maskless lithography systems. Due to their flexibility, these systems are used in research, development and industrial applications for direct writing and photomask production by some of the most prestigious universities and industry leaders in the areas of MEMS, BioMEMS, nanotechnology, ASICS, TFT, plasma displays, micro optics, and many other related applications.
