Hyper X Esports Arena Staff Taps Weston Sockwell For Fortnite Fame

A 13-year old kid from Northern California took home the Valentine’s Day Fortnite prize in Las Vegas on Friday night. The Friday Night Frags Fortnite tournament at the Hyper X Esports Arena (https://www.hyperxesportsarenalasvegas.com/) is a weekly event with a prize pool of several thousand dollars. In the exploding world of esports events where prize pools are growing dramatically, this event is not a major event by any means. However, due to the weekly nature of the event and the popularity of Las Vegas as a destination, lots of professional players use this event to keep their skills sharp on a weekly basis.

For this reason, the fact that a little known 13-year old walked away with the top prize is amazing. Playing under the gamer tag westonfn, the seventh grader dominated the tournament from the early rounds. The field included more than 100 players and a handful of well known professional players. According to the final prize rankings in Las Vegas westonfn’s actual name is Weston Sockwell.

According to an assistant manager at the Las Vegas Hyper X Arena, “The kid is all business. This was his second time in one of our events and the second time finishing in the top 3. Weston doesn’t socialize with the other players and he doesn’t ask to play on the main stage where all of the pros are. He comes in with his own keyboard and mouse, sits down and wins. Waits for his paycheck, says thank you and leaves.”

One of the professional players in the tournament said, “The kid is dope, what can I say. He has like barely 120 subs under westonfn on YouTube and he is destroying pros with contracts and thousands of subscribers.”

The sudden emergence of Weston is most likely tied to his age since Epic games, the owner of Fortnite, does not allow kids to enter professional tournaments until they turn 13. Kyle Giersdorf from Pennsylvania won $3 million last summer in the Fortnite World Cup at the age of 16.

According to several of the players at the HyperX arena, Weston was heading from Vegas to Anaheim, California to play for $250,000 in DreamHack Anaheim 2020 (https://dreamhack.com/anaheim/). More than 1,000 professional players from all over the world are expected at this event.

If he performs well in this event, westonfn will not be able to stay under the radar for long.

Star Refrigeration’s manufacturing team wins Quality Award at CeeD Awards 2020

Star team collects Quality Award at CeeD 2020

Star team collects Quality Award at CeeD 2020

We are working across the globe to advance, solve problems and push our industry to the limits of innovation through the refrigeration and heat pumps systems we manufacture. Ensuring our people can work in a tidy, clean, and well-organised environment allows us to deliver projects successfully.

Star Refrigeration has been awarded the highly sought after Quality Award at the CeeD Awards 2020 for leading the way in production waste elimination and efficient operation through the implementation of the lean manufacturing methodology, 5S (Sort, Sweep, Shine, Standardise, Sustain). The awards dinner, which took place at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel last night, recognised and celebrated the achievements of some of the best established and rising-star businesses and individuals in Scotland.

As a British manufacturer with a 50 year history, the honour was bestowed in acknowledgement of Star Refrigeration’s manufacturing quality improvement programmes, which have led to the safe, effective and timely delivery of the highest possible quality industrial engineering products. With production facilities across the country, floor space of more than 4500 m2 and multiple engineering teams functioning collaboratively around the production areas, a practical approach to organising the workspace was of the utmost importance to the company.

Derek Barclay, Director of Production at Star Refrigeration said, “We are working across the globe to advance, solve problems and push our industry to the limits of innovation through the refrigeration and heat pumps systems we manufacture. Ensuring our people can work in a tidy, clean, and well-organised environment allows us to deliver projects successfully. Thanks to the CeeD Awards for this recognition”

Initially brought into the production environment to ensure the engineers’ working environment was kept safe at all times by maintaining an orderly work space, the 5S system proved to be particularly successful at optimising production and reducing the time spent on any one project. In addition, an improvement on the quality of the product output from the factory was also noted.

Derek added, “The major success was the breakthrough of the team buying into the initiative rather than the management team driving this, which is a credit to the company’s training and ongoing review process, supported by positive recognition for compliance. With the second facility at Westway seeing more and more production of the Azane packaged ammonia chillers, it’s imperative we are lean. Our challenge is we manufacture bespoken and pre-engineered solutions so a typical production line isn’t possible”.

The 5S initiative helped facilitate the reorganisation of the company’s physical assets and operational procedures. Due to its success in Thornliebank, Glasgow – Star’s primary production location-, the methodology has been carried across to the rest of their manufacturing facilities up and down the country.

Presented by well-known Scottish broadcaster Sheeren Nanjiani, the high profile Awards Dinner in Glasgow attracted an audience over 500 people from a range of engineering and manufacturing businesses in Scotland.

CeeD itself is a fusion of organisations, all of which are dedicated to help one another improve their operational performance. This is achieved by collaboration and through sharing experience, expertise, best-practice and knowledge.

Polyverse Lands $8m in New Funding to Accelerate Security Push into Government, Enterprise and IoT

Photo of Alex Gounares

CEO Alex Gounares

Polyverse Corporation received $8m in new funding to accelerate the adoption of its groundbreaking cybersecurity technology among government agencies and solution providers. The new funding was led by existing investors and Japanese security giant Soliton Systems KK.

“We are pleased to extend our partnership with Polyverse through our investment. Polyverse’s security breakthroughs are enabling us to create radically improved products for our customers,” said Nobuo Kamata, President of Soliton.

Founded in 2015 by bringing together top engineering talent from Microsoft, Amazon, Google and the academic world, Polyverse develops leading-edge cybersecurity technology – including “Polymorphing for Linux,” that protects servers against memory-based exploits by stopping zero-day, code-execution, overflow and memory-based attacks. Polyverse technology is widely deployed by government and security-conscious organizations, and is also embedded in IoT devices and connected hardware such as healthcare devices. CNBC recently named Polyverse one of the world’s top 100 start-ups.

Polymorphing hardens open source Linux distributions by scrambling the source code without affecting its operation, functionality or performance. This makes each version of the OS unique and prevents attackers from applying their knowledge of OS weaknesses to a company’s systems, rendering their attacks useless.

Polyverse Polymorphed Linux is currently running on millions of servers. Polyverse technology has been validated by the U.S. Department of Defense to mitigate against zero-day memory exploits like WannaCry and Spectre, and the attacks on companies such as Equifax.

“Our mission is to solve the cybersecurity problem once and for all. The only way that will happen is if we take a different approach,” said Alex Gounares, CEO, Polyverse. “By building diversity and uniqueness across multiple system dimensions, Polymorphing increases the complexity and cost for attackers and stops attacks before they start.”

Expanded Leadership Team Broadens Government and Enterprise Reach

The new funding will be used to accelerate investment in expanding polymorphic technologies and adding new geographies and new capabilities such as polymorphic script engines and polymorphic build farms, for DevSecOps.

The company also added key new members to its team, including:

  • Mark “Zibo” Joseph Zbikowski, a former Microsoft Architect and an early computer hacker. He was the designer of the MS-DOS executable file format, and the headers of that file format start with his initials: the ASCII characters “MZ” (0x4D, 0x5A).
  • Phillip Cockrell, Vice President, Enterprise Sales, former Vice President of Global Alliances at SUSE, the first provider of an Enterprise Linux distribution. Cockrell led strategic sales relationships with SUSE’s top partners, including Amazon Web Services, Dell, Fujitsu, HPE, IBM and Microsoft Azure, and led strategy and execution for SUSE’s global embedded program and platform-as-a-service solutions.
  • Joanne Harris, Chief Marketing Officer, and former Global Vice President of Marketing at SUSE. Harris held responsibility for marketing strategy and planning across all marketing functions world-wide. Harris previously led EMEA Strategic Alliances and Partner Marketing for Veritas Software.

Polyverse has expanded its employee base by 50% over the past year. The new funding will enable Polyverse to continue expansion in North America and Japan, and enter strategic new markets in 2020, including the UK, and Singapore.

About Polyverse:

Polyverse Corporation is a cybersecurity company that uses its revolutionary Polymorphing technology to defend global enterprises and governments against the most devastating zero-day cyberattacks. Its technology has been validated by the U.S. Department of Defense to mitigate against zero-day memory exploits. Polyverse’s turnkey solution installs in minutes and works with existing systems without changing performance or IT processes. Founded in 2015, Polyverse is led by founder and CEO Alex Gounares. Seal Shield Medical Grade Screen Protectors Aim to Reduce Infections in Healthcare and Food Service Industries

After Seal Screen Protector Installation – Clear Display

We were all surprised how much gut and fecal bacteria there was on the touchscreen machines. – Dr. Paul Matewele

SEAL SHIELD, LLC – Almost a hundred thousand people are dying in the US per year as a result of healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs.) According to The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 80% of infections are transmitted by hands. But what hasn’t been accounted for is the large amount of screens that are now acting as an extension of people’s hands, but not getting cleaned nearly as often, if ever. According to Dr. Charles Gerba a microbiology professor at the University of Arizona, “Mobile phones are now mobile germ devices.

This issue is not limited to hospitals. Touch screen displays have become part of the restaurant experience with many top chains such as McDonald’s, Olive Garden and Panera Bread adopting them as a way to reduce labor costs. While touch screen technology has improved efficiency in the food service industry, there have been significant negative consequences. Recent studies have shown wide-spread contamination of these screens which can result in gastrointestinal infections in food service workers and restaurant patrons.

According to Dr. Paul Matewele, a senior lecturer in microbiology at London Metropolitan University, “We were all surprised how much gut and fecal bacteria there was on the touchscreen machines. These cause the kind of infections that people pick up in hospitals. For instance, Enterococcus faecalis… It is notorious in hospitals for causing hospital-acquired infections.”

Regular cleaning and disinfection of touch screens can prevent the transmission of dangerous bacteria, fungi and viruses. However, most screens are not compatible with proper cleaning agents, and will rapidly deteriorate when subjected to effective cleaning procedures. One may believe that because Apple, Samsung and Google recommend that most cleaning agents not be used on their devices, that the devices are safe to be used without proper disinfection. This is a dangerous fallacy. Medical grade screen protectors are the solution, allowing touch screens to be properly disinfected with no material degradation to the equipment.

When buying a medical grade screen protector, it is important to look for the following qualities: It should have optical clarity and not interfere in any way with the use of the device. It must protect the screen from impact and be scratch-resistant. It must allow the screen to withstand harsh cleaning products that properly disinfect the device. It must also feature anti-microbial product protection, a feature absent from consumer grade screen protectors.

Seal Shield, a leader in healthcare infection control solutions, is launching a brand-new category of medical grade screen protection that addresses each of these concerns and allows for a disinfection routine such as cleaning with bleach, isopropyl alcohol or other common commercial cleaners, which can help prevent infections. The product is called Seal Screen and is a groundbreaking solution for both the healthcare and food service industries.

According to Bill Bramblet, VP of Business Development for Seal Shield, “Seal Screen was developed in response to demand from hospitals for solutions that can reduce cross-contamination infections known to be spread through touch screen devices, but we are seeing increased applications for the food service industry as well.”

Seal Screens are a cost-effective solution for mitigating cross contamination infections and protecting expensive equipment. Seal Screens are custom cut-to-order, making them compatible with any size or type of device from smartphones to big-screen monitors.

About Seal Shield

Founded in 2006, Seal Shield™ is a world leader in infection control solutions. Seal Shield’s UV-C disinfection devices, infection control keyboards, medical grade mice and screen protectors with antimicrobial product protection solve commonly overlooked cross-contamination points throughout healthcare. Seal Shield’s combined technologies bring the most comprehensive infection control solution, driving better patient safety and outcomes.
