New Inspection Crawler Makes Finding Gas Line Cross Bores in Sewers Faster, More Accurate

New Inspection Crawler Makes Finding Gas Line Cross Bores in Sewers Faster, More Accurate

New Inspection Crawler Makes Finding Gas Line Cross Bores in Sewers Faster, More Accurate

When we decided to design a new lateral launch crawler, we started with a blank piece of paper and wrote down everything our customers had been asking for.

Envirosight, a market-leading provider of municipal sewer inspection equipment, has released the new ROVVER X SAT II lateral launch inspection crawler. The system maneuvers around obstacles and challenging pipe geometries to rapidly detect gas line cross bores in sewers and other hard-to-reach defects. The crawler can travel as far as 984 feet down mainlines at speeds up to 98 feet per minute, then launch its camera probe as far as 147 feet down adjoining service connections, at up to 23 feet per minute.

The ROVVER X SAT II also features a patent-pending belt-driven mechanism that minimizes wear on the push rod while maximizing pushing force. The design, which is easy to clean and has field-replaceable belts, is intended to increase uptime and keep maintenance costs low. Steerable 8-wheel drive makes it easier to move past debris, roots, offsets and protruding taps. During launch, the pan/tilt lateral camera with detachable steering wand navigates through bends and branches in lateral lines.

“Cross bore location is one of the most critical and challenging applications in sewer inspection,” says Richard Lindner, president of Envirosight. “When we decided to design a new lateral launch crawler, we started with a blank piece of paper and wrote down everything our customers had been asking for—more range, more speed, more traction, more productivity, lower cost of ownership, unrivaled uptime. The ROVVER X SAT II is a direct result of this process.”

Easily reconfigured for a range of applications, the ROVVER X SAT II comes with wheels of varying sizes that interchange without tools, and a launch chute that accepts off-the-shelf PVC tubes to adapt to different pipe diameters. The complete range of configurations offers launch capabilities in pipes from six inches up to 80 inches in diameter. The crawler’s unique hinged body bends through vertical accesses as narrow as 12.5 inches in diameter, and locks rigid when not needed.

The ROVVER X SAT II system also has three cameras:

  • A launch camera with 360-degree pan articulation and +150/-30-degree tilt
  • A five megapixel aiming camera that offers digital pan/tilt/zoom capability for pinpoint launching in any size line
  • A rear-facing camera to help manage cable during reverse crawl

Pressure, inclination and distance sensors all feed into a user-friendly interface. Twin sonde transmitters allow accurate location of crawler and launch camera.

New Study from Axonius and ESG Uncovers IT Megatrends Driving Decreased Asset Visibility, Increased Risk

News Image

Despite having hundreds of tools at their disposal, IT and security teams are rapidly losing sight of their asset landscape. That’s the finding from a new survey from Axonius, which reveals how trends including the ever-increasing number of end-user devices, rapid cloud adoption, and the looming IoT explosion are leading to increased complexity and risk and decreased visibility.

The study from Enterprise Strategy Group, commissioned by cybersecurity asset management company Axonius, and titled “2020 Asset Management Trends: As IT Complexity Increases, Visibility Plummets,” first reveals that today’s IT infrastructure barely resembles what it was just five years ago, and a confluence of megatrends are all rising to impact IT and security teams.

“When we speak with customers from the midmarket up to the Fortune 100, we hear the same challenges: teams are faced with too many assets, a patchwork of security tools, and maddeningly manual processes to understand what is there and whether those assets are secure,” said Dean Sysman, CEO and Co-Founder at Axonius. “This survey with ESG uncovers the depth and breadth of the asset management challenges we see today and what’s on the horizon.”

The survey of 200 IT and cybersecurity professionals from private and public-sector organizations in North America found that the move to the public cloud, an increase in the number of end-user devices, and IoT projects all contribute to a lack of visibility. Specifically, the study found that 52% of VMs now reside in the cloud, running in multiple cloud environments, making it increasingly more challenging for organizations to manage them effectively. At the same time, container usage is mainstream among cloud users, with continued predicted growth that will add further complexity.

While bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trends began more than 15 years ago, organizations are still grappling with evolving BYOD policies, especially with a typical employee now using more than four devices each week. As a result, organizations believe they are blind to about 40% of end-user-devices. At the same time, IoT continues to play an increasing role in the workplace, with more than half of organizations reporting active IoT projects. Yet, 77% report an IoT visibility gap.

This decrease in visibility correlates directly to an increase in risk. The survey found that 75% of organizations have experienced several serious cloud VM security incidents as a result of cloud visibility gaps, and 73% admit to experiencing multiple serious incidents as a result of an end user device visibility gap. In fact, organizations with visibility gaps experience 2.3x more security incidents than those without.

“Together, these changes are putting enormous pressure on IT and security teams, who are already struggling to find new management and security tools that can keep up,” said Dave Gruber, Senior Analyst, ESG. “VMs, new devices, and new device types are driving complexity. Most say that they already have too many tools, yet still report visibility gaps in what they can see versus what they want to see across cloud, mobile, and IoT environments. This gap directly translates into added security risk. 85% of organizations plan to increase investment in asset management to help overcome these issues.”

To regain the visibility needed to combat these challenges, security and IT teams are returning to a focus on the fundamentals like investing in gaining a credible inventory and automating asset management. Comprehensive IT asset inventories take over two weeks of effort, requiring 89 person-hours of labor. On average, they happen 19 times per year, demanding the involvement of multiple teams and people, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the survey found 85% of organizations plan to increase investment in asset management to help overcome these issues– especially in light of the fact that roughly 90% expect the time freed up from asset-related tasks would have a material improvement on threat hunting and incident investigation.

Industry Experts Join Forces to Analyze Corporate Use Cases and Returns on Artificial Intelligence

News Image

“Industry 4.0 companies will be fully data-driven and AI-enabled. Our aim is to provide executives with the definitive playbook and benchmarking platform to assess where they stand on AI and what they need to do to seize their cognitive future,” said Lou Celi, CEO of ESI ThoughtLab

ESI ThoughtLab, a leading economic research firm, today announced Driving ROI Through AI, an in-depth research program that will provide executives with an evidence-based roadmap for transforming their companies into high-performance enterprises powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

While some ROI analysis on AI exists, it is generally anecdotal and fails to present the variations by industry, company size, and location needed for proper benchmarking and decision making. To fill this information gap, ESI is working with global AI leaders, including Deloitte, DataRobot, Cognizant, Publicis Sapient, Cortex, and Dataiku, as well as AI experts from academia and business, to conduct a rigorous research program into the AI investment plans, practices, and performance returns of 1,200 companies across 12 industries and 16 countries.

A rigorous mixed methods approach

The study will cover five main areas of AI: robotic process automation, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. In addition to comprehensive quantitative research, including an AI benchmarking survey and performance impact modeling, ESI ThoughtLab will conduct peer group meetings and one-on-one personal interviews.

The main research objectives are to:

  • Examine the corporate areas of greatest AI investments and progress to date
  • Measure the level of investment by type of AI and business function
  • Identify use cases across the enterprise functions that generate the highest ROI
  • Analyze the full ROI across a range of value drivers, from productivity and cost savings to revenue growth and customer engagement
  • Validate leading practices by correlating them with actual business results
  • Examine organizational, governance, and ethical issues around AI

“Industry 4.0 companies will be fully data-driven and AI-enabled. Our aim is to provide executives with the definitive playbook and benchmarking platform to assess where they stand on AI and what they need to do to seize their cognitive future,” said Lou Celi, CEO of ESI ThoughtLab and the program’s director.

Octopai Announces Support of Tabular on Azure Analysis Services, Netezza and Vertica as well as Expanded Support of OLAP Cubes for Better BI Intelligence

Octopai, a leader in metadata management automation for BI & Analytics, announces today that the company has added support for Tabular on Azure Analysis Services, IBM’s Netezza, Vertica, and has expanded its support of OLAP cubes to enable organizations to understand their complete data flow to get full control over their data assets through automated data lineage and discovery.

With approximately 35% of enterprise reports residing on Microsoft’s Online Analytical Processing (SSAS – OLAP) cube, largely unsupported by data lineage tools, enterprises are increasingly frustrated by their extremely limited visibility of the data journey. To address this issue, Octopai has added advanced capabilities in its support of OLAP (full coverage of SSAS, both tabular models and OLAP cubes), enabling those organizations who rely on analysis tools to finally enjoy complete data lineage for reports based on OLAP cubes as well as MDX (MultiDimensional eXpressions) statements.

Additionally, with IBM’s recent announcement of Netezza’s end of life, many Netezza users are looking to migrate their data over to another database (DWH). Now Octopai can assist organizations using Netezza with their migration, specifically to help them quickly and easily find and understand their data so they know what to move to their new system and what to forego. Other newly supported systems include Vertica and Azure Analysis Services. Octopai will announce coverage of Ab Initio, Azure Data Factory, Talend, Amazon Redshift and Snowflake in the coming months to bring ongoing value to the BI & Analytics domain.

“Once blind in the face of their data, we are very excited to offer our cube customers expanded support of OLAP so that they can finally see the entire data journey with automated data lineage,” said Gal Ziton, CTO. “We are proud to continuously add ongoing capabilities for more and more customers using varying platforms and systems to provide a unified view and map of their data.”

To find out more about Octopai, visit http://www.octopai.com.

About Octopai:

Octopai was founded in 2015 by experienced BI professionals who had a need for time-saving and simplifying solutions. Octopai’s SaaS platform automates metadata management and analysis, enabling enterprise BI groups to quickly, easily and accurately find and understand their data. Octopai is empowering BI with complete data lineage, discovery and automated business glossary capabilities for superior BI operations, data governance, and data quality. The company was recognized as a Gartner Cool Vendor for Data Science and Machine Learning in 2018 and their investors include North First Ventures, Gefen Capital and iAngels.
