Radiant Vision Systems Introduces New VIP™ (Vision Inspection Pack) Software License that Enables Simultaneous Evaluation of Light, Color, and Defects in Backlit Symbols

Radiant Vision Systems Introduces New VIP™ (Vision Inspection Pack) Software License that Enables Simultaneous Evaluation of Light, Color, and Defects in Backlit Symbols

With VIP, Radiant offers the first complete solution for backlit symbol inspection, which simultaneously performs photometric measurement of light and color and machine vision-based registration and defect detection for efficient lab testing and production-level quality control.

Radiant Vision Systems, a leading provider of test and measurement solutions for illuminated components and displays, announces a new software extension for its TrueTest™ Automated Visual Inspection Software for photometric measurement and analysis. The VIP™ (Vision Inspection Pack) software license extends the standard photometric measurement capabilities of Radiant’s TrueTest Software, adding machine vision-based registration functionality to enable defect detection and precise light and color measurement of illuminated icons, text, and shapes. Using VIP, manufacturers can realize a complete solution for backlit component inspection in a single software platform.

“Evaluating backlit symbols is a unique challenge because the visual quality of each symbol is determined equally by its photometric properties as it is by its dimensional integrity,” says Doug Kreysar, Chief Executive Officer at Radiant Vision Systems. “Machine vision equipment has long provided an effective method for registering the area of distinct objects and shapes within images. Separately, photometric measurement systems have been designed to evaluate the relatively undefined distribution areas produced by light sources, or the rectangular measurement areas of displays. Backlit symbol inspection, therefore, has required either human inspection, or a combination of software or equipment—usually a photometric system and a machine vision system—each component accomplishing only part of the quality control objective. In the latter case, a photometric system measures the brightness and color of a symbol, while separately a machine vision system evaluates shape quality (performing defect detection within the registered area of a symbol). To address the need for greater efficiency in backlit symbol measurement in industries like automotive, aerospace, and electronics, Radiant has developed a new software extension for our TrueTest Software platform that combines these capabilities within a single system. With VIP, Radiant offers the first complete solution for backlit symbol inspection, which simultaneously performs photometric measurement of light and color and machine vision-based registration and defect detection for efficient lab testing and production-level quality control.”

Leveraging machine vision software functionality, the VIP software license applies TrueTest photometric analyses for luminance (Lv), chromaticity (CIE xy, u’v’), and other values within the precise registration areas of unique shapes such as icons, text, and other backlit components. The VIP solution combines the standard measurement capabilities of TrueTest Software with defect detection to ensure trained measurement regions are free from inclusions or exclusions caused by inaccurate laser etch or errors in overlays, filters, or other substrate layers. In high-throughput inspection applications, VIP provides an efficient solution for rapid registration of multiple symbols and shapes captured within a single measurement image, and quickly applies trained registration regions to multiple components inspected in series. Registration regions can be applied globally (across multiple symbols) to ensure the accuracy of relative symbol locations, sizes, orientations, and aspect ratios; or locally (symbol by symbol) to dynamically register each symbol for measurement and defect detection. VIP automatically locates and registers symbols in new orientations (as components move or rotate) while maintaining the same relative placement of custom POI (points of interest) within each registration region. This ensures all symbols in a series of components are consistently measured based on the same POI locations, without requiring users to maintain exact fixturing tolerances or reapply registration regions or POI for each component measured.

Paired with a Radiant ProMetric® Imaging Colorimeter or Photometer, TrueTest Software with VIP provides a complete inspection solution for backlit components. The VIP solution enables manufacturers to:

  • Simultaneously inspect integrity of backlit icons, text, and shapes while measuring photometric values
  • Accurately apply registration regions and POI locations for each symbol if components move or rotate
  • Simplify component placement and system fixturing
  • Inspect multiple icons and shapes in a single measurement image
  • Achieve highly efficient automated testing for quality control of multiple parts in production

“The direct support that we’ve gotten from the Waggl team has just been superlative. It has made this journey, which could have been rough, a whole lot smoother,” said Rick Smith, Senior Director of Human Resource Management, University of Utah Health.

Waggl, the Employee Voice platform that crowdsources real-time insight to drive faster action and alignment around critical business topics, today announced that it has once again achieved notable growth in the past year by adding many well-respected brands to its client roster in a wide variety of industries, including healthcare, government, technology, education, financial services, fast-moving consumer goods, and more.

“Waggl’s primary focus has always been on building an agile, resilient culture and great employee experience,” said Michael Papay, Co-founder and CEO, Waggl. “In the past year, we’ve seen that translate into a strong, trustworthy brand and a superior customer experience. As businesses in the United States begin to emerge from the COVID-19 crisis, we believe that maintaining an agile, engaged culture will be one of the most important predictors of continued business success. Organizations that commit to putting their people first by elevating Employee Voice will be on the right path toward recovery.”

In order to keep pace with the constantly changing business dynamics of the past year, in combination with the challenges that come with rapid growth, Waggl maintains a strong focus on providing a work environment in which all individuals are treated fairly and respectfully, and can contribute fully to the organization’s success. Rather than making decisions in a closed room with a small, narrowly defined set of leaders, Waggl management exemplifies its core values of inclusion and transparency by increasing the number of people who add their input, and by practicing wider dispersion of knowledge. The goal is to create an organizational culture that is not only high-performing, but also resilient and able to withstand change.

Waggl is keenly focused on delivering a superior customer experience. Perhaps the strongest evidence of the company’s success is illustrated by the fact that the number of its customers under multi-year agreements has more than doubled. Waggl finished 2019 with a customer Net Promoter Score (NPS) rating of 79, positioning the company alongside well-respected brands like Apple, Costco, Starbucks, and USAA. The experience Waggl provides to its customers represents a true competitive advantage through multiple customer impact stories and referrals.

“The direct support that we’ve gotten from the Waggl team has just been superlative. It has made this journey, which could have been rough, a whole lot smoother,” said Rick Smith, Senior Director of Human Resource Management, University of Utah Health. “They were just there every step of the way, and that’s been an immense help.”

Waggl is proud to have been recently recognized as a leader in every aspect of its business, including culture, employee experience, product, customer experience, growth and expansion. In Q1’20, Waggl was recognized for the third consecutive year as one of the Best Places to Work in the San Francisco Bay Area by the San Francisco Business Times, Silicon Valley Business Journal, ranking #8 for smallest companies. The company also received major accolades for corporate culture and growth from Forbes as one of America’s Best Startup Employers, and from Financial Times as one of The Americas Fastest Growing Companies 2020. In 2019, Waggl placed #15 on the San Francisco Business Times Fast 100 list and ranked 151 on the 2019 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States, with three-year revenue growth of 2482 percent, placing 26 within California-based companies, 19 within software companies, and 10 within San Francisco companies. The company was named as “Employee Engagement Vendor of the Year” by the 2019 North American Employee Engagement Awards, recognized as a Top Workplace of 2019 by the Bay Area Newsgroup, and by San Francisco Business Times/Silicon Valley Business Journal as one of the Best Places to Work, earning the #2 ranking for wellness and the #10 spot for smallest companies. Waggl was also recognized by the 9th Annual Best in Biz Awards as “Best Local Company of the Year” for the San Francisco Bay Area.

As the COVID-19 crisis rapidly changed the business environment in Q1, Waggl launched a new offering called Putting People First to help organizations hear from their people during the COVID-19 crisis, and made it available for the first 90 days at no cost. The pandemic also spurred existing customers to use Waggl to engage with their employees, to check in on how they are doing, understand what questions they need answered, and what support they need to work more effectively in this new work reality. More than 50% of Waggl’s existing customer base has expressed interest in launching at least one pulse to their organization, in support of the new workplace reality. In partnership with Josh Bersin Academy and CultureX, Waggl has also launched the COVID-19 Pulse of HR, a dynamic resource for HR professionals navigating current events that invites people to add their voices to the dialogue about topics that matter to organizations.

Eos Energy Storage Teams with Motor Oil and Ingeteam to Bring Efficient Energy Storage Solutions to Large Greek Refineries

Working with Motor Oil’s refinery and Eos’ battery technology marks a new milestone in energy storage, launching a new segment of applications designed for longer duration energy.

Eos Energy Storage, the leading manufacturer of safe, low-cost and long-duration zinc battery storage systems, is proud to announce that it is helping to bring efficient energy storage solutions to large Greek refineries in partnership with two leading industry players: Motor Oil Hellas (MOH) and Ingeteam. Eos was recently awarded a contract to manufacture, design, and deliver a 1MW 4MWh behind the meter (BTM) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Motor Oil’s Corinth Refinery in Athens, Greece and has partnered with Ingeteam to provide the full AC integrated system with their INGECON Bseries Inverter + Miniskid MV solution and INGECON EMS Plant Controller. This is Eos’ first project in Greece, expanding upon their European commercial presence.

The project aims to lower overall costs of charging from the grid, shaving peak demand, and optimizing the Corinth Refinery’s grid resiliency. The ultimate value of Eos’ safe battery technology will be displayed in this long-duration high-performance energy battery solution, improving the quality and costs of their power in the Corinth Refinery. The high-temperature climate of the Mediterranean poses many challenges for lithium chemistries requiring costly HVAC additions, where Eos does not. It is the first development in the region, with potential follow-on opportunities for larger utility scale projects across the entire Mediterranean.

Eos will plan, design, and commission the company’s patented Znyth™ storage system. Eos’ competitive advantage is its Znyth (zinc-hybrid-cathode) battery technology, which employs a unique zinc-halide oxidation/reduction cycle packaged in a modular, sealed, static-cell, flooded, bipolar battery. Eos’ simple design includes three key components: bipolar electrodes, injection-molded plastic frames, and a proprietary aqueous electrolyte. Eos’ Znyth technology only requires five core commodity materials: all of which are Earth abundant, non-conflict minerals, and are 100% recyclable. Eos batteries are not to be confused with flow batteries, in contrast, Eos does not require any moving parts or pumps making for simple upkeep and market leading low O&M.

The project will enable Motor Oil to optimize their onsite generation without fear of flammability or thermal runaway due to Eos’ inherent and proven safety. Eos’ Energy Storage System will provide full 100% depth of discharge, flexible charge/discharge capabilities with no impact to degradation, minimal auxiliary power requirements, and a 15+ year life. The benefits to Motor Oil are financial savings in fuel and maintenance, and reduced energy costs during times of peak demand, all increasing the efficiency and resiliency of the refinery’s electrical grid system.

“We consider Eos battery technology as the most competitive and attractive one compared to Li Ion batteries, capable of offering a lot of opportunities in large scale BESS in the future,” said Vassilis Viziryiannakis, Head of Electricity Business of Motor Oil Hellas.

“This project is not only our initial entry into the dynamic Greece energy storage market, but it’s also an opportunity to demonstrate the many advantages of our storage technologies including performance, safety, and environmental conditions,” said Joe Mastrangelo, CEO of Eos Energy Storage.

“At Ingeteam, we are proud to supply the power conversion and control system for this opportunity,” said Maria Santa Maria, Director of Energy Storage, Business Development at Ingeteam. “Up until recently, most storage systems were aiming to fulfill a particular grid code requirement, basing their principal functionalities in power services for grid support. Working with Motor Oil’s refinery and Eos’ battery technology marks a new milestone in energy storage, launching a new segment of applications designed for longer duration energy. Furthermore, its sustainable and environmentally friendly product has earned Eos the trust of a very emblematic and safety exigent project. At Ingeteam, we look forward to bringing the best technological partnership and support for success.”
