Commercial UAV Expo Americas 2020 Shifts to Virtual Event in September

“People need an update on the latest developments and the impact on their business. We are dedicated to bringing major stakeholders together to continue to move the industry forward during a particularly important time for drone industry expansion.”

Commercial UAV Expo Americas 2020 is going virtual, according to event organizer Diversified Communications. “Due to ongoing health and safety concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the commercial drone community we serve have made it clear that it would be impossible to hold the live event as originally planned. In the interests of ensuring our community still has an opportunity learn from and connect with each other, we have reimagined Commercial UAV Expo Americas as a fully virtual event taking place September 15-17, 2020,” said Lisa Murray, Group Director at Diversified Communications, organizer of Commercial UAV Expo Americas. These are the same dates the live event had been scheduled for in Las Vegas.

Details will be forthcoming, but the content will include keynotes, panel discussions, and presentations with interactive Q&A and chat features; an AI-powered networking component; virtual exhibits, and demonstrations by UAS solutions providers. “We have stayed in close contact with our customers over the last few months. A huge thank you to all of them. I cannot say enough about their support and collaboration with our team during this time. What is clear is that they want and need the business networking and education normally provided by our event, but travel bans and other restrictions were going to prevent them from attending. We decided to put a stake in the ground and make immediate plans to ensure the broadest participation possible by making the event virtual now. Where a virtual event may not have appealed to many just a few months ago, the world has changed. People are yearning for connections and education. We are excited to offer the key benefits they expect from us: critical, timely education delivered by industry leaders, opportunities to network and engage with peers, and the ability to learn about the newest technology in the space,” said Ms. Murray. She added that the content will naturally address how the industry has responded to the pandemic, as well as the associated opportunities and challenges.

FAA Administrator Stephen M. Dickson, an aviation professional with nearly 40 years of experience, will Keynote the virtual event. Dickson leads an agency responsible for the safety and efficiency of the largest aerospace system in the world. “We are thrilled that Administrator Dickson will be addressing the audience at such a critical time for the drone space,” said Ms. Murray.

Additional information about the event will be announced, but commercial drone solutions providers will have the opportunity to host virtual exhibits, conduct one-on-one meetings, provide product information, share videos and more—all virtually. “We are investing in a robust virtual platform that will deliver high value to companies already signed on for the in-person event. We expect going virtual will naturally attract new companies, further enhancing the array of products and services on offer and attracting new buyers who may not have attended a live event but are more than ready to attend virtually.” said Ms. Murray.

“So much has happened in the drone space since the last edition of Commercial UAV Expo Americas,” said Ms. Murray. “People need an update on the latest developments and the impact on their business. While restrictions on travel are in place, restrictions on business are not. We are dedicated to bringing major stakeholders together to continue to move the industry forward during a particularly important time for drone industry expansion.”

Return to a Live Event in 2021

In 2021, Commercial UAV Expo Americas will take place September 7-9, 2021 at the Mirage in Las Vegas,” said Ms. Murray. “We look forward to the opportunity to connect in person with our customers. In the meantime, we will be their virtual connection to the drone industry.”

Powercast Joins RAIN RFID Alliance

Thin Powerharvester receiver chips PCC110 and PCC114 embed easily into RFID devices

A tiny Powerharvester receiver chip can harvest RF from RFID readers (from 9 to 24 meters away) and very efficiently convert it to DC to power applications over the air.

We are delighted to join the RAIN RFID Alliance and look forward to a mutually beneficial collaboration,” said Charles Greene, Ph.D., chief operating and technical officer of Powercast. “RAIN provides an industry forum to promote the benefits of RFID technology and is driving awareness to accelerate

Powercast Corporation, the leader in radio-frequency (RF)-based long-range over-the-air wireless power technology, announced that it has joined 160 other organizations in the RAIN RFID Alliance who share the goal of promoting the universal adoption of ultra-high frequency (UHF) RFID technology. This global alliance aims to emulate the same success for RFID that the Wi-Fi Alliance and Bluetooth SIG have had in achieving universal adoption for their wireless standards.

RAIN RFID is a wireless technology that uses both handheld and fixed UHF RFID readers that are prevalent in industries around the globe to connect billions of everyday items to the internet. It enables businesses and consumers to identify, locate, authenticate and engage each item bearing an RFID tag or label.

Powercast’s Powerharvester® RF-to-DC converter chips harvest RF from 10MHz to 6GHz, and bring new functionality to RAIN RFID systems. The Powerharvester PCC110 and PCC114 chips can harvest RF from existing UHF RFID readers and very efficiently (up to 80% efficiency) convert it to direct current (DC) to power applications over the air. RFID readers emit a similar RF signal to Powercast’s PowerSpot® and Powercaster® RF wireless power transmitters, enabling RAIN RFID to be another reliable source of RF wireless power.

A Powerharvester receiver chip embedded in an electronic paper display (EPD) tag such as a retail electronic shelf-edge label (ESL), an environmental sensing or logistics tag, or a secure ID card can harvest RF when it comes within range of a UHF RFID reader. That range is application dependent; most can function up to 30 feet (9 meters) from a reader, while some can work up to 80 feet (24 meters) away. RFID tag or label devices can be designed with batteries that Powercast either recharges or manages, or without batteries because an embedded Powerharvester chip can harvest enough power from UHF RFID readers to operate perpetually.

Several applications developed with partner E Ink and deployed over the last two years enable companies to use RFID infrastructure to wirelessly update E Ink’s ePaper screen over the air. These include ViewTag’s electronic bag tag, launched by British Airways in 2019 as TAG, which harvests RF from airport RFID equipment to refresh the ePaper screen with the passenger’s itinerary; and Powercast’s UHF RFID Retail Price Tag, a batteryless ESL launched in 2018 which harvests RF from retail RFID readers to send over-the-air price updates to its ePaper screen. More details are in E Ink and Powercast’s white paper, “Integrating wireless power technology into ePaper devices for carefree wireless charging:” http://go.eink.com/whitepapers

Other UHF RFID over-the-air wireless power applications include environmental monitoring, such as Powercast’s RFID Sensor Tags launched in 2017 which measure temperature, light and humidity; smart packaging with wirelessly illuminated LEDs; smart ID cards which electronically verify user credentials; logistics and advanced location tracking devices; and on-product sensing devices.

“We are delighted to join the RAIN RFID Alliance and look forward to a mutually beneficial collaboration,” said Charles Greene, Ph.D., chief operating and technical officer of Powercast. “RAIN provides an industry forum to promote the benefits of RFID technology and is driving awareness to accelerate growth and adoption across many industries.”

“The alliance welcomes Powercast to our growing membership,” said Steve Halliday, president of the RAIN RFID Alliance. “Powercast brings deep experience in defining and executing wireless power solutions to benefit our members, and will contribute to our mission of promoting RFID technology.”

noax logistics terminals offer the highest security in data transfer and very wide coverage in support of current WLAN standards. The new internal WLAN antennas on the logistics PCs provide excellent reception capabilities and are designed specifically for mobile use.

Best WLAN – Maximum Reception

Continuous uninterrupted data transfer is essential for smooth operations in warehouses and logistics. Stellar WLAN reception on the logistics terminals is critical when it comes to equipping a fleet of industrial vehicles. Depending on the WLAN coverage and application, noax logistics touchscreen computers can be equipped with integrated or external antennas. This allows the PC’s to perfectly adapt to the respective infrastructure. The logistics industrial PCs support both frequency bands: 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.

Perfect Roaming – Optimized Network Connectivity

Two common problems when moving between WLAN (Wifi) access points are intermittent connectivity and loss of data. noax counteracts these performance limitations with the use of improved connectivity components and specific positioning of integrated antennas (external antennas are available). The noax logistics terminal has several options to adjust the internal wireless settings to improve connectivity. The excellent transmission capabilities and optimized design result in better connectivity and reduced loss of data.

Greatest flexibility – Cellular and WiFi

WLAN coverage may not be available everywhere, especially on large company campuses. Compared to old-style radial fan units, the ECFanGrid is easier to install, provides higher volume and more uniform airflow with less low-frequency noise and built-in redundancy for greater reliability.

Rosenberg’s Gen 3 EC motor makes the ECFanGrid even more reliable with advanced ModBus RTU functionality, built-in preventive maintenance and reliability features – integrated inspection LED, Electronic Quick-Change capability, IT network support – and increased failure safety.

ECFanGrid fan units can be joined in any quantity or arrangement – 1×3, 2×2, 2×3, 3×3 – multiplying the Gen 3 motor’s increased power and providing virtually limitless application flexibility. All units within the grid work together, simplifying implementation of airflow, pressure or temperature controls.

Rosenberg Gen 3 fans also come with these motor innovations:

  • 200 to 480-VAC 3-Phase Supply. Previous EC motor generations were designed for either 200-230-VAC or 380-480-VAC input power which required manufacturers to inventory both. Our new motor automatically adjusts to the actual input power across the entire range, allowing reduced inventory cost. (Airflow is always maximized at 460-Volt input voltage.)
  • 280 to 680-VDC Power Supply. Motor automatically adjusts from AC to DC-input voltage when required in data centers or in back-up battery applications.
  • Integrated visual inspection LED which displays the motors’ condition and Modbus operation status.

The ECFanGrid is a powerful retrofit solution for mechanical contractors, architects, and energy management groups. While the entire assembly can be purchased from from Rosenberg, it’s not the only way to deploy ECFanGrid technology.

A “build-your-own” ECFanGrid solution saves money and comes with factory support and access to RoVent10 software for easy configuration, technical drawings, wiring assistance, energy audit testing and air flow measurement. Many mechanical contractors can perform the necessary sheet metal fabrication and the Gen 3 EC fan products needed are available from Rosenberg’s North Carolina warehouse for immediate delivery.
