Alboa installs 85 Christie laser projectors for its 13 entertainment centers

The Mexican entertainment chain Alboa, part of the Cinemex Group, has recently acquired 85 Christie® 1DLP® laser projectors for its 13 entertainment centers dotted around the country. The integrator T&T Cinema oversaw the roll out.

Alboa Entertainment Halls embrace a mix of bowling, pool tables, sports bar, food, mixology, stages for live shows and spaces for events for 50 to 1000 people. It has 13 centers all over Mexico with a total of 175 bowling alleys, and another seven new centers are scheduled to open in the next few months.

Alboa has always acknowledged the major role that AV plays in its centers as the best option for ensuring unique experiences for its customers. The chain was already using Christie lamp-based projectors but decided to make the move to laser projection technology in order to give its audiences a whole new level of image quality, as well as to reduce costs and increase efficiency.

“Besides the fact that laser projection guarantees improved image quality, with up to 20,000 hours of virtually maintenance-free operation it means a considerable cut in running costs, and no expenditure in replacing lamps and filters,” explained Fernando Poblador, Alboa’s Infrastructure Manager.

Poblador also underscored the greater potential of laser projection when compared with other display technologies like LED. He pointed out that “laser projection gives you the flexibility to ensure high quality images whatever the available space.”

Likewise, Alboa’s head of infrastructures highlighted his confidence in Christie as its supplier of choice: “Here at Alboa we are always looking to forge alliances with the leading companies in their sector, and Christie, the world’s preeminent projection brand, has always offered us the perfect solution for each of our projects.”

Alboa has installed various models from the Christie GS series, ranging from 5600 to 13,000 lumens and with resolutions from HD to WUXGA, with the Christie DWU630-GS model being the standard in most of its entertainment centers. The GS Series has built-in Christie BoldColor technology for the most life-like images and natural color reproduction possible with laser ​illumination

On average, every Alboa center uses five projectors to screen sports, music and entertainment as well as in the bowling area, projecting onto a single screen with a gain of 1.8.

These cables utilize standard SFP+ and SFP28 transceivers attached to copper based twinax cable. Both active and passive options are available in speeds of 10 Gbps or 25 Gbps. Epiq Solutions, an engineering firm developing cutting edge RF tools for situational awareness and detailed insight into RF environments, today introduces Matchstiq Z3u, the newest member of the Matchstiq family of flexible, application-ready software defined radio (SDR) platforms. Matchstiq Z3u helps engineering teams accelerate their development schedule and time to market by providing a flexible RF platform in a mobile-ready form factor. This allows these engineering teams to focus on their signal processing application development instead of the complexities of developing size, weight, and power (SWaP) constrained SDR platforms.

Matchstiq Z3u combines a Xilinx® Zynq® UltraScale+™ System on Chip (SoC) with quad-core ARM CPU running Ubuntu Linux, Analog Devices’ AD9361 RFIC, integrated Rx pre-select filters, GPS disciplined oscillator, 10 MHz + PPS inputs, and a USB 3.0 OTG interface. Applications can execute locally on the Zynq US+ SoC, or remotely on a host device such as a cell phone, tablet, or laptop by connecting to Matchstiq Z3u over USB 3.0. Both eMMC (128 GB) and an externally accessible microSD card slot are included to provide multiple data storage options. Power can be provided to the platform through the USB-C interface, or via an external DC power input port. The entire platform including its custom aluminum housing measures just 3.64” x 2.74” x 0.75” and comes with a magnetic mounting option to attach it to a host device.

Silanna Semiconductor, The Power Density Leader, today announced the full production release of the industry-leading expanded portfolio of Active Clamp Flyback Controllers (ACF). Silanna Semiconductor focuses on the ultimate power management challenges with best-in-class power density and efficiency that delight customers with unprecedented BoM savings. First announced in April 2020, Silanna Semiconductor has achieved full production release of the SZ1130 ACF PWM controllers, delivering on the customer expectations and market penetration of Active Clamp Flyback Controllers.

SZ1130 devices are ACF controllers that integrate an adaptive digital PWM controller and the following Ultra High-Voltage (UHV) components: an Active Clamp FET, Active Clamp Gate Driver, and a Startup Regulator. This unprecedented integration level facilitates designing efficient, high-power-density adapters with low BoM cost to satisfy power-hungry mobile phones, tablets, notebooks, and video game consoles.

“We were looking for an extremely powerful product that can charge our devices very quickly. We established that the SZ1130 is very dense yet can handle up to 65 W of output power with quick charge applications,” said Tony Wu, Chief Technology Officer of Heytech, the Shenzhen based design house providing state-of-art power supply solutions to Major ODMs in China. “We feel confident using the SZ1130 due to the all-silicon design and 30 W/in3 power density at 65 W output power. Not only does this provide high speed, but the silicon has temperature resistant properties, which is of great importance to us.”

The device provides the ease-of-design of a simple flyback controller with all the benefits of an Active Clamp Flyback design, including recycling the leakage inductance energy of the flyback transformer and limiting the primary FET drain voltage spike during the turn-off events. Employing Silanna Semiconductor’s OptiModeTM digital control architecture, the SZ1130 adjusts the device’s mode of operation on a cycle-by-cycle basis to maintain high efficiency, low EMI, fast dynamic load regulation, and other key power supply parameters in response to varying line voltage and load. The SZ1130 is fully supported by the Silanna Semiconductor’s Asian Center of Excellence (ACE) design support center. The technical sales team and design software make the SZ1130 an easy option for customers.

“Unlike conventional ACF designs, tight tolerances of the clamp capacitor and leakage inductance values are not required for proper operation of the circuit in high volume production,” said Ahsan Zaman, Director of Marketing. “The SZ1130 is well-suited for high efficiency and high power density AC/DC power adapters. The devices are designed for 65 W (SZ1130) output power, including USB-PD and Quick Charge applications.”

SZ1130-based AC/DC power supplies easily meet the stringent DoE and CoC efficiency and no-load standby power requirements.
