New Cinema Star multiplex selects Christie projectors for multiplex

Cinema Star’s new multiplex is a great example of how cinemas can install both state-of-the art equipment like Christie RGB pure laser illumination for a premium customer experience as well as Christie xenon lamp-based projectors, proven for their reliability and value to exhibitors

The Cinema Star, a new state-of-the-art multiplex located in the Kvartal West multipurpose center on Aminyevskoye Shosse in Moscow, opened its doors in August. The capital’s new theatre is the first Dolby Atmos cinema to also feature the Christie® СP4440-RGB projector with Real|LaserTM illumination technology.

“Asia Cinema has fitted more than 1,000 sites, but this project was a particularly great experience for me. Each of the multiplex’s six screens features multichannel Dolby Atmos sound combined with Christie projection equipment. Screen 1 was equipped with a Christie CP4440-RGB 4K RGB laser projector. RGB laser technology offers viewers true-to-life images with incredible brightness and clarity. It also helps theatre operators to reduce their electricity costs,” said Anna Miroshnichenko, a project manager for systems integrator Asia Cinema.

“Cinema Star’s new multiplex is a great example of how cinemas can install both state-of-the art equipment like Christie RGB pure laser illumination for a premium customer experience as well as Christie xenon lamp-based projectors, proven for their reliability and value to exhibitors,” said Brian Claypool, executive vice president, Cinema, at Christie.

Christie RealLaser cinema projectors with solid-state illumination are opening up a new frontier in cinema exhibition. What makes these models stand out is their expanded color space, which comes close to reaching the Rec.2020 standard, and their longevity (the projectors offer more than 50,000 hours of performance with no loss of brightness: levels exceed the DCI specification throughout the equipment’s operational lifetime).

“We chose Christie projectors for this theatre. We have been working with the company for years, and have found it to be an excellent manufacturer,” says Leonid Yakovlev, Technical Director of the Cinema Star chain. “Every consideration was made to ensure cinemagoers’ comfort in all 616 seats.

Yury Mishin, Chief Equipment Engineer at Cinema Star, added: “From Christie’s wide range of technology, we opted for digital projectors for our screens. When compared to cinema projectors with similar specifications from other manufacturers, Christie projectors stand out for their ease of use, reliability and maintainability. I would also note the exceptional quality of the xenon lamps.”

The choice of Christie RealLaser technology for the Cinema Star multiplex was no accident: “We reviewed the market for cinema projectors with laser illumination and concluded that there were simply no other contenders in the RGB lighting system segment. We hope to use these projectors for many years to come, and that they prove to be a cost-effective choice,” adds Yury.

“Cinema Star is a longstanding Christie partner, and two thirds of the chain’s screens are already equipped with our projectors. We have been collaborating for nearly a decade now, and we are delighted that Cinema Star has chosen Christie equipment and our flagship СP4440-RGB projector with RealLaser illumination technology for its new screen,” added Anna Vostretsova, Christie’s Business Development Manager in Russia.

The multiplex in Kvartal West on Aminyevskoye Shosse is the chain’s thirtieth theatre.

Kelser Corporation announced that CRN® has recognized Kelser as a 2020 Triple Crown Award winner.

Earning the Triple Crown Award for the first time is a tremendous honor and achievement,

Kelser Corporation announced that CRN®, a brand of The Channel Company, has recognized Kelser as a 2020 Triple Crown Award winner.

CRN Triple Crown Award winners are among the largest IT solution providers in North America from a revenue standpoint on the Solution Provider 500 list, while ranking as one of the fastest-growing organizations in the channel with recognition on the Fast Growth 150 list, and have received the highest-level certifications from leading vendors on the Tech Elite 250 list. While it is an impressive accomplishment for a solution provider to earn a spot on any of these elite lists, being named to all three in the same year is a great honor that should receive special acknowledgement and celebration.

“Earning the Triple Crown Award for the first time is a tremendous honor and achievement,” said Barry Kelly, CEO of Kelser. “We don’t directly strive for accolades but it’s humbling that CRN has recognized the shared success and prosperity we’ve brought to businesses throughout New England with the power of technology.”

For the seventh year, the Triple Crown Award recognizes solution providers that hold themselves to the highest standard in the IT channel. It is awarded to the top solution providers in North America based on revenue, growth, and technical expertise.

“Triple Crown Award winners have attained the ultimate achievement — the trifecta — they are among the top solution providers in North America by revenue, have seen more substantial growth than many of their peers over the past year, and continue to establish and build upon the technical skills that help them provide customers with the highest level of service in the IT channel,” said Blaine Raddon, CEO of The Channel Company. “We are honored to award these solution providers the Triple Crown Award for their expertise and exceptional contributions to the channel, and we are excited to see where they go from here.”

This year’s Triple Crown Award winners will be featured in the October issue of CRN Magazine — they can also be found online at http://www.crn.com/triplecrown.

If Robin Hood and Tux (the Linux Penguin) had a love child: A rebranded CodeWeavers

CodeWeavers new logo

CodeWeavers New Logo [October 2020]

“We are developers at our core, who are not afraid of technical, often messy challenges. We bend rules, we accomplish the unexpected, we take risks. We are disruptive, yet good natured,” Marketing Director Jana Schmid declares.

CodeWeavers®, Inc., developer of CrossOver™ — a unique approach to cross-platform compatibility for macOS®, Linux and Chrome OS®— announced today an overhaul of its branding that reflects a more focused vision and enhanced service offerings. CodeWeavers launched an updated website (http://www.codeweavers.com) offering two newly branded services — PortJump™ and ExecMode™ — alongside their OG software, CrossOver.

“This rebrand better represents the evolution of CodeWeavers over the last 14 years,” James Ramey, President of CodeWeavers explains. “We believe Robin Hood had the right idea. There is no such thing as a closed platform. Software was meant to be liberated, and we believe we are the liberator.”

Introducing PortJump and ExecMode

PortJump helps app and game developers broaden their market beyond Windows users. With CodeWeavers signature CrossOver technology, no source code changes are required. This eliminates the need for clients to maintain two or more code bases, while bringing their Windows based app or game to the macOS, Linux and/or Chrome OS marketplace. ExecMode helps organizations solve their most ghastly technical challenges with our unmatched expertise and talent.

“It’s the first time we put names and branding into our porting service (PortJump) and our consulting service (ExecMode).” Founder and CEO of CodeWeavers Jeremy White reveals. “Rest assured my open-source aficionados, the new branding only enhances our commitment to Wine and the open-source community. We believe in building up the open source community. In building up the next generation of talent. The best people will be attracted to the greatest causes. And we don’t care what the popular kids think. All while preserving the mischievous humor we enjoy so much.”

CodeWeavers’ core mission is to support people using Windows technology without Windows by sustaining and improving the Wine project.

“We are developers at our core, who are not afraid of technical, often messy challenges. We bend rules, we accomplish the unexpected, we take risks. We are disruptive, yet good natured,” Marketing Director Jana Schmid declares. “We believe in doing hard things because they are hard. In taking our mission seriously, and ourselves less seriously. That makes us fun to be around.”

###

About CodeWeavers

We’re rebels. We’re misfits. But mostly, we’re software liberators. And we’re very, very good at what we do. We have to be. Lots of developers work with open source, but only a tiny fraction of those are good enough to get software that was designed for one platform to work on another one. We invented CrossOver software – a unique approach to cross-platform compatibility that does not require dual-boot or another OS license. We launched PortJump to help app and game developers broaden their market beyond Windows® users. And we launched ExecMode to help Enterprise organizations solve really ugly technical challenges. ABB Improves Reliability in Industrial and Utility Applications with Integritas Battery Charger

ABB Integritas Industrial Battery Charger with Nebula Controller

Having reliable, efficient backup power in a single charger with high power density helps ensure these critical applications remain up-and-running while also reducing the footprint of the power equipment needed.

In industrial and utility applications, uptime is often one of the most critical aspects of operations – right after safety. ABB is helping to ensure reliable, efficient power in these mission critical industries with its new Integritas* industrial battery charger. The wall-mounted system features switch-mode rectifier technology that provides transformer-less, efficient power conversion in a compact footprint – providing true N+1 or N+N redundancy in a single battery charger.

“Ensuring reliable, efficient AC-to-DC power and battery backup is essential in applications such as utility power, oil and gas, and process control – to name a few – where downtime can be critical,” said Mark Lloyd, senior product manager with ABB. “Having reliable, efficient backup power in a single charger with high power density helps ensure these critical applications remain up-and-running while also reducing the footprint of the power equipment needed – freeing up valuable floor space.”

ABB’s versatile industrial battery charger supports the critical DC power and battery charging needs of various rigorous industrial applications – from utilities and manufacturing to pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals. It provides up to 18 kilowatts (kW) of output power at 125 volts DC (VDC) from a direct, three-phase, 480-volt AC (VAC) input feed.

Improved Battery Charger Management with New Nebula Controller

The industrial battery charger is the first ABB solution to implement the company’s new Nebula controller, which takes system monitoring, maintenance, and security to a new level compared to previous controllers. The Nebula controller makes accessing and reviewing critical information simple; both locally and remote. Located on the front of the battery charger is a seven-inch color touchscreen that can display information including, but not limited to, active performance information, alarms, and status updates on the input and output. In addition, the Nebula controller utilizes Distributed Network Protocol 3 (DNP3)-based communications, allowing the battery status to be networked with plant-wide distributed control systems (DCS) or supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.

Key Features of the Integritas Industrial Battery Charger

The Integritas industrial battery charger presents several key features and performance benefits, including:

  • Replacing two redundant silicon-controlled rectifier-based chargers with a one multiple-rectifier unit to provide “single-charger” redundancy.
  • Switch-mode rectifier technology for improved power efficiencies of up to 95.7% at 50 to 100% load.
  • A compact, wall-mount design that is up to 40% smaller than comparable 40-amp silicon-controlled rectifier chargers.
  • Accommodating a wide input voltage range of between 85-530 VAC.
  • Robust operating temperature range between -40 and +75 degrees Celsius.

Enhanced Charger Capability and Redundancy with ABB’s Switch-Mode Rectifiers

The Integritas industrial battery charger features another new product specifically designed for industrial applications – the IP040H3R125ATEZ switch-mode rectifier. The new industrial rectifier can convert 480 VAC directly to 125 VDC without the need for a step-down transformer. In addition, when installed in a 19-inch cabinet frame, the IP040 industrial rectifiers can provide 150 amps of output current in a 14-by-17-by-28-inch space – offering significant size savings for power system designers.

Utilizing switch-mode rectifier technology helps the industrial battery charger unleash even more performance and design benefits. The rectifiers operate at a higher switching frequency (90-270 KHz) than conventional silicon-controlled rectifiers, which typically operate in the 45-65 Hz range. This technology also helps to reduce the size and weight of the power conversion components when compared to comparable silicon-controlled rectifier-based battery chargers. AC-to-DC conversion is also more efficient with switch-mode rectifiers, creating a lower thermal impact, higher power efficiency of up to 95.7 percent, and improving the life cycle of the unit.

“Employing a modular, expandable rectifier design into a single charger allows for power to be scaled as needed,” Lloyd continued. “Using multiple power modules, the charger can be configured for N+1 redundancy to maintain full power output if one power unit fails. The battery charger also can be configured for full N+N redundancy by using multiple mirrored power supplies – enabling even greater reliability.”

The modular design of the Integritas industrial battery charger allows for critical components to be “hot swapped” for easier repair or replacement, keeping the charging load up during maintenance or replacements and reducing overall maintenance costs.

Minnow Launches Pilot Program for its Contact-Free Food Pickup Pods

B-Natural Kitchen Customer picking up their take out order using a Minnow Pickup Pod.

“The Pickup Pod frees up staff time and reduces order mix-ups. Having the order in a secure cubby where it is accessible only to the person who is supposed to pick it up is a game changer.” Said Emma Dye, founder of Crisp Salads.

Survey reveals that consumers want a better pickup experience

Minnow, an IoT startup that has developed a contact-free food delivery and pickup solution (called the Minnow Pickup Pod™), announced today that it has launched a pilot program in partnership with fast-casual restaurants and food service operators.

Minnow has launched pilots at Crisp Salads in Portland, Oregon (Division Street location) and at bNatural Kitchen in New Haven, Connecticut. Both are fast-casual restaurants that offer healthy fare and have experienced a sharp increase in online orders since the pandemic began. That increase, along with the need to maintain social distancing, has made it more difficult to provide a pickup experience that is both safe and convenient.

“Trying to ensure the safety of our customers as well as our team members is our number one priority,” said Emma Dye, founder of Crisp Salads. “The Pickup Pod frees up staff time and reduces order mix-ups. Having the order in a secure cubby where it is accessible only to the person who is supposed to pick it up is a game changer.”

Minnow’s latest consumer survey shows that consumers agree. When asked about their preferences for picking up their online orders, 86% of consumers said contact-free pickup is important. In addition, the vast majority (96%) want their food kept in an insulated compartment so it stays hot or cold while waiting to be picked up, while 94% want it kept in a secure compartment so no one could touch or tamper with it.

Nebyat Sheweye, owner of bNatural Kitchen, echoed those sentiments. “We make healthy food, but we also want to provide our customers and delivery partners with a healthy pickup experience. That’s where the Minnow Pickup Pod comes in.”

In addition to reducing labor costs and providing a safer and more convenient pickup experience, a Minnow Pickup Pod can increase revenues and boost profitability. 36% of consumers said they’d order more often from restaurants with a Pickup Pod. Consumers also said they’d be willing to pay a $0.50 convenience fee to pick up from a secure, insulated, self-service food pickup solution.

“The pandemic has accelerated an already growing trend for delivery and takeout,” said Steven Sperry, Minnow’s CEO. “That trend will continue beyond the pandemic, and that means food service operators need to rethink the pickup experience they’re providing their customers.”

The Power of Partnership in the Battle Against COVID-19

Dedicated Computing and Intel are accelerating technologies to help fight COVID-19

Our entire company is passionate about living our mission every day, and this is an exciting opportunity to accelerate access to the latest technology at the point of patient care, for vaccine development, and other direct pandemic response efforts.

Dedicated Computing is expediting development of two embedded computing products that support one of the world’s premier in-vitro diagnostic companies in their fight against COVID-19. Upon development completion, Dedicated is accelerating the deployment of these products, which are at the core of the manufacturer’s immunoassay and clinical chemistry analyzers. These analyzers are deployed to over 130 countries worldwide, including over 2,000 patient testing facilities throughout the U.S. Funding for this solution was provided in part by Intel Corporation’s Pandemic Response Technology Initiative.

Testing labs are pushing hard to increase their volume based on the COVID-19 demand from the public. Dedicated and Intel are supporting this increase by deploying the most up-to-date technology available, as quickly as possible. These systems run up to 440 tests per hour, accommodating 25+ million tests per month.

“We are committed more than ever to our mission of Powering the World’s Most Important Devices®,” says Don Schlidt, President and CEO of Dedicated Computing. “Our entire company is passionate about living our mission every day, and this is an exciting opportunity to accelerate access to the latest technology at the point of patient care, for vaccine development, and other direct pandemic response efforts.”
