SportPort Activewear Expands Nationwide Into b8ta Stores & Online

SportPort is proud to have b8ta recognize us as a forward-thinking brand and include us as a new line of sportswear in their stores.

SportPort, the innovative, made-in-the-USA women’s sportswear brand, launched in b8ta brand stores and online website on October 14, 2020. SportPort will be offered in 11 of the b8ta US flagship stores, including their Forum fashion and lifestyle stores, located in nine states across the country.

b8ta stores aim to connect consumers with progressive companies that prioritize sustainability, design, and quality, and SportPort is anticipated to be a solid extension of b8ta’s expanding line of innovative products. “We are proud to have b8ta recognize us as a forward-thinking brand and include us as a new line of sportswear in their stores,” says Kim Highfield, owner and CEO of SportPort. “We really look forward to having people in retail stores be able to see, feel, and test out our unique protective sportswear.”

After her mother lost her battle to breast cancer, Highfield became aware of the potential dangers of certain types of electromagnetic radiation fields that can cause disruptions inside the body at cellular levels. She began researching everything pertaining to cell phone radiation while becoming more proactive about her own health. “When I started to become aware of the risks cell phones can pose when placed up close, against the body, especially soft tissue, I realized a true need in women’s athletic apparel that was lacking — a cell phone pocket that would function for both convenience and also protect our bodies from harmful EMF radiation,” Highfield asserted.

Noticing there was an essential need for products that shield consumers from this potential danger, Highfield decided to develop a truly functional line of sportswear for women. She spent two years in formal research and development and nearly 10 years in personal study to create the first EMF-resistant SportPort sports bra — a product that relies on cutting-edge fabric technology, ultra-lightweight premium compression fabrics, and the proprietary protective pocket system.

The protective aspect of SportPort’s line of athletic wear comes from an innovative, patented design that includes a pocket built into its sports bras so that women can safely carry and use their phones while exercising or on the run. This proprietary protective pocket system forms a protective barrier and helps to protect users from the potentially harmful EMF emissions that come from keeping and using cell phones close to the body — allowing it to not only be comfortable and fashionable while exercising but safe and functional as well.

Highfield concludes, “We are excited to be at the forefront of innovation with the SportPort line of sportswear for enhanced performance, safety, recovery, and fashion. We are particularly honored to be partnering with b8ta — a true pioneer in showcasing innovative products for shoppers to discover.”

Both b8ta retail stores and the company’s website platforms will feature only a few select SportPort items. Those interested in seeing the full sportswear line, additional products or learning more about what SportPort has to offer in patented and protective sportswear are encouraged to visit the SportPort website at https://sportportactive.com.

CleanCash Develops Prototype That Implements UVC Light to Disinfect Cash, Coins, and Credit Card Terminals Rapidly for Retail Environments

News Image

The device has a tray where you place your cash, then, the tray closes and a vacuum-powered set of suction cups lifts and separates each bill, moving them individually over an array of light-emitting diodes which pulsate UVC rays onto the bill itself.

CleanCash is developing a decentralized solution for sanitizing currency at the point-of-sale with its proprietary, patent-pending, reliable, and cost-effective devices. CleanCash hopes that its upcoming products will help businesses and consumers combat their fear of spreading or contracting germs during the current worldwide pandemic.

Founder, Nevin Jenkins, explains some of the details of their upcoming solution: “The device has a tray where you place your cash, then, the tray closes and a vacuum-powered set of suction cups lifts and separates each bill, moving them individually over an array of light-emitting diodes which pulsate UVC rays onto the bill itself. This UVC light energy actually damages the DNA of viruses and other bacteria, effectively sanitizing the bills as they pass through the system. Similarly, coins are separated, sanitized, and delivered back to you or the cashier.”

Credit card terminals present another potential point of transmission, with potentially dozens of consumers touching its screen and buttons every hour. CleanCash’s solution retracts the credit card terminal after each use, where it is similarly sanitized with UVC light energy. This retraction and enclosure are necessary to protect any people from the damaging effects of UV light on human skin and eyes. All UVC light energy-emitting components of the CleanCash solution are completely enclosed and shielded from human exposure.

Though there are ample opportunities for this technology to make an impact during the COVID era, CleanCash believes that their products will be the clear and immediate application to provide a decentralized solution for the sterilization of currency and credit card terminals at the point-of-sale, primarily retail, now and well into the future.

Key to the CleanCash currency sanitization solution is the use of UVC light energy technology, which has been adopted due to several factors:

  • UVC is scientifically proven to kill up to 99.99% of viruses and other bacteria.
  • UVC sanitization can be rapid and cost-effective.
  • UVC light is naturally occurring and chemical-free.

CleanCash is developing their devices to be ideal for retail businesses that want to take a proactive approach to protect their customers and employees during and after the current global pandemic – without worrying about applying hand sanitizer after every transaction.

CleanCash has plans to provide its system worldwide at the completion of its development and certification of efficacy.

CleanCash is currently conducting a Title III offering on the equity crowdfunding platform StartEngine, where everyday investors can learn more about the technology, and potentially invest in the company at an early stage.

New Study Discovers the Secret to Successful Student/Professor Connections in Online College Classes

“We found that camera angle was most important for the social presence of a class. If there’s a really weird camera angle, looking at [the instructor’s] forehead or sinus cavity, it takes away from their credibility or their social presence.”

College students, especially recently, are wondering: will I actually be able to form a connection with my professor if my classes are online?

ODUOnline’s assistant vice president for technology Dr. Miguel Ramlatchan conducted a study to find out. In a recent article titled, “Enhancing Instructor Credibility and Immediacy in the Design of Distance Learning Systems and Virtual Classroom Environments” which appeared in the Journal of Applied Instructional Design, Ramlatchan detailed what he and his co-writer discovered, and the results might surprise you.

“We found that camera angle was most important for the social presence of a class,” he said. “If there’s a really weird camera angle, looking at [the instructor’s] forehead or sinus cavity, it takes away from their credibility or their social presence.”

Ramlatchan and his team examined several aspects of online learning which may play a part in how a student may view the credibility of an instructor. It wasn’t subject matter or the academic program that created a disconnect, so don’t worry about “boring” material. The age group of the students, whether or not they were used to online classes, or what type of device they used wasn’t as important either. It was all about how the camera was placed.

“Eye-level is the best scenario,” said Ramlatchan, before describing that good “eye contact” for a professor in an online lesson can enhance verbal cues, visual cues, tone, and expression. “These are all important to communication in general,” he explains, “but especially instruction.”

Ramlatchan oversees Old Dominion University’s Academic Technology Services department, which supports technology for online learning. This could involve everything from making sure ODU’s online professors have the correct camera equipment to setting up and managing complex streaming events with hundreds of participants.

Old Dominion University, located in the coastal city of Norfolk, is Virginia’s entrepreneurial-minded doctoral research university and has been delivering distance-learning programs for 30 years. It offers more than 100 programs through ODUOnline in a variety of formats, allowing students to complete degree programs across the world. ODU serves more than 24,000 students annually by providing the same rigorous academics online and on-campus. Learn more about ODUOnline’s programs by visiting online.odu.edu.

Elev8 Cannabis Announces Grand Opening in Athol, Massachusetts

We believe we’ve created both a safe and exciting retail space for the Athol community, Seun Adedeji, Elev8 Cannabis Founder and CEO

Elev8 Cannabis, an emerging adults-medical cannabis company with one dispensary in Eugene, Oregon, and three others to open by spring 2021 in Massachusetts, announced today the grand opening of its first Massachusetts dispensary. A ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at 1 pm at the dispensary. Its address is 243 Main St., in the city of Athol. Elev8 Cannabis is the first dispensary to open in the city and is the first African American-owned cannabis retail dispensary in western Massachusetts. With today’s announcement, Elev8 Cannabis becomes one of the largest African-American-owned cannabis chains and dispensaries in operation coast to coast.

Elev8 Cannabis Athol Grand Opening

The grand opening festivities will welcome customers inside its store with music, opportunities to meet the staff, and a chance to peruse and shop from an array of fully stocked shelves. Weedmaps swag bags will be distributed while supplies last. Visitors to the dispensary must be adults age 21 and older. The dispensary’s capacity is limited to 10 customers at a time. Everyone is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. “As a Roxbury resident, I am especially excited to open my first Massachusetts dispensary in Athol,” said Seun Adedeji, the founder and chief executive officer of Elev8 Cannabis. “Not only will the Athol community have access to high-quality cannabis health and wellness products, but they will also have a sleek retail environment to experience it and shop.”

The dispensary occupies a 2,000 square foot renovated building designed to provide customers with a memorable retail shopping experience. The floor plan allows for ample spacing between customers to support the social distancing requirements while shopping, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. “All in all, we believe we’ve created both a safe and exciting retail space for the Athol community,” said Adedeji. “We’ve even added a few extras to elevate customers’ enjoyment factor, including several fun interactive stations to create selfies and pictures and to write messages.”

Support for Cannabis Grows

Elev8 Cannabis Athol’s grand opening comes at a time in the country as more Americans support legalizing marijuana. Approximately two-thirds of Americans say they support legalizing marijuana, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey. “The steady transition to a legal, regulated cannabis market in Massachusetts is a good sign, particularly during this time of economic uncertainty and pain,” said Shaleen Title, a Commissioner of the Cannabis Control Commission in Worcester County. “As one of the people charged with ensuring that people of color and businesses of all sizes are encouraged and included in this state’s industry, it is heartening to see more minority-owned businesses like Elev8 Cannabis beginning to open, with many more licensed and in the pipeline to begin operating soon.”

The opening of two other Elev8 Cannabis dispensaries occurs next year in Orange and Williamstown.

About Elev8 Cannabis

Elev8 Cannabis was founded by Seun Adedeji in 2017 to bring a variety of high-quality health and wellness cannabis products to the public. To learn more about Elv8 Cannabis promotions and dispensaries, visit http://www.elev8cannabis.com

Eco-friendly Portable Power Station BASTRO Reaches Its Funding Goal on Kickstarter In Just 4 Hours

News Image

“We’re blown away by the support from our Kickstarter community. And we love the feedback we have gotten on how to refine our product to fit more of our backers’ needs,” said GOODBYECAR’s director Junhee Nam.

In just 4 hours, the GOODBYECAR team watched its first Kickstarter campaign with BASTRO hit over $10,000. Far less than half of Kickstarter’s projects ever reach this milestone, putting BASTRO high on the success rankings from Day 1.

BASTRO is a portable power station that carries 2,000Wh in 30lbs, which is 55% smaller in size and 40% lighter in weight than a portable power bank of equivalent capacity. Kickstarter backers have also raised interest in learning about its built-in battery management system (BMS). Its four temperature sensors are wired to prevent over-heating, over-charge, over-discharge, and more. BASTRO’s BMS also then sends prompt alerts to the user’s phone through its mobile app, letting them monitor the battery in real-time.

“We’re blown away by the support from our Kickstarter community. And we love the feedback we have gotten on how to refine our product to fit more of our backers’ needs,” said GOODBYECAR’s director Junhee Nam. He expresses his gratitude towards BASTRO’s backers for believing in their product despite having a denser reward price than most Kickstarter products in the tech category.

Nam assured the price reflects the high-quality lithium-ion battery type that runs BASTRO. Not only is it quieter and more power-efficient than other energy sources, but it also promotes sustainability for having a longer battery life and emitting far less carbon emission than gas generators. Lithium-ion is also commonly used in electric cars due to this nature.

Only a handful of Early Bird rewards currently remain, which puts BASTRO at its best deal of 35% off MSRP. The GOODBYECAR team is also giving out complimentary duffel bags exclusively to their Kickstarter backers during their 30-day campaign. To learn more about the team and BASTRO, please visit its Kickstarter campaign before its closing date of November 4, 2020.
