XIMEA Releases New Versions of HyperSpectral Cameras With Imec Sensors

xiSpec HyperSpectral Cameras

xiSpec HyperSpectral Cameras

»As a world-leading nanoelectronics R&D center, …, our collaboration with XIMEA has been a key element for our technology to find its way to the market« – Andy Lambrechts, program director at imec

While maintaining the previous dimensions of only 26.4 x 26.4 x 32 mm and a flyweight of mere 32g, the camera housing and the bandpass filters have been optimized to improve the spectral performance of the cameras. Each xiSpec2 camera is individually calibrated.

The new xiSpec2 camera series come with high spectral fidelity and consists of the following models:

Camera model, Description, Spectral range, Spectral bands

  • MQ022HG-IM-SM4X4-VIS2, Snapshot visible light, 480 – 625 nm, 10 channels
  • MQ022HG-IM-SM4X4-RN2, Snapshot Red-NIR, 600 – 860 nm, 15 channels
  • MQ022HG-IM-SM5X5-NIR2, Snapshot NIR, 665 – 960 nm, 24 channels
  • MQ022HG-IM-LS150-VN2, Line scan 150 VIS-NIR, 470 – 900 nm, 150 channels

All details and data sheets can be found here: https://www.ximea.com/en/products-news/hyperspectral-imaging-camera-small

New starter kits will be offered matching the new cameras to ensure a smooth start-up and spectral data quality.

The snapshot cameras will be delivered with imec’s HSI-Mosaic suite.

This means access to imec’s hyperspectral API (including manuals and sample data) and XIMEA’s camera SDK.

The line scan cameras will be sold to OEM customers after clarification of the project use.

As part of the collaboration, XIMEA and imec plan to offer xiSpec customers tailored support to integrate the hyperspectral cameras into their application.

The standard xiSpec2 cameras come with USB3 micro-B connectors.

For projects where integration into limited space is required, models with USB3 flat-ribbon connection or PCIe interface will also be available in a later phase.

The PCIe interface enables bandwidths of 10 Gbit/s with the lowest power consumption and allows access to the maximum framerate potential of the sensors.

The new xiSpec2 cameras can be ordered and delivered starting in December 2020.

“As a world-leading nanoelectronics R&D center, imec has developed unique CMOS-based hyperspectral imaging technology that, over the years, has resulted in a set of top-class hyperspectral image sensors and hyperspectral camera solutions with extreme compactness, low weight and high reliability. Our collaboration with XIMEA has been a key element for our technology to find its way to the market,” stated Andy Lambrechts, program director at imec. “With this extension of the collaboration with XIMEA, we take a next step. By offering our tailored technical support to xiSpec2 customers, we guarantee the quality needed to fully reap the capabilities of this promising technology.”

What are hyperspectral imaging cameras ?

Conventional color cameras use a mosaic pattern of red, green and blue (RGB) color filters on top of the pixel matrix.

Hyperspectral cameras replace the RGB pattern with a combination of many different wavelength filters.

The numerous color filters attached to standard cameras increase the complexity of the de-mosaicking and reduce the spatial resolution.

The new HSI cameras deliver spectra for individual narrow bands with a different set of data that can indicate the (bio)chemical state or composition of the objects.

Thanks to the high frame rate of the image sensor, these cameras ensure detailed and crisp captures of moving objects at multiple wavelengths in real-time.

Thereby the objects can be moved orthogonally to the horizontal color filters of a mounted camera, e.g. on a conveyor belt, or attached to UAV.

The visual and near-infrared (NIR) spectrum of these cameras is especially relevant in agriculture.

For more information, you can check the below documentation and other materials or contact XIMEA team and find out what HSI can add to your business.

Colorado Agency Hires Mainstream Technologies

Mainstream Technologies, Inc., began development recently on a new software project for the State of Colorado. The expected 18-month contract is to redesign and replace the software used by the Colorado Office of Community Corrections (OCC), an office within the Criminal Justice division of the Colorado Department of Public Safety. The existing software, known as the Community Corrections Information and Billing System (CCIB), has reached its end of useful service and no longer meets the needs of the OCC.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE EXPERIENCE

Mainstream was selected after a six-month nationwide search for custom software vendors. Mainstream’s prior experience developing software in accordance with the FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) requirements was an important factor in the selection process.

In addition to the software development work, Mainstream will also provide hosting and security services through the IT and Security Services divisions of the company. Mainstream’s achievement in early 2020 of SOC2 / Type II certification for its datacenter and IT services was instrumental in qualifying Mainstream for that part of the contract.

MAJOR PROJECT

The replacement of the CCIB system is considered a Major Project by the Office of Information Technology. A Major Project means the project has a specific level of business criticality and manifests either a security risk or an operational risk as determined by a comprehensive

risk assessment performed by the OIT.

“This is a very important contract to Mainstream,” said Jeff Byers, Vice President of Software Services at Mainstream Technologies. “It is important not only because of its significance to Colorado and its scope, but because it increases Mainstream’s footprint in state government work nationwide.” Mainstream has multiple long-term contracts with state government agencies in Arkansas, South Carolina, and now Colorado.

ABOUT THE CCIB

The Community Corrections Information and Billing System is the exclusive method by which community corrections contractors and subcontractors request payments, and in which offender services are tracked. The system is the central hub within the Office of Community Corrections for transactions of state appropriations for community corrections and the related tracking of important offender programmatic, statistical, and demographic data. In addition to processing nearly 4,500 invoices annually for the $81 million in appropriations, the CCIB system is also used to document over 1,000 criminal background checks annually. TruckX launches wired and ruggedized ELD for fleets

TruckX wired ELD tablet

TruckX wired ELD tablet

The wired ELD setup removes technical and communication hassles associated with bluetooth ELD solutions.

Based on market demand, ELD market leader TruckX has introduced a ruggedized wired ELD setup as an extension to its already popular bluetooth ELD product line. The company witnesses excellent reception for its bluetooth ELD solution, seeing deployment across tens of thousands of trucks in North America.

With the launch of the ruggedized wired ELD setup, TruckX becomes the first major ELD provider in the market to offer both bluetooth and wired ELD options to its user base. The setup comes with the ruggedized ELD tablet, docking station, mount, and a dual-network SIM card. The ELD tablet has an IP66 rating, making it dust-proof and waterproof. It also has a five-foot drop resistance, while clearing anti-vibration and shock standards set by the U.S. military.

“TruckX already has a great bluetooth ELD offering that is very easy to install and works great for the drivers and trucking companies. However, trucking is not an easy job, and there are many variables on the road. In such a work environment, most of the regular tablets do not last long. Ruggedized form factor helps, especially in places where there are dust, heat and extreme cold — instances when trucks are parked overnight or days in an open environment,” said Tapan Chaudhari, the founder and CEO of TruckX.

The ruggedized ELD device can be mounted over the cab in minutes with a single wire and four screws. The setup can withstand high temperatures inside the parking lot and is resistant to daily wear and tear. A solid docking station is mounted on the dashboard, charging the tablet at all times. The setup comes with a dual-network SIM card and is connected to the cloud.

TruckX’s advent into wired ELD design is a result of fleets asking for ELD setups that do not require drivers to call in for constant technical support. TruckX wired ELDs provide a dependable in-cab experience for drivers, recreating the same user interface of the incumbent bluetooth ELD solution. The setup is hardwired to the truck’s engine, providing readings that are reliable 24/7.

“This is a great solution as it saves our drivers a lot of trouble with figuring out complicated functionalities that other market options come with,” said Taranjit, the owner of LHD Transport. “Being ruggedized while maintaining a small form factor makes it convenient to remain fixed in the cab at all times.”

About TruckX:

Started in 2016, TruckX is focused on using the power of technology to solve the problems of the trucking industry, the backbone of the nation’s economy. TruckX helps truckers and trucking companies become more efficient and stay safe while on the road or otherwise. TruckX is a leader in the Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) market, helping tens of thousands of truckers comply with FMCSA regulations painlessly. TruckX is now the only major ELD provider to have both Bluetooth and Wired ELD setup.
