Elev8 Cannabis Temporarily Closes After Associate Is Exposed to COVID-19

In its ongoing support to slow the spread of COVID-19 throughout Massachusetts, Elev8 Cannabis today announced that it is temporarily closing its Athol dispensary after a store associate was exposed to someone who tested positive for the virus. The closure is effective immediately and does not affect the company’s online store or its dispensary in Eugene, Oregon. The Athol dispensary is expected to reopen in several days.

“After learning about our associate’s exposure to COVID-19, we decided to act quickly and close the dispensary temporarily. Although our associate does not have COVID-19, closing allows us time to test our entire staff to be extra safe,” said Seun Adedeji, Elev8 Cannabis’s chief executive officer and founder. “More than anything, we are taking every extra precaution to ensure we are doing our part to protect the Athol community and our associates, which will ultimately help support the state-wide efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19.”

Elev8 Cannabis Athol opened in October this year where it has seen robust support and business from cannabis users in the surrounding community and nearby cities. “We have become a great resource for the since opening and I can imagine how disruptive closing is to our customers particularly for our veterans and other people who rely on us for medicinal cannabis,” Adedeji said. “But after hearing the Massachusetts Department of Health’s announcement this week about the 4,700 new COVID-19 cases we believed it best to close temporarily. Thankfully, we’ll use this brief time to thoroughly disinfect the dispensary, have our entire team tested, and then look forward to reopening knowing that our dispensary and our staff are entirely safe.”

Due to the growing COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts, the Baker Administration has recently put stricter guidelines in place, including a stay at home advisory, strengthened mask order, and early business closures. “We are definitely living through unprecedented times, but with vigilance and safety protocols, we’ll get past this,” Adedeji said.

“And, to our customers, we’re still here for you on our online store http://www.elev8cannabis.com, we will be back to service you in person and treat you like gold in the store asap.”

Device Census Report Surveys Wearables Landscape and Provides Recommendations for Clinical Study and Trial Applications

Litmus Health Logo

Litmus Health

To appropriately analyze data collected outside of a clinical setting, researchers need access to minimally transformed data and extensive documentation behind each device maker’s data transformations. The Device Census Report from Litmus gives the industry an at-a-glance reference.

Litmus Health, the research-ready infrastructure platform for real world data, today announced the publication of the second volume of the company’s Device Census Report. The report provides a detailed look into the wearable device landscape, providing analysis of 40 top devices’ sensors and metrics, data capture and transparency, as well as overall suitability for clinical research and patient care. The Litmus Health Device Census Report is the only comprehensive report that examines the wearables landscape through the lens of clinical research available.

Volume Two has updated inclusion criteria to reflect the pharmaceutical industry’s adoption of real world data. Surveying over 40 devices and representing 26 individual brands, the new report recommends the top 12 devices for clinical trial applications.

To appropriately analyze data collected outside of a clinical setting, researchers need access to minimally transformed data and extensive documentation behind each device maker’s data transformations. The Device Census Report from Litmus gives the industry an at-a-glance reference, allowing pharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations to quickly determine the best device for their specific applications and requirements.

“Now more than ever, access to minimally transformed, real world data is becoming a necessity in the pharmaceutical world,” said Dr. Samuel Volchenboum, co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Litmus. “Through our own work at Litmus, we have seen the industry’s growing adoption of real world data — as well as pharma’s frustration at opaque data standards from these device makers. As we continue to encourage the industry to adopt consistent data standards, our report has become a go-to resource for researchers and clinicians. We hope it continues to enable them to effectively incorporate real world data into their trials.”

The latest volume of the report continues to provide a Transparency Score for each device maker — a measure of each device makers’ commitment to data transparency. Litmus has determined device maker Transparency Scores by evaluating how much information is publicly available to researchers, such as evidence of data transformation, developer documentation, and availability of a more in-depth application programming interface (API) or software development kit (SDK) to use for clinical purposes. The report also takes into consideration whether a device maker has an active developer base with adequate technical support for researchers.

As Litmus’ experts have advised customers over the past several years, any choice of wearable requires a careful assessment of study needs and insights into the compromises that may be made with the choice of any device. The report encourages researchers and clinicians to select a device that best serves their research goals and analysis plan.

Inclusion criteria for devices in the second volume include:

  • Wrist or hand-worn, as opposed to patches, ingestible, or environmental sensors
  • Intended to capture continuous or near-continuous data, as opposed to form factors only suited to workouts or, for example, sensors that default to sleep mode except during workouts
  • Primarily intended to capture data about a human, rather than its environment
  • Intended to capture data beyond a clinical setting; i.e., in a real-world setting
  • Designed to capture heart rate data at a minimum
  • Focused on real-world data, including Average Daily Living and Physical Activity Intensity
  • Dedicated to applications of the device within the pharma and research industries, as opposed to purely concentrated on consumer fitness applications

Device makers represented in the report include:

  • Actigraph
  • Apple
  • Fitbit
  • Garmin
  • Oura
  • POLAR
  • Samsung
  • WHOOP

Cornell Dubilier Expands Flat Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor Line, which now withstand 150 °C and 80g Vibration

Cornell Dubilier Electronics, Inc. (CDE) has expanded its line of high performance flat electrolytic capacitors with the NHR Series. Able to withstand operating temperatures from –55 °C to 150 °C, NHR capacitors are constructed with rectangular stainless-steel cases and laser-welded covers that prevent dry-out. These capacitors have a 3,000-hour life at full-rated conditions and withstand up to 80g vibration to meet the most demanding military, aerospace, industrial, and down-hole applications.

Type NHR is a spin-off of the company’s Flatpack series that has been proven in military and aerospace applications for nearly 30 years. “Our NHR Flatpack technology offers exceedingly long life at high temperature for critical applications that previously have been the domain of wet-tantalum capacitors,” said Mario DiPietro, Product Manager for Cornell Dubilier. “Their high-capacitance density at high voltage and temperature solves many of the problems faced by engineers designing circuits for extreme environments,” continued DiPietro. The company claims it has had considerable success in helping its customers replace large series-parallel banks of wet tantalum capacitors with fewer components, saving them valuable space, weight and cost.

Components within the NHR series are available from 75 Vdc through 300 Vdc with capacitance values ranging from 60 µF to 960 µF. There are four case lengths available in 0.5” increments from 1.5” to 3.0”. All cases measure 0.5” thin by 1.0” wide. The series has a load life of 3,000 hours at 150°C, withstands up to 50g vibration on the three largest cases, and up to 80g on the smallest case size. The series has been tested for altitudes up to 80,000 ft.

Potential applications include any high-performance circuits that require large capacitance bulk storage and filtering at high temperature. These include power supplies and inverters for avionics, military electronics, and such energy industry applications as down-hole recording devices.
