SIUE Student Affairs Names Boddie Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion

SIUE Associate Dean of Students for Diversity and Inclusion and Director of Counseling Services Courtney Boddie, PhD.

“We now need to focus on infusing equity-mindedness in all aspects of practice. This is part in parcel of how we institutionalize factors like anti-racism.”

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Jeffrey Waple, PhD, has amplified the leadership of Courtney Boddie, PhD, director of Counseling Services, with the added role of Associate Dean of Students for Diversity and Inclusion.

Boddie is a respected campus leader with extensive experience and academic expertise in the areas of minority stress and cultural trauma, both of which link culture to psychological wellness.

As Associate Dean of Students for Diversity and Inclusion, he will serve as a member of the Student Affairs Senior Leadership Team and a divisional consultant to offer support services, review policies and contribute to training. He will chair the Division of Student Affairs Diversity and Inclusion Committee, oversee the progress and implementation of the Student Affairs portions of the University Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan, and serve as a divisional liaison for multiple initiatives being led across campus.

“I look forward to working with Dr. Boddie and our entire Division on these critical issues, and to create action steps to advance professional practice and remove institutional barriers in order to improve student success, retention and graduation,” said Waple. “In this role, Dr. Boddie will provide oversight to our diversity and inclusion efforts with emphasis on policy, training, consultation and connectivity.”

“Dr. Boddie brings many talents to this new role, including his own lived experiences and expertise in multicultural counseling,” added Dean of Students Kara Shustrin. “We are excited to have Dr. Boddie on the Student Affairs leadership team to guide us in looking at the division from a 30,000-foot view, and to review policies, training, programs, staff hiring and development, with diversity and inclusion as a centerpiece to better serve our students.”

Boddie asserts that to be student-ready, culture needs to be centralized as a major variable for decision-making. According to Boddie, students need to be engaged as cultural beings, who possess group identities, stressors and strengths.

“As higher education has diversified, it has yet to jettison its original design, one crafted to work only for white, wealthy, young, highly verbal, cishet, able, U.S.-born men,” he said. “As such, in a reactionary manner, we are often attempting to retrofit a clunky and inflexible system to accommodate cultural differences. This must change. We now need to focus on infusing equity-mindedness in all aspects of practice. This is part in parcel of how we institutionalize factors like anti-racism.”

Boddie aims to apply his professional skills and themes of triage, assessment, diagnosis and treatment to support the division in fulfilling its commitment to student readiness.

“As a mental health provider, my job is to quickly establish a trusting relationship in the rich cultural context of a patient’s life,” Boddie explained. “Ultimately, I seek to support the patient in becoming aware of and motivated to change problematic patterns in living.”

“As director of the center that provides these services,” he continued, “I am a veritable treasure trove of structural, institutional and interpersonal ills of a cultural nature. I note this as my professional practices are grounded in our fields’ multicultural and social justice competencies. These competencies guide us not only to address concerns as they present to the clinic, but also require that we engage in structural advocacy to reduce the likelihood that said concerns would present at all.”

An accomplished academic and proven student champion, Boddie knows the challenges will be many, but believes the SIUE community has a genuine interest in overcoming challenges and removing barriers in order to dismantle systemic racism.

“While my role will centralize and streamline divisional diversity and inclusion efforts, I am in no way a compliance or optics officer,” he concluded. “I am here to support everyone in doing their work as individuals and professionals committed to true student readiness.”

Boddie has been director of Counseling Services since July 2017 and served as interim director of the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion from October 2018-Jan. 2020.

He is actively engaged in University service, including initiatives such as Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation, Scholarly Connections and Rewarding Engagement, African American Male Initiative, University Diversity Council, and the Anti-Racism Task Force. He teaches courses in the Department of Psychology, including Psychosocial Foundation of African American Worldviews and Multicultural Counseling.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville provides students with a high quality, affordable education that prepares them for successful careers and lives of purpose to shape a changing world. Built on the foundation of a broad-based liberal education, and enhanced by hands-on research and real-world experiences, the academic preparation SIUE students receive equips them to thrive in the global marketplace and make our communities better places to live. Situated on 2,660 acres of beautiful woodland atop the bluffs overlooking the natural beauty of the Mississippi River’s rich bottomland and only a short drive from downtown St. Louis, the SIUE campus is home to a diverse student body of more than 13,000.

Metavivor Announces New President Of The Board Of Directors

News Image

METAvivor Research and Support Inc., a national non-profit organization dedicated to funding research for Stage IV metastatic breast cancer (MBC), announces its first black president, Jamil K. Rivers of Philadelphia, PA.

Jamil was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer de novo at age 39. Determined to fight to live for her children, husband and family, she researched vigorously to learn how to best prepare for the challenge before her and to survive. She continues to work full-time as a nonprofit CFO and live an active life. She believes that the research she did to prepare herself for her cancer journey has been critical in her recovery and overall wellness.

She became an advocate to use her voice and experiences to help advance legislative policy, medical research and customize support to better meet the needs of individuals impacted by breast cancer, particularly metastatic and African-American patients. She regularly connects women and men to resources for screening, treatment and support. Jamil has participated in countless community health events and has facilitated the design and funding of two metastatic clinical trials. She continues to be an advocate for those living with metastatic cancer in Pennsylvania and Washington, DC including presenting testimony to the FDA.

Jamil has also been featured in People Magazine, CBS News, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Tribune, national campaigns for Anthropologie, Novartis, Pfizer, Cancer and Careers as well as Good Morning America. In addition to her knowledge and experience with metastatic breast cancer, Jamil has over 20 years of experience in financial management and nonprofit leadership.

“In my new role as Board President of METAvivor, I plan to contribute to METAvivor’s mission of transitioning metastatic breast cancer from a terminal illness to a chronic, manageable disease with a good quality of life,” said Rivers.

Metastatic breast cancer (also known as Stage IV or advanced stage cancer) is the spread of breast cancer to other parts of the body — most commonly to the bones, liver, lungs and/or brain. Approximately 30% of breast cancer patients metastasize, with the mean survival after diagnosis being 33 months. In the US, only 2-5% of all cancer research funds are dedicated to Stage IV cancer research – yet 98% of all breast cancer deaths are caused by a metastasis.

ABOUT METAVIVOR

Timely Launch of RPS Public Entity Program on Instec Policy System

Instec Policy enables RPS to launch new public entity programs.

Instec Policy enables RPS to launch new public entity programs.

“Instec’s rapid implementation process allowed us to bring our new program to market just when it was needed most.”

Instec, the market leader in software for insurance programs and complex commercial insurance, announced today that Risk Placement Services (RPS) has implemented the Instec Policy system for its new public-entity program.

In April 2020, RPS announced a new public entity program in partnership with Munich Re Specialty Insurance (MRSI), the insurance business operations of affiliated companies in the Munich Re Group that share a common directive to offer and deliver specialty property and casualty insurance products and services in North America.

The program addresses the unique risks faced by municipalities and special districts with a first-dollar, low-deductible insurance product. The packaged program includes general, auto, law enforcement, public officials, and employment practices liability, and can be supplemented with active-shooter, special events, cyber, and worker’s compensation coverages.

The new RPS program is the company’s second strategic expansion on Instec. It follows the successful implementation of Instec Policy by RPS affiliate RPS Bollinger for its Golf Courses & Clubs program.

The RPS public entity project began in December 2019. Little did the team know that two weeks before scheduled completion, everyone would be ordered to work from home as the country responded to the coronavirus pandemic. Despite this, the project was completed ahead of schedule, in less than 90 days, and the system went live in late March.

The launch of the new program couldn’t have been more timely. Public entities were already facing a host of risks, from cyber threats to active shooters to natural catastrophes. Then the coronavirus pandemic hit, and on its heels the eruption of anti-brutality protests, placing law enforcement and public officials under the microscope.

“Public entities face greater exposures today than ever before,” said Bob Lombard, area president of RPS-PNP, national program administrator for the public entity program. “Instec’s rapid implementation process allowed us to bring our new program to market just when it was needed most.”

With the successful launch of two new programs, RPS is looking ahead at opportunities to bring more programs onto the Instec system.

What Are The Top Advantages Of Using Online Car Insurance Quotes

News Image

“Comparing only quotes at least once every six months can help you find better insurance deals and save a lot of money”, said Russell Rabichev, Marketing Director of Internet Marketing Company.

Compare-autoinsurance.org has launched a new blog post that explains the benefits drivers gain when using online car insurance quotes.

For more info and free online quotes, please visit https://compare-autoinsurance.org/the-pros-of-using-auto-insurance-quotes-online/

The internet has changed the way people select and purchase their products. Everything is simpler and more convenient. These radical changes also applied to the car insurance industry. The methods used by drivers to search and buy car insurance are now different than the methods used before the appearance of the internet.

The main reasons for using online quotes are the following:

  • Online quotes can be obtained at any time. Obtaining and comparing online quotes can be done from anywhere and at any time. Drivers are no longer required to go from one insurance company physical location to another to gain a few quotes. To obtain multiple online car insurance quotes, drivers only need a stable internet connection.
  • Online quotes are free. Both brokerage and insurers websites are offering free online quotes. Drivers don’t have to pay a car insurance agent in order to get a few quotes.
  • Online quotes are very accurate. The rate calculators used by insurance companies can offer really accurate quotes. To be that precise, these rates calculator use statistical models, sophisticated algorithms and economical data. However, an online quote can only be accurate if the data provided by a user is also accurate.
  • Obtain access to several discounts. While completing an online questionnaire, drivers can gain access to several discounts. The online form can promote a bundling discount to those who bundle their car insurance with home insurance. But that’s not the only discount that can be promoted on an online questionnaire. Multi-car policy discount, safety gear discounts, low-mileage discount, or good driver discounts are just a few of the discounts that can be promoted.
  • Online quotes can help drivers to decide if it’s time to switch their carriers. Drivers should obtain quotes and compare quotes at least two times per year. Drivers who notice that the average price of the compared quotes is way lower than the current insurance prices should contact their insurers and demand an explanation. If the explanation is not plausible, then drivers should switch their insurers.

For additional info, money-saving tips and free car insurance quotes, visit https://compare-autoinsurance.org/

Compare-autoinsurance.org is an online provider of life, home, health, and auto insurance quotes. This website is unique because it does not simply stick to one kind of insurance provider, but brings the clients the best deals from many different online insurance carriers. In this way, clients have access to offers from multiple carriers all in one place: this website. On this site, customers have access to quotes for insurance plans from various agencies, such as local or nationwide agencies, brand names insurance companies, etc.

Whissel Realty Sets East San Diego County Record With $750,000 Condo Sale

Aerial photo of a condo complex in La Mesa

Drone imagery shows the unit’s proximity to La Mesa Village

To set this record is humbling to begin with, but factor in the extraordinary challenges of selling during a global pandemic and it becomes even more so.

Longtime San Diego-based Whissel Realty Group has set an outstanding record by selling East County’s highest-priced condominium to date! Closing at $750,000, the La Mesa residence’s segment-leading sale price is the result of a prime location in fashionable La Mesa Village, a keen use of cutting-edge technology, and the unparalleled experience of Kyle Whissel and his team.

“I am thrilled for my clients and my team,” noted Whissel, CEO and Team Leader. “To set this record is humbling to begin with, but factor in the extraordinary challenges of selling during a global pandemic and it becomes even more so. We beat the previous record for the sale price of an attached home by 10%, and shattered East County’s average condo sale price of $360,000.”

Whissel explained that his company’s cutting-edge technology allowed prospective buyers to tour the home in 3D online while being able to live chat with himself and his team, providing an experience as close to being inside the actual home as possible. Whissel Realty Group also coordinated with its contractor and staging professionals to give the home a fresh, up-to-date vibe that greatly appeals to today’s buyers.

“We also relied heavily upon aerial video and photography to showcase the condo’s prime location,” Whissel added. “It’s right in the heart of La Mesa’s awesome La Mesa Village, which is fast becoming the place to be in East County. It offers shops, trolley access and restaurants that cater to a wide variety of lifestyles, and they’re all just a quick elevator ride from the condo.”

On the market for just 20 days, the top-floor condominium was built in 1992 and offers three bedrooms and three baths in approximately 3,110 square feet. High ceilings, multiple decks with panoramic city and mountain views, an open den and an island kitchen are displayed, and unlike most attached homes, it does not share a wall with neighboring residences. Many of the home’s features are original, with Whissel’s professionals adding fresh paint and designer touches throughout.

Whissel Realty Group, brokered by eXp Realty, is a family-owned and operated real estate company based in San Diego, California. The company was founded in the 1970s by Robert Whissel and is now owned and operated by his son, Kyle Whissel. With offices in San Diego’s North Park and Santee communities, its goals are to help buyers find the perfect home at the perfect price, and help sellers sell their homes for top dollar in the shortest amount of time. The team’s proactive and innovative approach to marketing consistently delivers on these goals.

Whissel Realty Group was named #1 in San Diego for the 6th consecutive year by REAL Trends, as advertised in The Wall Street Journal. To get an instant home value and see what you can sell your property for in today’s market, visit Home.KyleWhissel.com or call 619-330-0056.
