As Cannabis Industry Sales Approach $5 Billion This Year, Irwin Naturals Launches more than 100 CBD Products to Help Stores Keep Up with Demand

Irwin Naturals Leads the CBD Health Craze with 100 New CBD Products

We got lucky! We took a chance two years ago that the law would go our way. Now we’re the only legacy company with mass market relationships and a broad line of CBD products ready to launch

25-year old legacy company, Irwin Naturals, will introduce dozens of new cannabidiol (CBD) products next month and announce its ambitious market projections in CBD distribution. The announcement comes after the company’s 2-year R&D head-start against other legacy companies in the CBD products space.

With the FDA and federal lawmakers expected to curtail rules restricting CBD distribution this fall, industry experts predict a land grab is about to begin for retail shelf space and distribution channels of CBD brands in the mass market. While new CBD companies can achieve distribution in health food stores and dispensaries, retail industry experts believe mainstream pharmacies and grocery stores will prefer to partner with longstanding, well-established legacy companies with proven, scalable distribution channels. Irwin Naturals, a leading international supplier of high quality natural health, herbal and nutritional supplements, may be the front runner in the race to dominate the booming CBD market because of a gamble the company took two years ago.

In late 2017, at a time when few industry experts and virtually no consumers knew about CBD or its health benefits, Irwin Naturals began investment in the development of over 100 different products infused with cannabidiol, a compound found in cannabis plants. The decision to invest came nearly two years earlier than most of its largest competitors. Company managers, including founder Klee Irwin, predicted that the market would explode in popularity once U.S. lawmakers passed legislation that would legalize the cultivation of hemp and the sale of products derived from hemp. Their prescient gamble paid off on December 20th, 2018, when President Donald Trump signed the Agricultural Improvement Act, legislation that lifted restrictions on hemp and CBD product development, effectively giving a first-mover advantage to Irwin Naturals.

Now, Irwin’s CBD products are ready to hit the mass market in a rapid sweep. Over 100 CBD products, spread across four brand categories, were birthed from Irwin’s R&D effort. The brands are; the Irwin Naturals brand for CBD infused oil drops, supplements and balms; HydroCanna for CBD skincare; FloChi for CBD based foods and beverages and Love My Pet for animals.

According to the Brightfield Group, a Chicago-based market research firm studying the industry, U.S. sales of CBD products is projected to hit $5 billion by the end of the year, an increase of more than 700% compared with 2018 sales. The firm also predicts the CBD market will surpass $22 billion in annual sales by the year 2022. Typically, more than 80% of all sales in particular consumer product categories occur in mass market outlets and warehouse chains where Irwin Naturals has longstanding distribution relationships. In fact, because of the relationships it maintains with the largest warehouse chains in the U.S., Irwin Naturals managers predict the company will be the distribution leader in the land-grab toward market dominance of this disruptive new mega-category.

The Brightfield Group also published an article stating, “Irwin Naturals is well-positioned to effectively leverage existing distribution networks and customer relationships to market products already tied to a trusted brand.” In addition, the Green Market Report, a publication focused on financial news rapidly growing cannabis industry said, “Irwin Naturals turned heads when Klee Irwin, the founder of the company, announced giving away $1 million worth of CBD products to honor the passing of the Farm Bill. The company is concerned with making the cost of CBD products affordable, saying ‘Our mission is to spread health to the world through plant medicine. Our nation is on the edge. And I am worried about the future of our children. If we can make CBD affordable and accessible to the masses, it just might help our country avoid a meltdown.’”

Founder Irwin, author of the CBD book, Pain Nation, said, “We got lucky. We took a chance two years ago that the law would go our way. Now, we’re sort of alone as the only large legacy company with strong mass market relationships and a broad line of CBD products ready to launch. For decades, we’ve sold to over 100,000 outlets in the US alone. In the last eight months, we’ve secured agreement from nearly all of the largest chains to take our CBD products. Money is not our primary motivation. We want to get CBD to people at a lower cost – the type of cost anyone can afford. And our chain store partners love this philosophy. So, we’ve been selected for first distribution of our products by most of the big chains versus the smaller and higher priced CBD companies that sell products online or to dispensaries. In the future, our large competitors will also enter the CBD space. But, for now, we can easily execute our national mindshare branding and distribution strategy and be the dominate player when the smoke clears in the next few years to reveal the pending $20+ billion CBD industry.’”

This is the second consecutive year Rx relief has made this list, moving up from number 28 in 2018 to number 27 in 2019.

Reflecting continued robust growth within the U.S. healthcare staffing market, each of the elite organizations named to this list generated over $25 million in U.S. staffing revenue in 2018. According to Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) estimates, these organizations collectively generated more than $2.3 billion in U.S. allied healthcare temporary staffing revenue last year, accounting for 58% of the market. For the purposes of the report, SIA defined “allied healthcare” temporary staffing firms as those providing temporary healthcare professionals such as therapists (physical, occupational and speech), imaging technicians, phlebotomists and pharmacists.

“We’re thrilled to be named as one of the largest U.S. allied healthcare staffing firms for a second straight year,” said George Rogers, Founder and CEO of PrideStaff. “Rx relief continues to grow as a leader in this segment by providing the industry’s best temporary and full-time pharmacy professionals in all types of pharmacy organizations. New Research Offers Valuable Insight into Business Survival in 2020

News Image

The research is published in a white paper titled:
“Inspiring Innovation: Fostering a Courageous Culture of Micro-Innovators, Problem Solvers, and Customer Advocates”

Automation and technological advances are easy to replicate. It’s the companies that tap into what humans do best—think creatively and solve complex problems– alongside these technological advances that will differentiate the customer and employee experience.

Recognized on Inc’s list of Most Innovative Leadership Speakers, Karin Hurt and David Dye have released research results to improve long-suffering company culture and relationships between owners and employees. If executives are asking for employee input, what exactly silences and fosters distance between the C-Suite and the workforce?

Their extensive consultancy work exposed a frustrating disparity within many businesses. “Our inspiration for this research were leaders frustrated by a lack of problem-solving ideas from their teams,” Hurt and Dye state. “There’s a disconnect between employees and employers. We wanted to understand the reason for this lack of communication.”

Rather than relying on data procured only through consultant work, Hurt and Dye collaborated with the University of Northern Colorado for their cross-industry study of 1400 respondents. Their research illuminates both the origins of the problem and the best ways to ameliorate the issues.

As more companies shift to automation of easier tasks, they still desire a return on investment; therefore, speaking up is increasingly important. Hurt and Dye stress that human creativity and critical thinking inspire success in ways electronics cannot and well-intentioned management may be inadvertently discouraging feedback. Employees shy away from voicing opinions for fear of negative consequences, belief that nothing will change, and that they won’t get credit for their ideas. The lost wisdom wastes time, money, and innovative human resources. In addition, millennials and Gen Zs who watched parents struggle through corporate frustrations and recessions can be already difficult to retain within organizations.

“Building relationships is the key,” Dye explains. “56% of people said the number one reason they wouldn’t share an idea is that they wouldn’t get credit. 40% lack the confidence to speak up. It takes intentional effort for leaders to build trust and connection to overcome this negative inertia and equip employees with the skills and confidence to question the status quo thoughtfully.”

Hurt and Dye’s mission is to empower leaders and encourage employee input through solution-based thinking. Their strategies focus on three tiers:

1: Challenges: Why the fear of speaking up is problematic.

2: Best Approaches: Techniques that encourage employees to articulate professional opinions.

3: Recipes for Success: Methods for cultivating an environment of solutions-based individuals.

“Automation and technological advances are easy to replicate. It’s the companies that tap into what humans do best—think creatively and solve complex problems– alongside these technological advances that will differentiate the customer and employee experience,” Hurt adds.

Gauss Announces Triton Platform Update to Power Maternal Hemorrhage Response

News Image

We have adopted the Triton platform across multiple facilities at Providence, and the integration of hemorrhage protocols and provider alerts will help us to deliver the best quality of maternal care, consistent with the Joint Commission’s new perinatal safety standard.

Gauss, the leader in AI-enabled surgical applications, announced an over-the-air software update, Triton QBL, that pairs the company’s AI-powered blood loss monitor with integrated protocols and provider alerts that help to synchronize postpartum hemorrhage care. The update will be available to the company’s network of hospital customers this fall.

The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate in the developed world (1). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 60 percent of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable (2). Postpartum hemorrhage is the leading preventable cause of maternal morbidity and mortality (3), and obstetrics organizations such as the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC) recommend use of standardized hemorrhage management protocols (4,5).

On August 21, 2019, The Joint Commission, the body that accredits approximately 77 percent of hospitals in the United States, announced a perinatal safety guideline that requires accredited hospitals to “develop written, evidence-based procedures for stage-based management of pregnant and postpartum patients who experience maternal hemorrhage” incorporating “the use of an evidence-based tool that includes an algorithm for identification and treatment of hemorrhage.” (6) This new standard will go into effect July 1, 2020.

“Management of maternal hemorrhage with stage-based protocols based on cumulative, quantitative blood loss is imperative for safe obstetric care,” said David Lagrew, M.D., executive medical director of Women’s Services at Providence St. Joseph’s Health and co-chair of the CMQCC Maternal Quality Care Collaborative’s Hemorrhage Task Force. “We have adopted the Triton platform across multiple facilities at Providence, and the integration of hemorrhage protocols and provider alerts will help us to deliver the best quality of maternal care, consistent with the Joint Commission’s new perinatal safety standard.”

Triton is the only FDA-cleared and CE Marked system for blood loss monitoring in surgery and obstetrics. It leverages computer vision and the CoreML capability of the iPad and iPhone to monitor blood loss from images captured by the TrueDepth sensor. Triton adoption has grown by more than 100 percent year-over-year, and Gauss’s U.S. customers perform approximately 250,000 deliveries per year (7). Researchers at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York recently published an independent 7,600 patient study in the International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia on the use of Triton to power a stage-based hemorrhage protocol. The use of Triton was associated with a 340 percent increase in hemorrhage recognition, a 34 percent reduction in delayed interventions to control bleeding in vaginal deliveries, reduced transfusion dose in Caesarean sections, and cost savings leading to a 152 percent return on investment (8).

Triton QBL is compatible with both iPhone and iPad platforms and enables hospitals to embed their own hemorrhage protocols and set customized alerts based on quantified blood loss (QBL) thresholds, delivering real-time guidance to clinicians and facilitating communication and rapid response during an emerging hemorrhage. U.S. hospitals are rapidly adopting smartphones to improve communication and collaboration among clinical teams (9), and Triton’s new iPhone compatibility delivers a mobile platform that enables health systems to leverage their IT investment in enterprise-issued phones.

“We are incredibly excited about this significant evolution of the Triton system to power hemorrhage protocols and support better maternal care,” said Siddarth Satish, founder and chief executive officer of Gauss. “With hundreds of thousands of enterprise-issued iPhones in use by clinical staff in hospitals today, these latest developments enable us to extend the benefits of our AI-enabled patient safety platform to many more patients and healthcare providers.”

About Gauss

Gauss is transforming surgery with an AI-enabled mobile platform for the operating room. Based in Silicon Valley, the company leverages computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to power surgical safety protocols by delivering real-time insights, simplifying clinical workflow, and closing communication gaps. The company’s flagship Triton platform is FDA cleared and CE Marked and powers maternal hemorrhage protocols in hospitals performing over 250,000 annual deliveries. Triton received the 2018 Apple Design Award, which recognizes the best in design, innovation and technology on Apple platforms. For more information, visit http://www.gauss.com.

At the Nourished Festival, attendees will have one-on-one moments with over 120 brands exhibiting the best products for food sensitivities, food allergies and specialty diets. The festival also provides the opportunity to sample and purchase products, meet founders, receive coupons and attend free educational presentations hosted by industry-respected speakers.

While all products at the Festival are gluten free, many exhibitors will also showcase products free from the top eight allergens – and beyond. The Nourished Festivals are managed by The Nourished Group, with a team fluent in gluten-free living, celiac disease, and food allergies – and the rising need to find safe and delicious food and lifestyle products for any specialty diet. Presented by allergen-friendly sponsor Enjoy Life Foods, this event is family friendly and ideal for anyone following a specialty diet lifestyle.

“Our festivals nourish the needs of the entire food community – whether its those with celiac disease, autism, autoimmune or inflammatory conditions or those committed to living a healthy lifestyle,” says Nourished Festival founder, Jen Cafferty. “With comfort foods like pizza and baked goods to healthy lifestyle options like protein bars and probiotic drinks, this festival truly offers something for everyone. An event of this scale being accessible to the general public is a rare and exciting way to explore new options and sample products before buying them in store.”
