Renowned Artist Dr. Guy Harvey Donates Time and Talent to Help Preserve Florida’s Beloved “Home of the Manatees”

The organization leveraged this significant contribution by auctioning the sculpture. The generous proceeds from this sale will be directly applied to initiatives focused on preserving Crystal River’s unique environment and wildlife.

Over the past decade, Save Crystal River has revitalized nearly 100 acres of the river. Dr. Harvey’s contribution bolsters these efforts, enhancing both awareness and the capacity for ongoing and future conservation projects.

“I applaud the conservation and revitalizations efforts of Save Crystal River,” Dr. Harvey said. “It is critical that we all do our part to save and conserve our precious waterways, oceans and their inhabitants. Working together we can continue to ensure that future generations can enjoy and benefit from a properly balanced ocean ecosystem.”

Lisa Moore, board president for Save Crystal River, commented, “We are incredibly honored to receive this stunning and unique donation from Dr. Harvey. His artwork not only embodies the beauty of the natural world but also draws attention to the pressing need for conservation. With his support, we hope to inspire others to join us in our mission to protect and preserve Crystal River for generations to come.”

International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF) Announce Request for Proposals

Work supported through this mechanism will address important mechanistic questions and developmental therapeutics across the care continuum and have the immediate potential to increase survivorship. Given the specific interest in the development of novel therapies that could benefit this group of patients in the relatively near-term, a clinical trial must either be initially incorporated into the project or be an immediate result of the outcome of the research. It is expected that a program of correlative, translational research will be proposed that will enhance the understanding of these oncogenic-driven lung cancers.

“We are thrilled to begin this process as a partner with LCRF,” says Dr. Karen Kelly, Chief Executive Officer of IASLC. “Soliciting research proposals that seek to cure oncogenic-driven lung cancer is a step in the right direction to improve survivorship.”

“Getting the best minds to team up to address the complexities that lead to resistance in oncogenic-driven lung cancer will be exciting,” says Dr. Antoinette Wozniak, LCRF’s Chief Scientific Officer. “We hope that by providing this award, there will be breakthroughs that will impact patients in the near future.”

Submissions to the Request for Proposals will be reviewed through a two-step process: Letters of Intent will be accepted until midnight on March 4, 2024; if selected, projects will then be chosen to submit full proposals. All applications will be subject to a rigorous review by IASLC’s Scientific Affairs Committee and LCRF’s Scientific Advisory Board. More details about the Request for Proposal, along with eligibility, requirements, and deadlines can be found at LCRF.org/FundingOpportunities.

About LCRF:

6.6% Revenue Growth 2023-2028, reports Kalorama Information

1. Prophylactic Vaccination against HPV:

  • HPV vaccines are designed to protect against the most common high-risk HPV types that cause cervical cancer.
  • Vaccination is a preventive measure and is often administered before potential exposure to the virus, ideally before the onset of sexual activity.
  • HPV vaccination has demonstrated significant success in reducing the incidence of cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.

2. Screening and Treatment of Pre-cancer Lesions:

  • Regular screening tests, such as Pap tests and HPV tests, are instrumental in detecting pre-cancerous changes in cervical cells.
  • Early detection allows for timely intervention and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions, preventing their progression to cervical cancer.
  • Screening, when followed by appropriate treatment, is a highly effective strategy in reducing cervical cancer risk.

Both prophylactic vaccination against HPV and routine screening with subsequent treatment of pre-cancerous lesions contribute significantly to cervical cancer prevention efforts. These measures are not only effective in reducing the incidence of cervical cancer but are also considered cost-effective public health interventions. Regular vaccination, coupled with screening programs, plays a crucial role in achieving the goal of preventing the majority of cervical cancer cases. Recent news regarding HPV screening involved global healthcare leader Abbott, who was granted approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its molecular human papillomavirus (HPV) screening solution in November 2023.

The majority of HPV testing is performed in reference labs and clinical molecular labs using high-throughput systems as part of a liquid cytology workflow. Generally very little HPV testing is performed near-patient with only some atypical OB/GYN clinics and other outpatient care providers performing the tests in-house.

Over the last 25 years, molecular tests have been used in just about every segment of laboratory medicine. Covering diseases for which treatment decisions require accurate results, infectious disease testing makes up the bulk of molecular test sales. The COVID-19 crisis brought increased media attention and general awareness to the molecular testing technologies being utilized in infectious disease. Today, molecular diagnostics has evolved into an essential instrument in clinical medicine, influencing various facets of healthcare, according to Kalorama Information.

It is notable that the first category where molecular diagnostics earned their place was infectious disease. In this category, specific results were needed for treatment decisions. The pioneers in the molecular diagnostics field include Roche Diagnostics, Gen-Probe, and Becton Dickinson. The main focus of the initial molecular diagnostics products was infectious diseases including HIV, Chlamydia Trachomatis/Neisseria Gonorrhoeae (CT/NG), and tuberculosis (TB). These diseases are still critical components of the market. Recently growth in molecular diagnostics methods has also been coming from cancer, TB, ISH/ FISH, and other areas.

Haven Dental Announces Grand Opening of New Office in Jersey City

“If you’re experiencing pain or discomfort due to a dental issue, putting off treatment for any reason will lead to much more serious issues than if they’d be addressed in a timely manner,” said Dr. Charles Wei, a board-certified Prosthodontist and Founder of Haven Dental. “Even scheduling routine annual checkups that include cleaning and other basic dental services can help patients avoid more serious issues in the future.”

“At Haven, our approach is to have collaborative and open conversations about treatment process and pricing with patients. It is about creating the best value for the patient. We hope to offer a new dental experience and help patients overcome the anxiety of going to see the dentist,” said Dr. Wei. “This is also why we invested a lot of time designing a calming and comfortable environment in our office to help reduce patient anxiety.”

“We are excited to be part of rapid growth in the Jersey City community,” said Dr. Hassan Khan, an orthodontist partner of Haven Dental. “We see tremendous needs for a redefined dental experience for business owners and gig economy workers, one that is not constrained by dental insurance. Haven Dental is in-network with all major insurance accepted. Affordable cash rates and other payment plans are also available. Haven will also offer a dental membership program for those without insurance.

NexCore Group and Experience Senior Living Named Finalists for National Awards

Phill Barklow, President of NexCore Group’s Experience Senior Living (ESL), continues, saying, “Having Sancerre at Atlee Station and The Gallery at Broomfield recognized nationally is a testament to our team members, residents, and their families. It validates our mission of creating communities with purpose, that each of these shareholders strive for daily.”

NexCore projects have been honored as Finalists 30 times and Winners eight times, including six development projects; a 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Tim Oliver; and the 2019 Healthcare Real Estate Executive of the Year, Greg Venn, NexCore’s CEO and Founding Partner.

The 2023 NexCore Group HREI Insights Awards Finalists are:

Arizona Oncology Cancer Center, Prescott, AZ

As a finalist in the “Best New Development, MOBs and Other Outpatient Facilities, Less than 25,000 sf” category, The Arizona Oncology-Prescott Cancer Center stands as a beacon of comprehensive cancer care, contributing significantly to the well-being of the community.

The 23,000 sf facility includes a 36-chair infusion area, outdoor garden, 17 medical, gynecologic, and radiation oncology exam rooms, and a PET-CT imaging room. The design also allows the ability to add up to two medical linear accelerators (LINAC) in the future to target and destroy cancerous cells in a precise area of a patient’s body with minimal exposure to the surrounding healthy tissue.

“Arizona Oncology had a vision, a vision that would give this community a sense of security with their oncology needs”, remarked Melinda Paipa, Practice Director at Arizona Oncology. “NexCore made this come to life by taking our vision and showing us that we could make it happen in a reasonable amount of time. We had our expectations and they exceeded them.”

Sancerre Atlee Station – Mechanicsville, VA

A finalist in the “Post-Acute & Senior Living Facilities Best New Ground-Up Development” category, the two-story, 92,332 sf senior living community is specifically designed to offer Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care services to its residents. Sancerre Atlee Station is the company’s first developed and operated community in the state of Virginia.

NexCore’s senior living entity, Experience Senior Living (ESL), identified an underserved senior living market amidst aging communities in suburban Richmond, Virginia. With a total of 103 apartment suites available, Sancerre Atlee Station provides a range of living options to meet each resident’s unique lifestyle. The senior living community offers numerous amenities and services that make it an ideal living destination for seniors.

On the nomination Mr. Barklow commented, “Sancerre at Atlee Station is a modern interpretation of classic Virginia architecture. There is such a deep culture in our surrounding market that we wanted to pay homage to the lifestyle that our residents and families were used to. We are excited to be a part of the deep-rooted history that the greater Richmond area has, as well as being an active participant in helping to shape the future.”

The Gallery at Broomfield, Broomfield, CO

The Gallery at Broomfield has also been named a Finalist in the “Post-Acute & Senior Living Facilities Best New Ground-Up Development” Category. The three-story, 100,986 square foot community includes 115 assisted living and memory care apartments.

Experience Senior Living (ESL), NexCore’s senior living entity, researched and realized an opportunity in the underserved Broomfield, Colorado market. Despite limited land zoned for senior living due to the city’s commercial focus, ESL recognized the potential in this high-growth area with no existing competition. ESL strategically identified a narrow 5-acre site, maximizing its potential with a 3-story building oriented westward to embrace Rocky Mountain views. The modern mountain design, curated by a skilled architect and design team, includes front and back courtyards adorned with local art. The assisted living and memory care community features units with full kitchens, offering a complete continuum of care. With full licensing, residents have the flexibility to age in place, ensuring a dynamic and accommodating living environment.

Mr. Barklow added, “The Gallery at Broomfield is part of our art and music themed independent and assisted living brand. The Broomfield market is full of outdoor, active people that want to continue living a lifestyle with culture and exceptional experiences. We are excited to curate those experiences at The Gallery at Broomfield.”

NexCore Group LLC is a national healthcare real estate investment and development company that focuses on acquiring, developing, owning, and managing purpose-built facilities for healthcare, science and technology, and senior living.
