This award celebrates APSHO’s extraordinary work in uplifting advanced practice leaders in oncology

The Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO) was awarded the 2020 Power of A (Association) Silver Award from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for its work organizing a national oncology leadership summit for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pharmacists. The Power of A Award celebrates the extraordinary programs and initiatives undertaken by associations worldwide to enrich lives, advance the professions they represent, kickstart innovation, and improve world conditions.

The Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology is a 1,400-member strong organization for advanced practitioners—nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other oncology health-care professionals. The mission of APSHO is to promote oncology patient care that is high quality, cost effective, and delivered through collaborative practice models by optimizing the role of the advanced practitioner as an integral member of the care team.

“This award celebrates APSHO’s extraordinary work in uplifting advanced practice leaders in oncology,” said Executive Director of APSHO, Wendy H. Vogel, MSN, FNP, AOCNP®. “It also demonstrates the power of multidisciplinary, collaborative practice and the passion for oncology that advanced practitioners have.”

APSHO took Silver in the 2020 award category of The Power of Industry/Professional Advancement for the National Oncology Advanced Practitioner Leadership Summit, which took place at JADPRO Live 2019 and aimed to address critical oncology issues by bringing oncology advanced practice leaders together to collaborate on leadership challenges. This category recognizes associations that have addressed professional advancement by developing innovative educational and professional development opportunities.

“Congratulations to APSHO on being named among the very best organizations that go above and beyond to improve society and our quality of life in America,” said ASAE President and CEO Susan Robertson, CAE. “This has been a very trying year for associations, but even amid a months-long pandemic, associations are proving that positive change can happen.”
