OHM Fitness to Open 70 New Locations Across Texas Triangle

News Image

OHM Fitness is revolutionizing the fitness industry for the digital age by utilizing a tech-forward proprietary suit to essentially hack working out. This gives people a safe, convenient, and effective strategy for upholding their health regardless of their fitness ability or experience.

OHM Fitness will open 70 EMS fitness studios in the Texas Triangle through its newest franchise partner over the next few years. OHM Fitness offers a high-tech, high-energy EMS fitness experience that packs the benefits of an intense two-hour workout into a low-impact, 25-minute session.

Shivam Khanna recently secured the area representative rights to Texas and will bring 70 locations to the state, including 25 in Dallas Fort Worth, 20 in Austin and San Antonio, and 25 in Houston. Khanna plans to open up to 25 locations himself, and is already searching for retail spaces in Dallas Fort Worth with Jim Dunn of Retail Union Partners to identify a location in hopes to open by the end of 2023. The other 45 locations will be awarded to qualified multi-unit franchisees.

The first studio opened in the company’s headquarters of Scottsdale in August of 2022 and since then, the company, to date, has sold the rights to twelve area regions, totaling more than 275 future studios. Territories in development include Arizona, San Diego, South Florida, New Jersey, Washington D.C, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina and now, Texas.

“The Texas Triangle is one of the fastest-growing areas in the United States and is a perfect place to introduce the OHM Fitness brand,” said Khanna. “OHM Fitness is revolutionizing the fitness industry for the digital age by utilizing a tech-forward proprietary suit to essentially hack working out. This gives people a safe, convenient, and effective strategy for upholding their health regardless of their fitness ability or experience.”

Khanna is a seasoned 20-year franchisee with experience developing franchises across the state of Texas. He got his start with Subway restaurants and was also involved in Massage Envy from 2008 to a successful exit in 2019. He is still currently involved with the European Wax Center. As a Dallas local, Khanna plans to first expand the brand in his home city but hopes to quickly open in the Houston and Austin/San Antonio areas, too.

“At OHM Fitness, we have created the opportunity to beat your brain at its own game,” said co-founder Doug Payne. “Your brain sends electrical signals to your muscles to make them move. But muscles can only contract about once per second or repetition. OHM Fitness lets you use science and technology to actively game the system. We are revolutionizing the fitness industry with this wireless technology.”

OHM Fitness is a special first-to-market franchise opportunity for entrepreneurs and experienced franchise industry professionals who are eager to capture their share in the $96 billion dollar fitness industry. The initial franchise fee is $39,000 and the total estimated initial investment ranges from $337,500 to $612,700. Deaf Educator Rachel Zemach’s Memoir Offers Unexpected and Vital Insights for Allies and Educators Alike

Rachel Zemach, a Deaf educator, writer and passionate activist, has published a memoir titled, “THE BUTTERFLY CAGE.” Drawing on her personal experiences and her extensive work with Deaf and hard of hearing children and adults, Rachel Zemach sheds necessary and sometimes startling light on the experiences of Deaf and hard of hearing individuals and offers practical advice for educators and families. Her stories about individual students and how the school system disempowers them are funny, powerful and memorable.

“Being a Deaf teacher, I have seen how the education system unnecessarily and quite unintentionally limits students’ growth and potential. My book is a heartfelt effort to bring attention to this situation, which is largely unknown to the hearing world, yet common knowledge among the Deaf. Nationwide, parents are not learning, nor encouraged, to sign with their Deaf children, and this has created an epidemic of language deprivation in Deaf children. Public schools overlook the power and benefits of Deaf students embracing a Deaf identity, which wreaks havoc on many Deaf student’s potential and psychological well-being. Through poignant, humorously told, true stories, describing both public schools and the dramatically different setting of a renowned Deaf school, my book aims to show you how and why.

THE BUTTERFLY CAGE provides practical solutions for parents and educators, but also aims to educate outsiders about our issues, since ignorance and mistaken assumptions is the status quo that has allowed these conditions to thrive. Through my writing, I hope to ignite passion and clarity in hearing readers and inspire them to be our allies by letting them glimpse behind the usually closed doors of Deaf classrooms, and welcoming them into our world. It’s time to break down the walls of this butterfly cage and create an inclusive world where everyone can soar,” explains Rachel Zemach.

48.3 million people in the US have significant hearing loss/deafness and 85% of our country’s Deaf and hard of hearing children attend “mainstream,” public schools where they will not receive the same quality of education as their hearing classmates.

Deaf children are often subjected to teachers, administration and other staff who are not only untrained in Deaf education but even hold a belief system that is in direct opposition to the beliefs of Deaf professionals in education.

ABOUT “THE BUTTERFLY CAGE”

Rachel’s debut book is tender, funny, surprising, and disruptive. You’ll be a fly on the wall in a Deaf classroom in a public school, watching a Deaf teacher struggle with staff, administration, and aides who sabotage the teachers at every turn. You’ll also see the children confronted with a principal who removes their textbooks, a vindictive, power-hungry speech therapist, and a system that leaves them defenseless against it.

You’ll also meet a language-obsessed boy who will capture your heart and run away with it and the political, fiercely intelligent members of the Deaf community who rally to change legislation after his life takes a shocking turn. Learn from these true stories of individual students and their quirky, fallible teacher, what the deepest feelings and dilemmas of Deaf and hard of hearing people are, and why 85% of our students around the country are being unnecessarily set up for failure.

ADVANCE PRAISE FOR “THE BUTTERFLY CAGE”

“The Butterfly Cage is poignant and funny. You will learn a lot but hopefully UN-learn even more!”

– Jason Rezaian, author of Prisoner: 544 Days in an Iranian Prison

“The book starts out like a nice, leisurely drive through the countryside and then holy smokes—strap yourself in!—you realize you’re in a fighter jet pulling 7 G’s.”

– Mark Drolsbaugh, author of On the Fence

“Finally an eyewitness brings us a close-up lens on the experiences of deaf schoolchildren.”

– Gina Oliva, author of Turning the Tide

“The Butterfly Cage blows the lid off the California public school system’s treatment of deaf students. You will be both enlightened and outraged!”

–John J. Geoghegan, author of Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow

“Rachel’s account from the front line is vital.”

– Dr Paddy Ladd, author of The Unrecognized Curriculum

ABOUT RACHEL ZEMACH

Rachel Zemach is a Deaf teacher, writer, and passionate activist on behalf of Deaf and hard of hearing children and adults. She taught Deaf students for over a decade— first in a public school and then in the dramatically different setting of a renowned school for the Deaf. What she experienced personally, and learned about the educational system and its impact on her students, stunned her and informed her work.

In her upcoming memoir, “THE BUTTERFLY CAGE,” she shares first-hand accounts and explores the differences in thinking between the two major, and often conflicting, viewpoints on how to educate Deaf children. She shares close-up, poignant stories of charming, individual students, classroom scenes that may surprise you, and her personal encounters and inner change as she navigates her own extreme Deafness, while surrounded by hearing people, both at home and at work. She leads readers through intense educational meetings, bringing out both humor and the dismay they invoke.

She explains in simple, clear language what has led public “mainstream” schools—which 85% of our Deaf students attend—to this place of un-intentionally setting many students up for failure, and unnecessary social/psychological challenges and dives into how to powerfully reverse those problems, for Deaf people of any age and in any school setting.

Zemach’s book is available now on Amazon in paperback and kindle format!

Global Genes announces partnership with CureJM Foundation to expand support in rare disease community for mental health related challenges

“Through this initiative we will leverage and expand on the relevant work already developed by Cure JM, to benefit the broader community of patients and their families living with a rare disease.” – Charlene Son Rigby, CEO of Global Genes

The rare disease patient advocacy organization Global Genes has partnered with Cure JM Foundation to work together on a two-year mental health initiative.

Global Genes is committed to improving the health and mental well-being of the rare disease community that it serves. This partnership with Cure JM will provide educational tools and support for patients and developing communities, two of the three foundational pillars that support Global Genes’ mission. Through this collaboration, the tools and resources CureJM has already developed will be made more widely available via the Global Genes partnership.

“Mental health is an often-neglected aspect of living with a rare disease,” said Charlene Son Rigby, CEO of Global Genes. “Through this initiative we will leverage and expand on the relevant work already developed by Cure JM, to benefit the broader community of patients and their families living with a rare disease.”

The two organizations will support the distribution and availability of mental health-related resources and tools created by Cure JM through their websites, development of webinars, participation at existing events, and interactions through Global Genes’ online community, RARE Portal. In addition, RARE Concierge, the Patient Services team at Global Genes, will leverage the expertly developed and curated resources that Cure JM has cultivated for those seeking mental health support. This partnership will represent best practices around mental health in the rare disease community, and both organizations hope it will serve as a model for other patient advocacy groups for future collaborations.

Research has shown the vast majority of people with a rare disease experience depression, stress, and anxiety related to their conditions. Even so, healthcare professionals often neglect this aspect of living with a rare disease.

“We know rare disease patients face mental health issues at a greater rate than others, but often they suffer in silence,” said Jim Minow, executive director of the Cure JM Foundation. “This partnership will not only raise awareness about this problem but provide patients with tools and resources for them to get the help they need.”

Anyone seeking mental health assistance can reach out to RARE Concierge, the Global Genes patient services team, who can provide the tools and resources needed, including those offered by Cure JM Foundation.

About Global Genes

Global Genes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating the burdens and challenges of rare diseases for patients and families globally. Checklist for Parents – “When to add a Life Coach for Kids to Your Parenting Team” released for May Mental Health Month by Adventures in Wisdom

“I can’t think of a pain worse for parents than to see your child struggling and to feel like you can’t get them the help they need.” The Parent Checklist is designed to help parents determine – in under 60 seconds – whether a Life Coach for Kids could help their child.

In time for May Mental Health Month and International Coaching Week May 8-14, Adventures in Wisdom announces a new checklist for parents wanting to support their children in developing strong mental health so that they are confident and prepared to thrive in life. “When to Add a Life Coach for Kids to Your Parenting Team” is a quick checklist that helps parents determine whether a life coach for kids is a good choice for their family. The parent checklist is available here for download now.

“When parents see a change in their child, they often think that counseling is the only answer. Most parents aren’t aware that life coaching for kids is available and can often be the best solution if their child isn’t in crisis,” says Renaye Thornborrow, founder of Adventures in Wisdom, a company that has certified hundreds of child life coaches in over 30 countries since 2013.

The Parent Checklist is designed to help parents determine – in under 60 seconds – whether a Life Coach for Kids could help their child.

U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy discussed the struggle that parents across the country are having with getting help for their children in his panel discussion within “The Kids are not Alright – the Decline of Mental Health Among Youth” presented at the American Psychological Association 2022 conference. He said, “I think one of the hardest things as parents is to see your child struggling and to not know what to do about it…They can’t get appointments to see mental health providers, even when they do get an appointment, it’s 6, 7, 8 months away… I can’t think of a pain worse for a parent than to see your child struggling and to feel like you can’t get them the help they need.”

“Parents need to know that there are resources to support their children across the mental health continuum,” shared Thornborrow. “Life coaching for kids helps with prevention by helping children develop mindset skills for resilience, self-esteem, confidence, self-leadership, achievement, happiness and more so that they can manage the ups and downs of growing up, reach their fullest potential, and thrive in life. These mindset skills are a critical part of social emotional learning and mental wellness for our children.”

Son/Editor Rob Schwartz explains New Book ‘The Wisdom of Morrie’ emphasizes Human Connections during Stanford’s Longevity Book Club Talk

Son/Editor Rob Schwartz explains New Book ‘The Wisdom of Morrie’ by Morrie Schwartz (beloved subject of “Tuesdays with Morrie”) emphasizes Human Connections during Stanford’s Longevity Book Club Talk

Dad suggests that you want to maintain, strengthen and create human connections…Make your connections with your friends and family stronger, share more things with them, share more love with them, and also create new relationships in his new book. – Son/Editor Rob Schwartz, “The Wisdom of Morrie”

In sync with Mental Health Awareness Month (May), Sociology Professor and beloved subject of “Tuesdays with Morrie”, Author Morrie Schwartz emphasizes the importance of prioritizing human connections over daily tasks in his new book: “The Wisdom of Morrie – Living and Aging Creatively and Joyous” (April 2023, Blackstone Publishing). Morrie’s Son/Editor Rob Schwartz recently spoke at The Longevity Book Club (May 2, 2023) that is part of the Stanford Center on Longevity about his late father’s book and sage advice tips for how to live “vibrantly” at any age.

As a posthumously published book, Morrie Schwartz’s words are even more timely and relevant today with the New U.S. Surgeon General Advisory: Our Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation (May 2023). Morrie urges everyone to make new friends, learn new things, and join organizations to stay connected, especially as one ages.

Rob Schwartz found his late father’s book in his desk after Morrie passed in November 1995 from ALS. Many observe that “The Wisdom of Morrie” is like a “Prequel” to “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom because Morrie wrote it between 1988-1992 (around age 70-75) during retirement and prior to being diagnosed with ALS (aka Lou Gehig’s disease).

When asked to describe Morrie’s new book, Rob explained, “Dad wrote about the myth of ageism that once you get old, you can’t do anything….He says you need to break out of the age-casting (preconceived notions of what an aging person is supposed to be) and do whatever you want to do…Morrie never thought of himself as an elderly person, but felt society viewed him that way.”

When asked what Morrie recommends to “live vibrantly” while aging, Rob continued, “He suggests that you want to maintain, strengthen and create human connections…He’s saying don’t wait until the end of your life and you’re on your death bed. Make your connections with your friends and family stronger, share more things with them, share more love with them, and also create new relationships.”

In addition, “The Wisdom of Morrie” highlights the author’s Top 5 insights for living a long and happy life, which include embracing 1. Laughter, 2. Meditation, 3. Spiritual Connections, 4. Finding New Interests and 5. Strengthening Human Relationships.

When asked about his dad being a Mental Health Advocate, Rob explained, “My father became a therapist back in the 1970s,…and it (therapy) was very expensive. So he started, with a group of other psychologists, the Mental Health Collective in Cambridge, Massachusetts, called Greenhouse, which offered therapy on a sliding scale. Meaning, you could pay what you could.”

In addition to publishing his late father’s new book, Music/Film Producer Rob Schwartz is producing a music festival in Los Angeles in 2024 called ONETOPIA that will be a live one-day event broadcast and streamed around the world. 100% of all net proceeds from ONETOPIA will go to global mental health and wellness initiatives through the ONE HUMANITY Foundation.

And according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), “It is estimated that more than one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (57.8 million in 2021). As a result, mental health awareness, compassion and solutions to loneliness in “The Wisdom of Morrie” even more important.

WHERE TO BUY THE BOOK
