Emilia Clarke’s SameYou Charity For Brain Injury Recovery Launches NFT Series On the Seva.Love NFT Platform for Good

SameYou, the charity founded by Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, today announced an NFT for good initiative to develop better recovery treatments for more than 80 million brain injury and stroke survivors around the world.

“I’ve experienced two brain aneurysms and the incredible health care workers are one of the biggest reasons I was able to come out even stronger,” said Clarke. “Nearly one-in-three people will suffer from brain injury in their lifetime, and SameYou’s purpose is to increase access to rehabilitation, ensuring survivors have the best chance of recovery.”

The drop will include both digital and physical items, including the one-of-a-kind Atelier Versace dress Emilia debuted on the red carpet at the 68th Emmy Awards in 2016. The NFT artwork will feature 2D, 3D, Pure Reality and hologram imagery created by award-winning photographer Steven Sebring and a series by DreamView, which will pair experiential mindscape of brain-injury healing with spoken word by Emilia Clarke. The collection also includes a limited edition digital recreation of the dress that can be displayed and worn by one’s avatar in the metaverse of their choice.

“The gown is the heaviest I’ve ever worn and is made of metal mesh, which became Gianni Versace’s famous trademark in the early 1980s,” continued Clarke. “And to me, the metal build of the dress symbolizes the strength, power and resilience of brain trauma survivors. I almost feel like there is a little bit of Khalessi ready to go into battle in this chainmail gown.”

The charity project will launch on the social good NFT metaverse platform SEVA.LOVE, founded by Deepak Chopra and Poonacha Machaiah. SEVA.LOVE empowers artists to create unique NFT collections and engage their communities for social transformation. The platform enables artists to apply their art and creativity into meaningful global action, empowering communities to be catalysts for positive social and planetary transformation.

“The digital ecosystem is playing an increasingly bigger role in every part of our lives, and that includes social good initiatives,” said Poonacha Machaiah, co-founder and CEO, SEVA.LOVE. “Whether it be raising awareness for mental health, suicide prevention, poverty and hunger, violence against women or climate action, SEVA.LOVE is here to power NFT initiatives. And we’re honored to help support SameYou’s NFT project that will help millions of people globally.”

Entertainment and brand advisory holding company Subnation Media will guide the development of SameYou’s NFT initiative. Subnation helps companies like Atari Hotels and NASCAR develop Web3 strategies, which includes metaverse experiences, NFT’s, avatars, digital goods, and more.

Moving Beyond 10 Steps to Clinical Study Startup, Upcoming Webinar Hosted by Xtalks

Today, study startup functions and job roles are more commonplace at sponsor and CRO organizations, but despite this, clinical operations teams are drowning in data but starving for information at a time of intense pressure to speed up clinical trials and restrain costs.

Until recently, the study startup portion of clinical trials has not benefited from innovation, essentially remaining manual or heavily rooted in Excel spreadsheets, causing this complex process to seriously underperform. The 10 steps to clinical study startup eBook, based on the directives in ICH E6(R1), helped define the site-specific activities at the outset of a clinical trial and to this day remains a very popular download.

Today, study startup functions and job roles are more commonplace at sponsor and CRO organizations, but despite this, clinical operations teams are drowning in data but starving for information at a time of intense pressure to speed up clinical trials and restrain costs.

The average cost of drug R&D is now estimated to be $2.9B by Tufts CSDD — this is unsustainable. Globalization (multi-country studies), the changing regulatory landscape (ICH E6(R2)/(R3), EU 536/2014, etc.), matrix organizational changes and non-traditional trial designs (e.g., decentralized clinical trials) have forced the industry to rethink their approach to study startup. These traditional steps need to be expanded upon, collapsed and fit for purpose. But, how?

Register for this live webinar on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 10am EST (3pm GMT/UK) to learn about a modern approach to study startup that addresses today’s drug development challenges.

The webinar will feature the following expert speakers:

  • Gareth Milborrow, SVP of Feasibility, Site ID & Start-Up, ICON; ACRO member company;
  • Lorena Gomez, Senior Director, Global Study Start Up, PRO Management, and Digital Implementation, AbbVie;
  • Andrea Ochoa, VP of Global Study Start Up, Premier Research; CRO Forum member company;
  • Kirill S. Soldatov, Director of Process Improvement, PSI CRO;
  • Tina Karunaratne, Head of Global Clinical Operations, Orum Therapeutics;
  • Jennifer Peterson, Executive Director, SSU & Regulatory, Syneos Health; ACRO member company; and
  • Elvin Thalund, Director, Industry Strategy, Oracle Health Sciences, ACRO member company

First laundry detergent earns coveted asthma & allergy friendly® certification

Renegade’s SWEAT-X Free and Clear Laundry Detergent

Renegade’s SWEAT-X Free and Clear Laundry Detergent

“I am thrilled that through Renegade, the allergy aware consumer can now select a detergent that has passed our rigorous ASL standards, and is CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly®,” said Dr. John McKeon

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) has announced that Renegade’s SWEAT-X Free and Clear is the first laundry detergent to earn the asthma & allergy friendly® certification.

When used regularly to wash bedding and clothing, CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly® laundry detergent can help people reduce asthma and allergy triggers, which contributes to a healthier home environment.

The asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program, an independent program established in the United States by AAFA and ASL, helps consumers identify products for the home that are more suitable for people with asthma and allergies. Products undergo physical and chemical testing to ensure they reduce allergen exposure and limit pollutants in the air. The certification mark is awarded only to those products that meet the criteria.

The Laundry Detergent Certification Standard tests fabric samples in an environmentally controlled chamber to simulate real world conditions, using cat allergens and dust mite allergens which are added to fabric for an incubation period. The samples are then washed in the laundry detergent, and upon completion of the wash, the fabric must show a reduction in allergen levels of 95% or greater.

Renegade’s SWEAT-X Free and Clear Laundry Detergent has demonstrated the following:

  • Reduces over 95% of allergens, including allergens related to pet dander and dust mites, from fabrics washed with the detergent
  • Extremely low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions when the detergent is used
  • Each ingredient has been reviewed to ensure that there are no added fragrances and that any chemicals with allergenic or sensitizing properties are either absent or at suitably low levels

“We congratulate SWEAT-X Free and Clear detergent on earning the rigorous asthma & allergy friendly® Certification,” shared Kenneth Mendez, CEO and president of AAFA. “The bar for certification is high, but the power of our scientific testing is in service to our asthma and allergy community. Products that are CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly® provide consumers with a trusted solution.”

Consumers want to be confident that a laundry detergent can remove allergens like dust mite and pet allergens,” Dr. John McKeon, CEO of ASL, explains. “Laundry detergents can contain irritant or allergenic ingredients that can impact sensitive airways. I am thrilled the allergy aware consumer can now select a detergent that addresses these issues, has passed our rigorous scientific standards, and is CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly®.”

Renegade’s SWEAT-X Free and Clear Laundry Detergent has met these standards and is CERTIFIED to reduce allergens and irritants and contribute to a healthier indoor environment.

“Renegade Brands is proud to join the family of products CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly® with our SWEAT-X Free and Clear Laundry Detergent,” said Bill Sherman, CEO of Renegade Brands, Inc. “Our mission has always been to develop and produce the highest quality products and SWEAT-X Free and Clear Detergent is no exception. We are honored to be recognized not only for our product’s efficacy but also for its positive impact in creating a healthier home.”

Renegade’s SWEAT-X Free and Clear Laundry Detergent will be celebrated at the ISSA Trade Show 2021 in Las Vegas Nov. 15-18, 2021, where the focus will be on the importance of cleaning products for healthier indoor living solutions.

New Study to Investigate the Impact of Pets on the Mental Health of Sexual and Gender Minority Youth

HABRI logo

“As the first project to longitudinally examine the impact of pet ownership on the development of LGBTQ+ young adults, this work addresses an important gap in the field of HAI research.”

The Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) announced today the award of a new research grant to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to examine the relationship between sexual and gender minority (SGM) stressors in young adulthood and human-animal interaction (HAI), investigating how pets may serve as a protective factor for this marginalized population during the transition to adulthood. The lead investigators of the grant are Drs. Rosalie Corona and Shelby McDonald, both in the Department of Psychology.

SGM emerging adults (e.g., lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other sexual and gender minority identities or “LGBTQ+” ́) are a diverse group of young people facing stigma, victimization, and discrimination at levels that impact their wellbeing. This research project involves a three-wave panel study of 300 SGM emerging adults. Over a 6-month period, researchers aim to identify unique relations between SGM stressors and HAI, exploring how pets are associated with increases in personal hardiness, and whether comfort derived from them buffers the negative impact of victimization on self-esteem. This study will allow researchers to assess these effects over time and identify causal mechanisms that explain the relationship between pets and improved health outcomes, providing further evidence for the role of pets as a social determinant of health.

“This study is the first to longitudinally test whether relationships with pets help this underserved population cope with stress,” said Dr. Shelby McDonald, Co-Principal Investigator. “I’m thrilled to be working with Co-PI Dr. Rosalie Corona, on this project, who brings expertise in reducing risk, health disparities, and improving health behaviors. We expect to find that measures of the human-animal bond, such as attachment to pets and comfort derived from pets, will be positively associated with self-esteem and personal hardiness, and negatively associated with stress and substance use.”

Dr. Corona shared, “Findings from this project have important public health and policy implications for promoting the health of SGM emerging adults and could lay the foundation for health promotion of younger and older SGM individuals.”

“As the first project to longitudinally examine the impact of pet ownership on the development of LGBTQ+ young adults, this work addresses an important gap in the field of HAI research,” said Steven Feldman, president of HABRI. “HABRI is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and is proud to be funding research to advance this commitment.”

About HABRI

HABRI is a not-for-profit organization that maintains the world’s largest online library of human-animal bond research and information; funds innovative research projects to scientifically document the health benefits of companion animals; and informs the public about human-animal bond research and the beneficial role of companion animals in society. Covered Care Announces Zero Percent APR Pricing

News Image

By giving all patients better financing options we can help growing healthcare practices care for more patients.

Covered Care, a buy now pay later solution for the healthcare industry, announced today the first 0% APR buy now, pay later pricing in the industry that is available to every patient – no matter their credit score. The financing offer is not a promotional price, but rather a true 0% APR offer with no hidden fees.

“Many of the so-called 0% APR offers are either only available to patients with high credit scores or are merely promotional rates that can trigger large retroactive fees if not paid off on time,” said Ken Rees, CEO of Covered Care. “We believe that every patient deserves fair, transparent pricing without any surprises.”

With the new 0% APR pricing, patients using Covered Care financing will be able to choose between a 0%, 6 month offer and a longer-term offer with a low monthly payment. “According to a recent Gallop poll, one-third of American adults don’t receive or delay the medical care they need due to cost,” said Tim Ranney, Chief Risk Officer of Covered Care. “By giving all patients better financing options we can help growing healthcare practices care for more patients.”

Founded in 2020, Covered Care helps healthcare providers care for patients who otherwise would have been declined for traditional credit. Their proprietary financing platform can underwrite and approve patients at every credit level – from prime to non-prime. This flexibility allows healthcare providers to care for more patients without taking on any risk.

About Covered Care

Covered Care is a buy now, pay later financing solution for growing healthcare practices. Our mission is to help healthcare providers care for more patients, which means we provide the highest approval rates in the industry (up to 100%), affordable terms (as low as 0% APR for all credit tiers), and flexible pricings integration options. The Onco’Zine Brief: PRECEDE – A New Approach Designed to Increase Survival Rates for Patients with Pancreatic Cancer

News Image

“The Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection (PRECEDE) Consortium is the largest pancreatic cancer initiative in history. It will set the tone and stage for initiatives to come.”

The Onco’Zine Brief with Peter Hofland, Ph.D. released a new episode of the program via PRX | Public Radio Exchange in the (United States) and UK Health Radio (United Kingdom and Europe). The program is also available via podcast and streaming media.

In the latest episode of The Onco’Zine Brief, Hofland talks with Diane M. Simeone, MD, Principal Investigator of the Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection (PRECEDE) Consortium and Director of the Pancreatic Cancer Center at NYU Langone Health, and Tom Schoenherr, Chief Executive Officer of Ambry Genetics.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), a disease with a high degree of malignancy, is a common cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality. This is primarily due to difficulties in detecting early-stage disease and the aggressive behavior of the disease. And while multiple therapeutic strategies have been developed to treat pancreatic cancer, the outcomes of these approaches have, so far, been disappointing. [1]

According to the American Cancer Society, the disease is one of the deadliest cancers, with a 5-year survival rate of just 10 percent. [2]

“Pancreatic cancer is the cancer everybody hears about but doesn’t want to get. It’s been thought of as being uncommon, but over the years the incidence has been increasing. Unfortunately, the survival rate has remained quite low over the last decade or two,” said Simeone.

Challenges

In contrast to some other cancers, including breast cancer and colorectal cancer (CRC), early diagnoses of pancreatic cancer remains challenging.

“Early detection of colon cancer and breast cancer by the use of colonoscopy and mammography have been game-changers in improving survival in these two types of cancer. We don’t have a version of a colonoscopy for pancreatic cancer. We don’t have mammography like breast cancer does, and the 5-year survival rate for breast cancer is 90%. When you look at significant improvement with cancer survival rates, it’s often early detection that has made the most impact. It really needs to be our targeted focus in pancreatic cancer as well,” explained Simeone.

One of the most significant obstacles in advancing early detection and diagnosis is figuring out who is at elevated risk for pancreatic cancer. Efforts to tackle early detection in pancreatic cancer have been small in scale, disjointed, and inadequately funded. A large scale, collaborative effort will be needed to tackle this. The PRECEDE Consortium was established to develop a more organized and effective approach to tackle early detection at the scale and pace needed to have a meaningful impact on patient survival .

PRECEDE, a highly collaborative international effort comprised of over 39 leading academic medical centers across the globe, is committed to transforming the early detection and prevention of pancreatic cancer, with the aim of increasing the 5-year survival rate from 10 percent to 50 percent within the next 10 years.

“We believe this is the largest pancreatic cancer initiative in history. It will set the tone and stage for initiatives to come. I think this will be a catalyst to ignite a bigger spark for visibility on this issue,” said Tom Schoenherr, Chief Executive Officer for Ambry Genetics.

Building a Team

PRECEDE is made possible thanks to partnerships with REALM IDx and its subsidiaries, Ambry Genetics and Invicro. PRECEDE plans to analyze and standardize data curated through LATTICE™, an integrated diagnostics platform operating in the cloud.

“Some of the most cutting-edge technologies in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and genetics actually happens in the private sector. The key is finding the right partners with the same goals as the Consortium to help amplify our progress. That’s why we are working with our partners to create what we call the LATTICE™ project, a platform that runs operates in the cloud and utilizes a HIPAA-eligible service that helps organizations store, transform, query, and analyze health data. This platform will help researchers and clinicians gain new insights for detecting and preventing pancreatic cancer,” said Simeone

To learn more about the PRECEDE Consortium, visit Precedestudy.org and listen to the latest episode of The Onco’Zine Brief on your preferred listening app or via your network of choice. This episode (PRECEDE: Transforming the Early Detection and Prevention of Pancreatic Cancer) is available across multiple broadcast networks and podcast platforms, including PRX Public Radio Exchange, UK Health Radio, Spotify, Audible, Apple Podcasts, iHeart Radio, Google Podcasts, and many others.
