The product was designed on the premise that light has transformative power, not only to brighten up appearance but also to boost human connection and build rapport, a vital element of many meetings.

Today, Zumy launched its namesake product, a portable light that securely clips to a laptop or monitor to create brilliant lighting for video calls. The light provides personal lighting to brighten and soften your appearance. Simple to use and compact, it is now available on Indiegogo for $45 USD ($69 USD retail).

Zumy replicates the effect of a softbox, a tool used by professional photographers to diffuse harsh lighting and eliminate shadows from portrait shots. The company’s mini softbox design is expertly designed to use light source separation and multiple layers of diffusion to create the kind of soft, diffused light you might find at a professional photographer’s studio. It has four levels of lighting adjustment to provide great lighting in any environment.

“We really feel this is the best video meeting light ever designed,” says Founder Mike Drez. “I lost my business due to the pandemic, and I wanted to find a way to help others adapt to the new post-pandemic reality. I felt video meetings were lacking communication and human connection. I realized good lighting could really help connect others during these times.”

Even beyond the pandemic, it’s clear remote work isn’t going away. As we rely more and more on video to make connections, great lighting has gone from a “nice to have” to something that has a major impact on the first impression you make. Zumy was designed specifically for day to day use and is a point-and-shoot, user-friendly solution: just clip on and go.

Zumy is powered by USB, making it as portable as a laptop, so you’re not tethered to your personal lighting. It’s very compact and collapses to the size of a small calculator (3” x 5”) making it easy to throw into a laptop bag and take on the go.

The product was designed on the premise that light has transformative power, not only to brighten up appearance but also to boost human connection and build rapport, a vital element of many meetings.

“We found that other lighting solutions, like ring lights, are either not portable, are expensive or are designed for professional photographers and therefore complicated to use,” said Zumy Product Designer Tark Abed. “Zumy is designed for everyone, an easy way to boost lighting for business calls, interviews, teaching, and telehealth, where making a connection is key.”

Zumy is now available on Indiegogo. The company plans on delivering to backers in January and launching in retail shortly after. For more information or to interview Zumy personnel, please contact public relations agent Rosemary Newton.
