Western University of Health Sciences has selected Dee Schilling, PhD, PT, FNAP, to serve as dean of the College of Health Sciences (CHS) amid an exciting and critical time of expansion and innovation.

Dr. Schilling joined WesternU in 2007 as chair of the Department of Physical Therapy Education. She previously served as CHS associate dean, and for the past year has served as CHS interim dean. She replaces longtime CHS Dean Stephanie Bowlin, EdD, PA, who was promoted to Founding Chief of Mission Integration at WesternU.

Wilson, MD, PhD. “The WesternU College of Health Sciences is poised for growth with expansion in Oregon. Dr. Schilling is the right leader at the right time to expand our mission in service to others.”

The College of Health Sciences has three academic programs: Master of Science in Health Sciences, Master of Science in Physician Assistant (PA) Studies and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). Students are provided with classroom and clinical experiences designed to prepare them to function as competent health care practitioners.

This is more critical now than ever before as we move through this pandemic.”

CHS provides an academic environment built on Schilling’s platform of CARES, which stands for Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Success.

“We are collaborative. We are accountable for what we do. We will always be respectful. We will strive for excellence at all times and our ultimate outcome is student success,” Schilling said.

CHS will welcome its inaugural class of Doctor of Physical Therapy students to the WesternU Oregon campus in Lebanon, Oregon in Fall 2021. CHS is also adding occupational therapy there. The College is hiring DPT faculty in Lebanon and is receiving high levels of interest from prospective students.

The Master of Science in Health Sciences program converted to a fully online program this Fall.

Dr. Schilling’s permanent dean’s appointment was announced to the University on Aug. 4, 2020.
