The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has awarded Westat the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey-Household Component (MEPS-HC). MEPS is the most complete source of data on the use and costs of health care for the non-institutionalized population of the U.S. Westat has continuously supported this work since 1996.
The HC fields questionnaires on a rotating basis to individual household members, collecting nationally representative data on demographic characteristics, health conditions, use of medical care services, expenses, access to care, and more. Westat will make the MEPS-HC multimode capable, and will improve event reporting, as well as computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) design and operations. This 5-year contract is valued at $300 million.
“Westat is honored to continue to execute the core work of MEPS-HC as well as implement continuous improvements, collaborating closely with AHRQ. This research is key to understanding the evolving health care landscape,” notes Co-Project Director for MEPS-HC Brad Edwards, a Westat Vice President and Deputy Director for Large Surveys.
