In “Comforting Your Uncomfortable Stomach: A Companion for Silent Sufferers of Nausea and Vomiting” (published by Archway Publishing), a patient and her gastroenterologist collaborate to provide a three-step diet to ease nausea and vomiting related to the stomach and gastrointestinal system. Laura A. Dotson and Kenneth L. Koch, M.D. provide easily understandable anatomy and physiology of the stomach to help readers understand why the three-step diet is important to reduce nausea, vomiting and comfort your uncomfortable stomach. This book will serve as a companion in their journey to find the precise diagnosis and treatments for their nausea and vomiting. Throughout the book, the authors provide advice on how to become their best advocate for their own health.

A review of the burden of gastrointestinal diseases in the United States from 2021 showed that nausea and vomiting were the number two and three leading gastrointestinal diagnoses that prompted the patient’s visit to the doctor. There were 3.9 million visits for nausea and 5.4 million visits for vomiting. The causes of nausea and vomiting are numerous and often unknown and long lasting. Most people with nausea and vomiting, especially long-term nausea suffer alone. A social life is unimaginable to them because of their symptoms and embarrassment. Sufferers’ self-image can erode, and hopelessness can ensue.

“This book delivers unique perspectives with empowering information on developing a harmonious doctor/patient relationship, understanding normal function of the gastrointestinal system, choosing recipes based on the intensity of nausea and adjusting your environment to comfort you and your stomach! Each chapter thoughtfully addresses important issues to empower and to provide hope for patients who suffer silently with nausea and vomiting,” the authors point out.

When asked what they want readers to take away from the book, the authors answered, “After reading this book we want the millions of people who suffer with nausea and vomiting to have hope. We believe their hope will come from the knowledge they gained about the stomach and gastrointestinal tract and how to eat to hydrate and nourish themselves. Empowered with the information in this book these patients can become their own best advocate.” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.archwaypublishing.com/en/bookstore/bookdetails/832857-comforting-your-uncomfortable-stomach
