The Radiosurgery Society (RSS), a non-profit medical society dedicated to advancing the science and clinical practice of radiosurgery, today announced that its launching a ‘For Residents, By Residents’ Webinar Series designed to foster the development of leaders in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) amongst radiation oncology, physics, and neurosurgery residents.

The RSS ‘For Residents, By Residents’ Webinar Series consists of five monthly webinars beginning in October 2020 and ending in February 2021. The entire series is being planned, executed, and moderated by residents to best address the unique needs and interests of residents pursuing a career in the fields of radiation oncology, physics and neurosurgery. Featured topics include:

Co-Chairs of RSS Residents Committee are Aviva Berkowitz, M.D. from Montefiore Medical Center and Evan Thomas, M.D., Ph.D., from University of Alabama, Birmingham. The Advising Professor for Neurosurgery is Susan Pannullo, M.D. from New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center; the Advising Professor for Radiation Oncology is Nina Mayr, M.D., from the University of Washington; and the Advising Professor for Medical Physics is Indrin Chetty, Ph.D., from Henry Ford Cancer Institute.

“The RSS Residents Committee is a group of collegial experts focused on the goal of enhancing mentorship and educational experiences of those training in the field of radiosurgery,” said Indrin Chetty, Ph.D., Director of the Radiation Physics Division in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Henry Ford Cancer Institute. “The committee members are actively engaged in a variety of activities, such as webinars, didactic and ‘hands-on’ training, and novel research opportunities facilitated by the RSSearch Patient Registry.”

In addition to the ‘For Residents, By Residents’ Webinar Series, the RSS is pleased to announce its Mentorship and Career Pathways Program, designed to provide mentorship and coaching opportunities to residents pursuing careers as surgeons, radiation oncologists and physicists focused on the practice of radiosurgery. Mentors help these residents navigate the challenges as changes they may face as they evolve in their professional careers.

The Radiosurgery Society invites those who are interested in participating in the RSS Mentorship and Career Pathways Program to complete an application to be matched with a mentor or mentee. Eligible mentees are residents or trainees in the fields of radiation oncology, physics, and neurosurgery. Eligible mentors include all attending physicians and seasoned physicists in those fields. The RSS Mentorship and Career Pathways program is open to both members and non-members of the Radiosurgery Society.
