Tampa’s Harmony Healthcare Responds to COVID-19, Impact on Healthcare Teams

We’ve quickly created remote work as the temporary normal, ensured increased safety of our employees, consultants, and clients, and moved from a paper-driven to a digital environment while improving business continuity planning.

As the leading human capital management organization in non-clinical healthcare, Harmony Healthcare announced today that in response to COVID-19 it is working with its corporate team, its consultants, and its healthcare partners to provide job security, updated remote and on-site solutions, reimbursements, and a host of digital resources. Harmony’s leadership team recognized the extraordinary efforts of the healthcare community at this time, including hundreds of its own consultants in the field throughout the country, and has put strategy into action to provide much needed assistance.

“We have all felt the pain of COVID-19. Many have made sacrifices and continue to do so,” founder and CEO Christian Brown said. “I’m very proud of the city of Tampa, the state of Florida, and our country. We’ve all taken hits from the media, government officials, and the reality of what we have faced and continue to face. But I hope all Americans are proud of how we as a country are reacting and of who we are as a people. I’m very proud of Harmony, our employees, our consultants, and our clients in this most difficult time,” he continued.

Since March 18, the corporate team has worked remotely. Leaders ensured technology and procedures were put in place to serve consultants and healthcare organizations across the country. They also immediately began strategizing how to face challenges as well as the shift in the healthcare staffing industry as a team. Those strategies include:

  • Founder and CEO Christian Brown chose to forgo 100% of his pay instead of furloughing corporate employees.
  • Other leaders at Harmony chose to forgo up to 50% of their pay for the foreseeable future in order to save jobs.
  • Experienced auditing professionals have been trained on updated coding expectations to help healthcare organizations tackle COVID-19 and the growing number of telehealth visits.
  • A trove of content was created that addresses a variety of concerns from the healthcare community such as how to code virtual care, how to leverage data for public health, and how to protect mental health during a pandemic.
  • A reimbursement program was created to help ease the financial burden of consultants in the field who were responsible for providing their own PPE.

“As we as an organization and a nation continue to battle COVID19 and the rapid changes prompted by it, it is critical that we continue to work together,” Senior Director, Administration Cindy Kell said. “We’ll come out stronger and put lessons learned to work to grow our company and our economy.”

The corporate team as well as consultants in the field continue to navigate the ever-evolving circumstances of COVID-19 and provide valuable expertise that both address the new landscape of healthcare and create a smarter health system for all.

“We’ve had consultant staff and corporate staff take financial hits from this, but they are resiliently rising to the moment as we as a team take on the new normal,” Brown said.

“We’ve quickly created remote work as the temporary normal, ensured increased safety of our employees, consultants, and clients, and moved from a paper-driven to a digital environment while improving business continuity planning,” Kell said. “At Harmony Healthcare, we stand as a team, and despite the hardships that we may endure, we will be far more connected than before this battle.”
