Payers and EHR Vendors face the classic make-or-buy decision in order to meet these regulatory requirements.

SPH Analytics, a leader in healthcare quality and experience analytics, today announced that it has launched Population Care FHIRstation™, a turn-key scalable, secure, multi-tenant Software as a Service interoperability platform which empowers effective information exchange between patients, health IT developers, health systems, EHR vendors, and payers.

FHIRstation was developed in conjunction with data exchange experts Iron Bridge in response to the HHS Final Rule and CMS interoperability 21st Century Cures Act and ONC and CMS Interoperability Final Rule 2020. These regulatory guidelines require electronic health record vendors, health plans, hospitals, and providers to make patient data available via a FHIR-based interface by July 1, 2021. FHIR stands for “Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources” (pronounced “fire”) and is a standard created by the Health Level Seven International health-care standards organization to describe and facilitate the exchange of data formats and elements.

“The regulatory environment continues to push key stakeholders to work together for the benefit of patients’ health,” said Kevin Weinstein, President of Population Health at SPH Analytics. “We work with more than 350 health plans today, all of whom must meet these federally mandated requirements. We are thrilled to bring this leading-edge technology to our current and prospective clients, as it lays the groundwork for dozens of applications and workflows that can improve outcomes and reduce costs.”

FHIRstation allows health plans to more easily and quickly share information with key stakeholders, including provider networks, patients, and approved third parties acting on behalf of patients. By leveraging a robust API engine architecture based on FHIR, FHIRstation eliminates the cost, time and expense of individual one-off data interfaces. More technically, FHIRstation is built on FHIR v4 with native FHIR data models and RESTful API, is USCDI v1 compliant, and can store and service full USCDI v1.

“Payers and EHR Vendors face the classic make-or-buy decision in order to meet these regulatory requirements,” said F. Bradley Meyers, CEO and Co-founder of Iron Bridge. “By partnering with SPH Analytics to develop FHIRstation we are able to bring a flexible, instantly available, highly scalable platform to cost-conscious health plans and vendors who might not have the resources to comply with another mandated innovation.”

FHIRstation offers health plans several unique benefits, including:

  • Native FHIR – Data is stored in Native FHIR v4 data models. No need to translate to a proprietary API and data model.
  • Scalable – Built on key-value and document database that delivers single-digit millisecond performance at any scale.
  • Future ready – Built on SMART on FHIR, so it’s ready for patient access applications of the future.
  • Multi-tenant – Allows for full drill down and isolation of customer data to a single EHR, location, pharmacy, practice, hospital, or health plan.
  • Data services – Terminology services available for industry coding systems (Snomed, ICD-10, RxNorm) and custom value sets. Implementation services available to quickly unlock EHR and health plan data or adapters allow for do-it-yourself translation of EHR and health plan data into FHIR data models.

To showcase the FHIRstation interoperability platform and address client questions, SPH Analytics will hold a webinar on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. EDT. To register or learn more visit: – https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/7105339216829774092
