“YMCA of Silicon Valley is excited to offer SCFHP members a welcoming and inclusive space to grow in health, learn about community resources, and empower themselves and those around them to live their fullest lives.”

In a unique move, Santa Clara Family Health Plan (SCFHP) now provides free YMCA health and wellness center access to its 320,000+ members. SCFHP, the local Medi-Cal and Medicare managed care plan serving Santa Clara County, is proud to announce this exciting partnership with YMCA of Silicon Valley. SCFHP Medi-Cal and DualConnect (HMO D-SNP) members can now access YMCA of Silicon Valley locations at no cost. This includes access to YMCA facilities, more than 600 group exercise classes, and wellness coaches.
“We are excited to offer free Y memberships so we can help our members get back to healthy habits now that the immediate threat of COVID-19 has lessened,” said Christine M. Tomcala, CEO of SCFHP. “This partnership will increase the opportunities our members have to improve their overall health, as well as build healthier communities with positive generational impact.”
The partnership between SCFHP and YMCA of Silicon Valley goes back several years and covers many past health initiatives. This latest initiative – more than three years in the making – strengthens the bond between members of both organizations and the organizations themselves.
“YMCA of Silicon Valley is excited to offer SCFHP members a welcoming and inclusive space to grow in health, learn about community resources, and empower themselves and those around them to live their fullest lives,” said Jim Hori, President and CEO of YMCA Silicon Valley.
Equitable and inclusive health and wellness programs have the power to improve overall health and transform lives. Since its founding as the YMCA of San Jose in 1867, the local YMCA has championed this mission. In 2021, more than 135,000 people benefited from using YMCA’s services, with 21,000 members collectively visiting the Y’s facilities 500,000 times.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), increased physical activity – such as the fitness opportunities the YMCA provides – can help manage weight, improve brain health, strengthen bones and muscles, and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Inactivity, meanwhile, can increase the risk of disease. Both the Y and SCFHP believe providing opportunities for physical activity improve both members’ lives and the community as a whole.
The collaboration between SCFHP and YMCA of Silicon Valley exemplifies their shared commitment to providing opportunities for greater health and well-being. Advancing health equity and reducing health disparities in the community can only be achieved by working with trusted partners to address the physical, mental, emotional, and social factors that influence health.
To sign up for this program, SCFHP members can visit any YMCA of Silicon Valley location and show their SCFHP member ID card, or sign up online at https://www.ymcasv.org/santa-clara-family-health-plan. YMCA membership benefits include access to exercise equipment, indoor and outdoor fitness studios, group exercise classes, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, basketball gyms, wellness programs, and wellness coaching. Non-standard services that call for additional fees are not included.
