Omega Rho Chapter Announcement for Schools of Nursing at Unitek

Unitek Learning is the parent company of several distinguished learning institutions: Unitek College, Unitek EMT, Eagle Gate College, and Provo College.

I am very proud to say that the amazing faculty across all of our campuses will be inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, where their achievements, leadership, and commitment can be recognized.

Even before COVID-19, The World Health Organization (WHO) named 2020 the Year of the Nurse and Midwife to recognize the impact nurses have on the world. As a way to celebrate the work of nurses and honor nursing faculty, Unitek Learning was recently awarded the Omega Rho Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

For more than 90 years, Sigma has recognized and celebrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service within nursing and midwifery. The honor society was founded as Sigma Theta Tau in 1922 by six nursing students at Indiana University. From those founding members, Sigma has grown to more than 135,000 active members. They have created over 540 chapters in 100 countries around the world.

The Schools of Nursing at Unitek Learning campuses have demonstrated a commitment to nursing excellence and received approval to become a Sigma Chapter. They will now be known as the Omega Rho Chapter of Sigma. Dr. Celeste Setters and her colleagues at Unitek’s Utah campuses have worked hard to establish this chapter.

“We are excited and filled with pride to welcome this new chapter and its inductees into our diverse and global membership,” said Dr. Sara Horton-Deutsch, Chartering Officer and featured speaker at the ceremony. “They are among a distinguished group of nurses—students and professionals—who have met or exceeded the rigorous standards required to receive an invitation to join Sigma, and they truly deserve our congratulations. The leadership they have displayed represents the essence of this society. Together, we are Sigma.”

Sigma members are leaders at all levels of the healthcare industry. This society only extends membership to students in baccalaureate or graduate-level programs who have demonstrated superior academic achievement, academic integrity, and professional leadership potential. In addition, Sigma extends membership to nurse leader candidates who exhibit exceptional achievements in the field.

“On behalf of the Unitek Learning Administration and Leadership team, it is my distinct honor to congratulate the Omega Rho Chapter for receiving its Coat-of-Arms Plaque,” said Dr. Abdel Yosef, Chief Academic Officer at Unitek Learning. “I am very proud to say that the amazing faculty across all of our campuses will be inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, where their achievements, leadership, and commitment can be recognized.”
