We were truly blessed with a miracle of healing and wanted others to have some of the same tools we took advantage of to make it through

When a person or loved one is diagnosed with a devastating diagnosis such as cancer, the journey ahead is often filled with fear and a sense of hopelessness. Author Mari. D. Martin and her husband Chris faced this difficult journey when he was diagnosed with throat cancer and are sharing their inspiring and candid account to encourage others they are not alone in “Come Home Alive: The Power of Knowing How to Work Together to Make it Through the Crisis of Cancer.”

Determined not to let the cancer diagnosis take control of their lives, Mari and Chris set forth on a six-part plan for him to come home alive. The couple utilized their 24 years of experience as Kolbe Certified consultants to practice what they taught others regarding self-awareness, strengths identification, communication needs, role alignment, and the environment each person needs to thrive. For Chris to thrive again, he needed to be in an environment that allowed him to heal and thrive; and as his loving caregiver, Mari provided that for him while still staying true to herself.

The author shares the steps that allowed her and Chris to get through their crisis, while still in love as ever before so that other couples and families experiencing similar health challenges can learn from their experience and come out stronger in the end. Through her book, Mari also sheds light on the benefits and importance for young people to get the HPV vaccine as many head, neck, and oral cavity cancers, including Chris’ throat cancer, are caused by the HPV virus.

“We were truly blessed with a miracle of healing and wanted others to have some of the same tools we took advantage of to make it through,” said Mari.

“This book follows the story of Chris’s cancer journey, but more than that, it shows the abounding and steadfast love of true soul mates as they go through the battle with the disease. It is uplifting, candid, and filled with the power of the Blessed Trinity in the lives of those who adore Him, lean on Him, and are uplifted in the dark alley ways they are forced to traverse,” a 5-star reviewer wrote about the book.

Ultimately, the book will inspire many to have hope and persevere through the fearful journey of a devastating health diagnosis while also helping readers see how turning to God gave Mari and Chris the strength they needed to keep fighting and encourage readers to do the same.
