MyJane Presents ‘Chicas Unidas’ in Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month

Through Chicas Unidas, we aim to introduce our wellness community to new audiences while normalizing the use of CBD through science-based education and safe access to quality hemp-derived products.

MyJane is bringing together Latinos of influence for an online celebration of women’s empowerment and wellness at Chicas Unidas on Oct. 1, 2020. The virtual event, presented in collaboration with Latina Meetup, features speakers and entertainers who are building businesses, raising families and elevating issues of importance to Latinas, including plant-based wellness.

In addition, MyJane will bookend Chicas Unidas with an introduction to hemp CBD (short for cannabidiol) and an invitation to develop a microbusiness with MyJane.

“Through Chicas Unidas, we aim to introduce our wellness community to new audiences while normalizing the use of CBD through science-based education and safe access to quality hemp-derived products,” said Deborah Castillero, business development executive at MyJane, and a multicultural business leader with deep roots in the Hispanic market.

Lineup Designed to Educate, Inspire and Entertain

The Chicas Unidas event technology platform will give attendees the opportunity to enjoy a full conference experience, right from the comfort of their own homes. On the virtual mainstage, keynote and featured speakers will educate, inspire and entertain; in virtual breakout rooms, trusted experts in wellness, professional development and personal growth will deliver insights for entrepreneurs and those looking to level up their skills.

Live on the Main Stage

American broadcast journalist and author María Elena Salinas will headline Chicas Unidas. Salinas — who has interviewed Latin American heads of state, rebel leaders, dictators and every United States president since Jimmy Carter — will present the English-language keynote address, “Claim Your Seat at the Executive Table: A Latina’s Guide to Navigating Your Way to Success — on Your Own Terms.” The Peabody Award winner will recount lessons learned during her three-decade journey of becoming the “Voice of Hispanic America,” as declared by The New York Times.

Attendees will get personal with award-winning Chilean actress, model and environmentalist Leonor Varela, as she previews her upcoming book, “To Heaven and Back, My Journey with Matteo.” In this candid exchange, the first-time author will talk about the loss of her son, Matteo, and her belief that even death cannot break their bond. Varela will present in Spanish.

Medical cannabis expert Joseph Rosado, M.D. will deliver, “Changing the Dialogue about CBD and Wellness,” a Spanish language primer on CBD and its role in balancing the human endocannabinoid system, which helps regulate physiological and cognitive processes. Hemp-based CBD is non-psychoactive and celebrated for its role in holistic wellness.

With the support of International Sanctuary, Ashley Trevino, founder of Ashley Nadine Bridal Boutique, will lead a social justice discussion about human trafficking and its particular grip on Hispanic and Latin communities in the United States. According to one Polaris Project study, U.S. immigrants originating from Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras are among the most-trafficked laborers. Trevino, speaking in English, will draw from her personal experiences as a human trafficking survivor in Los Angeles County.

The mainstage also will feature a live performance by international salsa dance champion Martha Isabel Córdoba Arévalo.

Giving as a Form of Wellness

Created by women, for women, MyJane champions women’s empowerment. For every product sold, MyJane supports International Sanctuary, a nonprofit providing girls and young women escaping human trafficking with stable incomes, holistic care, and safe, loving workplace where they can heal, learn and grow.

“Human trafficking is a global epidemic, enslaving an estimated 40.3 million adults and children worldwide, with women and girls accounting for about 75% of all victims and survivors,” said Wendy Dailey, CEO, International Sanctuary. “This criminal industry generates $150 billion annually and affects every country in the world, including the United States. Partnerships with organizations like MyJane and its community of ‘women helping women’ provide important awareness and support to ensure that every survivor has hope, dignity, and freedom for the future.”
