“Most patients return to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours. We’re also able to perform our balloon sinuplasty procedure in-office, rather than in a hospital setting, so there is very little downtime, and it’s more affordable for patients,” said Dr. Mark Grosinger.

Montgomery ENT Center, located in Montgomery and Wilmington, Ohio, offers a procedure that’s growing in popularity: balloon sinuplasty, an advanced, minimally invasive sinus procedure for those who want effective, long-lasting relief from sinusitis.
Sinusitis—or inflammation of the sinuses—can happen for a number of reasons, and it can be triggered by allergies or even a cold.
Chronic sinusitis is when symptoms have persisted for an extended period of time with no relief. “Balloon sinuplasty is particularly beneficial to those who have had these chronic, long-lasting sinus problems,” explained Dr. Mark Grosinger.
Dr. Grosinger is board certified ENT physician and surgeon who founded Montgomery ENT Center 34 years ago. “Often, those are patients who have recurrent sinus infections and they’ve found little-to-no relief with medication, or they just continue to have symptoms like headaches or chronic nasal congestion they want resolved,” said Dr. Grosinger.
Dr. Grosinger is one of the most experienced physicians in performing balloon sinuplasty in the Southwest Ohio region.
According to Grosinger, this innovative, endoscopic procedure is seeing a rise in popularity, in part, because unlike traditional sinus surgery, it does not require incisions and cutting or the removal of bone and tissue. And, with balloon sinuplasty, there is minimal bleeding, less pain, less bruising, and the recovery time is quick compared to traditional sinus relief surgery. There is also no need for nasal packing.
As a safe and effective treatment, a balloon catheter is used to enlarge the opening of the sinuses so patients can get effective relief from the symptoms of chronic sinusitis. The normal anatomy and tissue of the sinuses is preserved with balloon sinuplasty, and the entire procedure is done in the office setting, according to Grosinger.
“Most patients return to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours. We’re also able to perform our balloon sinuplasty procedure in-office, rather than in a hospital setting, so there is very little downtime, and it’s more affordable for patients,” said Dr. Grosinger. “This procedure is also appealing to patients because they can avoid the typical stress that can come with a hospital operating room procedure.”
Dr. Grosinger said he is not surprised by the increasing interest in the innovative procedure. “Conventional treatments can sometimes help provide relief, but many people in the Cincinnati and Wilmington region have recurrent sinus symptoms and related allergy symptoms that are taking away from their quality of life. This is an ideal time of year to treat sinuses, so we’re anticipating an uptick in treatments in the coming months,” added Dr. Grosinger.
