Why America Matters confronts the most challenging questions facing our nation today and points the way towards an American renaissance.

While exploring the meaning of American exceptionalism in a postmodern, post-exceptional world, Wilkerson unpacks the cultural phenomena that have defined our generation, all within the historical context and framework of the unique American experiment: the foundational ideas of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Wilkerson’s first book, Stormwall, anticipated looming inflation and identified the crisis in American democracy leading up to the 2020 election. Why America Matters picks up where Stormwall left off, revealing not just the multiple crises facing the nation, but importantly prescribing real solutions relevant for all Americans.

“I wrote this book to remind us of forgotten truths about America’s meaning, and about our country’s role in the world,” said Wilkerson. “I want to breathe hope and life into this great nation’s future, which can only be done by understanding our past—with its successes and failures. Why America Matters confirms that it’s not too late to find a way forward amidst a growing struggle for the soul and future of the only place we Americans have to call home.”

Wilkerson has written for The American Conservative, American Greatness, The American Spectator, Barron’s, The Epoch Times, The Hill, Jackson Hole Economics, and Marketwatch, among others. He was the Chief Executive Officer of Fairfax Africa Holdings Corporation, a leading emerging markets investment firm, and previously served as Managing Director at Lazard, one of the world’s preeminent financial advisory and asset management firms. Wilkerson is chairman of charity: water, a nonprofit organization bringing clean and safe water to people around the world. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MA in International Relations from Yale University, and a BS from Oral Roberts University.
