“Opening a second location allows for continued growth of our emergency and specialty services and enables us to enhance the lives of more pets, their loving families, and the veterinary communities we serve.”

MedVet, a leader in emergency and specialty veterinary healthcare, has opened a brand new veterinary hospital at 331 W. Bearcat Drive. Construction of the 24,000+ square foot state-of-the-art veterinary hospital began more than a year ago and is MedVet’s second location in Utah.

“Salt Lake City and the surrounding area has been an incredibly supportive community and we’re excited to be expanding our presence in this region,” said Dr. Linda Lehmkuhl, Chief Executive Officer of MedVet. “Opening a second location allows for continued growth of our emergency and specialty services and enables us to enhance the lives of more pets, their loving families, and the veterinary communities we serve.”

MedVet hospitals function very much like a human hospital. “We offer state-of-the-art emergency and specialty care to cats and dogs in partnership with referring family veterinarians. The emergency room is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to serve clients and patients as an extension of the family veterinarian’s practice when their family veterinarian is not available,” says Dr. Holly Dougherty, Medical Director of MedVet Northern Utah and MedVet Salt Lake City.

In addition to emergency medicine services, MedVet Salt Lake City offers specialty services in critical care, dentistry and oral surgery, internal medicine, medical oncology, radiology, and surgery. Dermatology services will be available starting in November 2020. The location also offers advanced diagnostics, including multi-slice CT. Novel therapies such as hemodialysis and plasma apheresis will be available later this year.

The new location welcomes veterinarians who are experts in their field bringing years of experience, expertise, and compassion to focus on achieving the best possible patient outcomes. The local team is led by Medical Director Dr. Holly Dougherty and Hospital Director Colleena Maccarelli. The specialty team includes Drs. Jordan Scherk, Jesse Terry, Max Parkanzky, Dainna Stelmach, Kristine Walters and Adam Nylund. The ER team includes Drs. Whitney White, Allie McPhee, Erin Johnston, and Teresa Kaiser. In all, the facility is staffed by more than 70 full time and part time team members with plans to bring on additional doctors and clinical services support team members throughout the rest of 2020 and into 2021.

Pet owners can speak with their general practice veterinarian to obtain a referral for specialty care. Emergency services are available 24/7 for walk-ins; no appointment is necessary. To protect and support the health and wellbeing of our team, clients, and the broader community, we have numerous protocols in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. More information about these practices are available here.
