Courage Day is the launch of MarCIA Courage in Action™ (MarCIA™). MarCIA™ is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation founded by Marcia Weiner Cohen. As a cancer warrior and survivor Marcia lives her life on her terms and credits her belief that “having courage makes a difference in the diagnosis”. MarCIA™ is her way of reaching out to fellow warriors and survivors by providing resources to help them in their own fight.

Think about it. Where do you want to be on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best? If 10 people each connected to 10 different people, how soon do we get to a community of 1 million? In a measure of visual acuity, the sharpness and clarity of one’s sight, is 2020 your goal? This is Courage Day: aiming for the best, reaching out to many, and focusing our efforts at the patient and caregiver level.

MarCIA™ is dedicated to making a difference in three ways. These are the Pillars of our organization. Today is a call to action on Pillar 1: Courage Bags.

Heading into your first treatment is scary, intimidating and one of the most daunting experiences a person can have. While there may be a great team of experts who have done it many times before, it is still the first time for you. The goal of the Courage Bag is to offer some of the things you might find comforting and helpful during that first treatment and beyond. Items you may not have thought to bring with you, or ever knew you needed. Lip balm, hand sanitizer, healthy snacks, cozy socks, or a coloring book might be a few comfort items to ease the treatment hours. The reusable Courage Bag can be your “go bag” for treatment days or simply a reminder that you are not alone. The MarCIA™ team is standing by you.

To support our mission we are actively collecting items for the inaugural Courage Bags which will be distributed to young cancer patients that are staying in the Hackerman –Patz Family Pavilion at Johns Hopkins University Hospital.

If you have items to offer or wish to make a financial contribution, please contact us or donate through the MarCIA™ website: marciacourgeinaction.org.
