Maria Berardo

I am very excited to be part of the Luum team, to take the People and Operations practices to the next level, and to continue attracting and retaining diverse talent to make Luum one of the best places to work in the Seattle area.

Commute Benefits Management Platform Luum today announced that Maria Berardo has joined its executive team as its first Head of People and Operations. The establishment of the position reflects the surge in demand by employers for Luum to set-them up with commute programs that cater to employee safety, flexibility and confidence.

Educated in Argentina, the United States and Canada, and having led HR functions for Microsoft, Amazon, CloudMoyo, Kaiser Permanente of Washington and others, Ms. Berardo brings more than 20 years of HR and business acumen from big company systems experience to fast-growth scale and global expansion.

She also brings a first-hand understanding of how much commute benefits can positively affect an organization’s employee engagement, retention and recruiting efforts as she brought in Luum to improve the commute program at a major Seattle employer where she worked previously.

Ms. Berardo chose Luum because of its combination of positive-impact mission, its stage of growth, and the people she’d gotten to know when she was a customer.

“Increasingly, people want to work for organizations with a conscience and that put that conscience to work by improving the communities in which they live and work,” said Ms. Berardo, the new Head of People and Operations for Luum. “Luum helps organizations put policies and practices into place that not only improve the commute—a key consideration for any employee—but also to advance their CO2-reduction initiatives, improve employee equity, and now during a pandemic, enhance worker safety. I am very excited to be part of the Luum team, to take the People and Operations practices to the next level, and to continue attracting and retaining diverse talent to make Luum one of the best places to work in the Seattle area.”

“Given Luum’s growth plans, hiring Maria Berardo as our first Head of People and Operations is critical because she is being tasked to build the internal systems and infrastructure that will allow us to scale and continue hiring and retaining the kind of top talent that is necessary for the world-class company we’re building,” said Sohier Hall, President, CEO of Luum. “Maria will be responsible for bringing our values to life by creating a workplace that fosters diversity and inclusion.”

Ms. Berardo most recently served as Global Sr. Director of Human Resources and Operations for Redmond, Wash., based CloudMoyo, and before that positions of increasing responsibility in technology, healthcare and financial services companies in the United States and Argentina. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Universidad Buenos Aires, a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Universidad del Salvador and a M.B.A. jointly conferred by Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.
