HealthTrio announced plans today to launch their Interoperability Kit, starting with their Patient Access application programming interface (API) solution, to help health plans comply with the recent CMS Interoperability and patient access final rule. The kit will also include the Provider Directory API and support for Payer-to-Payer Data Exchange.
On March 9, 2020, the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) released final rules addressing Interoperability, Information Blocking, and the ONC Health IT Certification Program, as part of the 21st Century Cures Act. The Interoperability and Patient Access final rule (CMS-9115-F) finalizes new policies that help advance health information and data exchange, ultimately moving the entire healthcare system toward greater interoperability and allowing patients to access their health information through third-party applications of their choice.
CMS, in partnership with ONC, has determined Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Release 4.0.1, a standard created by the health-care standards organization Health Level Seven International (HL7), as the foundational, common standard for storing and sharing patient information. These final rulings will provide patients access to their electronic health information in a single, longitudinal format that is easy to understand, secure, and updated automatically.
Based on its existing API framework and adoption of HL7 FHIR standards, HealthTrio’s Patient Access API solution reduces health plan costs, complexity, and deployment challenges while allowing patients to easily and securely access their claims and encounter information. The solution optimizes HealthTrio’s consent and identity management, data-integration capabilities, and extensive security to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health care information. In addition to exceeding requirements set forth by CMS regulations and HIPAA, this solution supports Blue Button (BB) 2.0 (Carrier Claim) guidelines as well as clinical data based on the United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) standards.
HealthTrio, as the first to market portal solution provider over twenty years ago, has a longstanding history advancing batch and real-time data exchange. HealthTrio has extensive experience with interoperability. They were awarded CAQH Phase IV certification and have a growing single sign-on (SSO) library of over a hundred commonly used organizations and partners.
HealthTrio provides elegant, advanced digital engagement solutions, all purposefully designed to help simplify the intricate healthcare landscape and to support health plans, administrators and integrated delivery networks to decrease costs, increase access, and improve health outcomes. HealthTrio’s Patient Access API solution capitalizes on the digital engagement innovations that HealthTrio has designed and continuously refined throughout the years, enabling health plans to implement a streamlined, secure, and industry-leading product that easily and effectively complies with CMS requirements.
HealthTrio is currently piloting their solution with testing set to begin in the fall of 2020. Both the Patient Access and Provider Directory APIs will be ready for health plans by January 1, 2021, in accordance with deadlines set by CMS. Payer-to-Payer Data Exchange will be ready for health plans by January 1, 2022.
