Great Valley Publishing (GVP) announces that it has been awarded Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education™ (Joint Accreditation) as a provider of interprofessional continuing education (IPCE). Joint Accreditation is awarded by three national institutions at the forefront of IPCE — the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) — and is the gold standard for continuing education for physicians, pharmacists, and nurses, as well as other healthcare professionals including registered dietitians, social workers, physician assistants, psychologists, optometrists, dentists, and athletic trainers.
Recognition as a Jointly Accredited Provider certifies that GVP’s educational activities have been planned by and for the healthcare team. Additionally, the award of Joint Accreditation aligns GVP with some of the most prestigious US medical schools, hospitals, and national medical associations. Joint Accreditation ensures that continuing education for healthcare teams serves the needs of patients and the public, and is designed to be independent, free from commercial bias, based on valid content, relevant, and effective in improving the safety of care delivered by the healthcare team.
According to national continuing education advisor, Steven Passin, President of Steve Passin & Associates, “Great Valley Publishing’s inclusion into the ranks of organizations that are Jointly Accredited places them among those medical educators that have demonstrated the highest levels of educational acumen based on quality and patient safety parameters consistent with identified needs of the healthcare team.”
Mara Honicker, CEO and Publisher of GVP, added, “This acknowledgement of Great Valley Publishing’s performance-in-practice further empowers our core educational mission to provide relevant, timely, and independent continuing education to physicians, registered dietitians, and other members of the care team to improve learners’ abilities to apply new knowledge, and skills/strategy in practice to support improved patient outcomes in the context of team-based care.”
Receipt of Joint Accreditation assures health professionals and the public that continuing education activities provided by GVP meet the high standards of the Criteria for Accreditation and the Standards for Integrity and Independence of Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education, the ACCME, the ACPE and the ANCC. The aforementioned accreditors rigorously evaluate the overall continuing programs of institutions according to standards adopted by all sponsoring organizations and further includes the parent organizations of the ACCME, the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards.
