With 140 children and 175 members participating, the 2019 Christmas for Kids event was the organization’s most successful yet, raising more than $200,000.

One-hundred and forty Denver children attended Christmas for Kids, an event organized by Denver Active 20 – 30 Children’s Foundation. Organization members—local business owners dedicated to philanthropy and service—raised money to provide $100 Target gift cards to each child so they could shop for their families. Typically, none of these children can afford to buy gifts for parents, grandparents, or siblings.

Denver Active 20 -30 members accompanied children on the early morning shopping spree which took place from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m., before store doors opened. Members are professionals between 20 and 39, including Dr. Jeffrey Schmidt of Schmidt Facial Plastic Surgery.

The Christmas for Kids’ approach of providing gift cards helps children not only experience the joy of giving but learn important life skills. They must prioritize others, create a shopping list and plan purchases to make the most of their $100. With gifts purchased, the children and Denver Active 20 – 30 members went to the parking lot where Santa arrived by bright yellow helicopter and distributed gifts to the children.

Christmas for Kids is funded by members who pledge to donate and find others to sponsor them. For the past seven years, Dr. Schmidt has taken the lead in fundraising for this event. He donates a portion of his practice’s proceeds annually to the worthy cause yearly.

“Christmas for Kids is the best event of the year,” explains Cam Richards, Denver Active 20-30 president. “The pride and joy that these underserved children experience as they shop for their family members keep us focused on the great need that exists and the purpose of our work.”
