We’re excited to expand our programming to meet the needs of active adults and to make our pickleball courts available to everyone at no cost thanks to Break the Love and Walmart.

Tennis and pickleball players 55+ can now reserve pickleball courts and take advantage of tennis clinics offered by David Ensignia Tennis Academy and its affiliate, the DETA Pickleball Club, at no cost during certain weekday hours from June through September.

And to ensure no one feels left out, David Ensignia Tennis Academy and DETA Pickleball Club have teamed up with Walmart to provide free access to tennis and pickleball courts during certain hours every day of the week. Via Break the Love, an organization that makes racquet sports accessible (whether through courts, classes or clinics), players can reserve courts at Break the Love at no cost by simply showing a Walmart receipt.

“There’s no better time than now to start playing tennis or pickleball,” said Jacit Gonzalez, business development manager for David Ensignia Tennis Academy and DETA Pickleball Club. “For active adults over 55, we’ve devised special open play times and clinics so they don’t have to fight for court time.”

David Ensignia Tennis Academy operates tennis courts at the Miccosukee Golf & Country Club in Kendall (eight courts), Continental Park in Kendall (eight courts), Coral Pine Park in Pinecrest (five courts) and Archimedean Academy (five courts). The tennis academy offers private and group lessons with Professional Tennis Registry-certified coaches. It also hosts local, regional and international tournaments and family events. Courts cost up to $10 to reserve depending on the location and time of day.

Pickleball, the nation’s fastest-growing sport, is booming in Miami-Dade County. But the limited number of courts, combined with confusing schedules at public parks, keep many from picking up a paddle. Dedicated players hop from park to park in search of a match. Busy open-play sessions often mean spending more time on the bench than in the game.

At DETA Pickleball Club at Miccosukee Golf & Country Club, the public has access to 16 dedicated pickleball courts, the most at any one location in Miami-Dade County. It’s also one of only three locations in the tri-county area with 16 or more courts. The club, which doesn’t require a membership or registration fee, offers round robins, ladders, tournaments and clinics. DETA also offers a DUPR rating program for pickleball players. Courts cost up to $10 to reserve.

“We offer a lot of options for players at different skill levels, including great events where they can play for fun, to improve their rating or compete for prizes,” said Stephane Jolicoeur, lead pro and director of DETA Pickleball Club. “We’re excited to expand our programming to meet the needs of active adults and to make our pickleball courts available to everyone at no cost thanks to Break the Love and Walmart.”
