Having access to secure information is key to providing high-quality healthcare, yet too many hospitals rely on network redundancies or other strategies that ultimately don’t protect their information.

Interbit Data, a leading technology company providing care teams with on-demand access to crucial patient data, will host a webinar on cybersecurity Thursday, Oct. 29 in the wake of two major ransomware attacks against hospitals and other health facilities in the U.S. and Europe.
The webinar will spotlight best practices in healthcare IT security and outline what happened during the two recent cyberattacks — one at Universal Health Services, a large health system with locations across the U.S. and the U.K., the other at a hospital in Germany that led to the death of a patient. It will cover what problems arose and what measures could have been taken, and it will discuss NetSafe CyberCrisis Vault, a first-response tool that allows access to critical patient information during a cyberattack, even when there is no access to healthcare information systems or networks.
“Recent cyberattacks against UHS and the hospital in Düsseldorf highlight the glaring vulnerability of hospitals to these increasingly sophisticated and damaging cyberattacks,” said Arthur Young, President and CEO of Interbit Data. “Having access to secure information is key to providing high-quality healthcare, yet too many hospitals rely on network redundancies or other strategies that ultimately don’t protect their information. Our mission is to make healthcare data accessible anytime and anywhere, during planned or unplanned outages.”
The ransomware attack at the 400 hospitals and other facilities operated by Universal Health Services is considered one of the largest medical cyberattacks in U.S. history and has shone a light on the critical importance of having a way to access critical patient information during downtimes. The attack prompted the health system to take its entire U.S. network offline and reportedly forced some medical staff to work with pen and paper and to redirect patients to other hospitals.
Interbit Data’s NetSafe solution offers business continuity during system downtimes. There are two modules: Point of Care, which covers everything from planned downtimes for maintenance to a natural disaster; and CyberCrisis Vault, which provides access to critical patient forms and information on a protected and isolated server.
Hospital and health system leaders, healthcare IT vendors, industry consultants and analysts, and members of the news media are invited to attend the webinar.
