Every three minutes, a family hears the words, ‘your child has cancer.’ Each year in the United States, there are an estimated 15,780 children under the age of 20 who are diagnosed with cancer; that is approximately 1 in 285 children or every 2 minutes 300,000+ families around the world. “The Promise: A Docuseries on Childhood Cancer” provides a raw look at what the childhood cancer community really looks like. Originating from the promise first-time Executive Producer Donna Speckhard made to her friend’s dying son, “The Promise: A Docuseries on Childhood Cancer” takes a look at multiple angles of the story – those of doctors, researchers, children, parents, grandparents, siblings, and advocates. Led by experts and families with firsthand experience, the docuseries touches upon the topics of childhood cancer treatment, relapse and remission, childhood cancer research, legislation and awareness.

At the helm of the docuseries is childhood cancer advocate and award-winning filmmaker Kristi Gatto. “I wanted to direct a project that was more than just a film. I wanted to create something that would have a lasting impact on people. I had been in the childhood cancer world as an advocate for several years prior to “The Promise” and had seen the upsetting issues that the community was facing so when Donna came to me with the idea, I knew it was something that needed to be done.”
