The myriad mental and physical health benefits of getting in shape, especially over the age of 40, are too important to ignore

Celebrity personal trainer Scott Yonehiro, Founder of SY Performance in Los Angeles is documenting his journey back to optimal fitness after intentionally gaining 50 lbs. for his new web series, “The 180° In 90.” The series is streaming on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/c/scottyonehiro
The daily YouTube series was created by Yonehiro, who specializes in helping film and television stars get into excellent physical shape for their roles. However, “The 180° In 90” was designed with a different audience in mind.
Yonehiro, who is in his late 40’s, said that he was inspired to create the series, which follows him as he attempts to lose 50 pounds over 90 days, by men his age, who are struggling to get back into shape as they get older. “It seemed as if all advertisements for men my age were promoting medicine for hair loss, supposed miracle weight loss supplements, or treatments for erectile dysfunction. All of these products are designed to temporarily make men feel better about aging,” he said.
“In order to truly feel better as we get older, we need to be physically fit. We need the regular blast of endorphins that exercising provides, we need the increased mental acuity that exercise affords, we need the cardiovascular benefits to prevent heart disease, and we need to take action to prevent bone loss. The myriad mental and physical health benefits of getting in shape, especially over the age of 40, are too important to ignore,” Yonehiro added.
Yonehiro is candid with his audience, experiencing temporary weight gains on camera, and admitting that getting into shape at age 48, is far more challenging than it was in his 20’s. “I’m sore. I took 9 months off from exercising, and I ate whatever I wanted to gain this weight. Now I’m trying to get it off, and it’s challenging. I understand why men and women in their 40’s are reluctant to go back to the gym,” he said.
“The reality is, those of us over 40 who are heading back to the gym aren’t going to feel like we did after a workout in our 20’s. It’s tough. But we can choose to feel aches and pains because we’re working out and doing something wonderful for ourselves, or we can feel sore and achy as the result of our bodies breaking down with age. It is our choice,” Yonehiro explained.
“The 180° In 90” chronicles Yonehiro’s weight loss, fat loss, and muscle gain, in real time. Yonehiro also shares exactly what he eats every day, and details all supplements he takes, on his journey to get back into shape. The series, which debuted on October 4, 2019 quickly attracted a loyal following, in part because Yonehiro provides frequent health tips, brings viewers into his kitchen as he preps food, and to the supermarket as he shops for meals.
Thirty days into his 90-day journey, Yonehiro has lost 15 lbs., and reduced his body fat from 24.1% to 19.9%.
“I’m hoping that following my journey shows other men and women my age, that it never is too late to get back into shape. I’m not suggesting that viewers need to lose the same amount, in the same timeline. I just want everyone to know that it can be done. You can completely transform your body, and your overall health relatively quickly even in middle age.”
